ssrMight be a good machine. But, it comes with a wired-in 2 round pin plug. So, unable to assess the machine or make coffee at present. Extremely frustrating.
Mr A. B. HarrisI can't say how the product was as it didn't have a UK plug which I didn't notice until I unpacked it. Very frustrating!
John W.Thin, mean coffee with little crema, no matter what setting. Tried 2 different types of coffee bean but still poor coffee.
Kindle CustomerSix months, and it's packed up. Won't make coffee, won't heat milk or water. Now a very expensive ornament. Last one lasted 2 years before it died - whatever happened to durability? Won't be buying another de Longhi.
Dr Robin WhiteWe purchased this not more than 4 month ago, and the steam nozzle already started to leak, making funny noises and not working properly. Can someone get it touch plz as we can't use a machine like this.
Mrs Claudia YeungThis machine showed plenty of promise when first bought but was making muddy water within two months. De'longhi Customer Service failed to respond to my emails and Amazon were unable to replace and even managed to give instructions for the return of the machine which were impossible to implement.
Anthony HowarthI was given this as a late xmas present in Jan 2014 (Yes, less than a month old). Within a week of lots of Latte making and constant cleaning if parts after each and every use (as it says to do in the manual), the milk frother has stopped frothing and the smaller nozzle will not stay on. So having had to "doctor" the nozzle to stay on, it still did not rectify the frothing situation. It was definitely cleaned thoroughly as recommended as I didnt want to ruin what I class as a very expensive coffee machine. Very disappointed thay this has failed within a weeks usage!! Trying to find a jug to fit under the frother is a nightmare. As its minimal distance between frother head and base, not a lot of clearance to fit in a standard frothing jug, and as the milk can triple in quantity during frothing, you have to get a fairly decent sized jug. Poor design and build quality.Having said that, when the frother does work, this machine is perfect! Once you have fiddled around with all the settings for the grinder and the strength, it still makes great, fresh from bean espressos and coffees.I wouldve given more stars if the machine was not broken within a week, especially at this price, as you would NEVER expect a machine of such calibur and price, to fail in such a short period of time. I will be putting in a call to Delonghi today so hopefully I will have a resolution, in which case I shall update my review.
Kelly T.Against better advice to avoid a bean to cup, the excellent reviews this machine receives persuaded me to try it out. I put about 4kg of high quality beans through this machine over a 6 week period and finally came to the conclusion that whilst it is a well designed machine, it is not capable of producing espresso anything better than mediocre. With a little modification this machine can produce high quality microfoam which was very impressive but ultimately a coffee machine must be judged on the quality of coffee it can produce. I would say a lack of grind control and weak pressure are the culprits, although this would be prevalent in bean to cups in general. In conclusion, I can make a far superior coffee using a decent grinder and a ten pound french press or Aeropress.
superdudeo***Update after 2 years of usage***Last month the machine started to have a grinder problem. Basically the grinder was not able to grind anymore. Considering the type of work it does I was not 100% surprised as there is no way you can actually clean it but still, it made the machine unusable. As I am quite good with DIY I opened the machine, remove the grinder part and tried to clean it. Unfortunately it didn't work. I looked at De Longhi parts and the grinder is the only part they sell in one piece only. So I ordered a new grinder for about £55 and replaced the part. Now it is working perfectly but it is a bit of a concern that I had to replace this part after only two years. The majority of the people would have thrown the machine in the bin of gone through a repair service and spending at least £100 if not more. Not happy about the design quality.***Update after about 3 months of usage***Warming the cups and the whole system is REALLY important to achieve a very good, almost perfect, coffee. My technique is:1)Turn the machine on: it will automatically take some hot water out to clean the circuits and warm them up2)Fill the cup completely with hot water3)Empty the cup and re fill it with hot water again: at this point cup is really hot4)Press again the button to activate the "cleaning" which does the same of step 15)Empty the water from the cup and make your own espresso6)Cup is very hot as well the coffee and coffee is really good (assuming you have some good beans)Note 1: Is INCREDIBLY important to tune the grinding level. It should take 25 seconds for 25cl of coffee when doing 2 espressos at a time (half if doing only one since it uses two holes). Grinding level should be adjusted every day since it changes with the humidity of the air (My set up is usually around 2,5).Note 2: when doing two cups it's true that the quantity is not completely symmetric between the two holes but result is still acceptableNote 3: I'm currently using Lavazza beans and they are really good (no bitterness at all). Probably coffee r
