I bought this to replace an identical machine which had worn out through prolonged use. Unfortunatly the replacement was faulty from the beginning and leaked water all over the counter when switched on.
DRubbish. In what world is it acceptable for a coffee machine to deliver a thimble full of coffee by default? After spending quite a while waking up from standby!Yes, if you hang around near it, you can push the button again and make it deliver more. Then it may remember that measure as the default for a while, until it next goes into standby. Then ...Maybe this behaviour is acceptable to Italians, but surely not to human beings
Jim MWriting this in the hope it may help others make an informed purchaseThis machine is great, and makes lovely coffee, especially cappuccinos, which is specifically why I got it - the automatic milk frothing. When it is working, I have no issues or complaints.Unfortunately, if you are a regular coffee drinker and are likely to use this a few times each day, then don't expect it to last. I received this product as a warranty replacement after purchasing a EC850M from Amazon. That machine lasted 15 months before the milk would no longer froth. The machine was sent for repair, the repair failed, a few months later, Delonghi sent me a replacement machine, a EC860M.That machine lasted 21 months, and again, now the milk no longer froths. So, two very similar machines, and neither managed 2 years of daily operation.I used mine maybe 3 or 4 times a day, so if you do this, it will probably fail within the warranty period, so you should manage to get it repaired or replaced - after some hassle and delay. If you use it less often, you may be more unlucky and it might last a bit longer and fail just outside the warranty period. Therefore, I may just be very unlucky, but it might be prudent to assume that this is a possibility when making your purchase.UPDATEAs a last resort before I get rid of the machine, I figured I would try descaling it, as the light just came on on the final attempt to get the thing to work! And to my surprise, during the process, I noticed some chunks come out of the water spout during the process...and unbelievably, the machine has sprung back to life. Automatic milk frothing now works again, and it sounds surprisingly healthy, so I'm now wondering if I should descale it more often than when the light appears...might be worth a shot to anyone who is about to sling their machine out...
Tim B.Came and didnt work out the box. Bought on Black Friday so they wouldn't offer a replacement, had to contact Delonghi which is a pain in the ass, bought as a present for Christmas, its now February 15th and I still have never had a cup of coffee made from this thing
Jay18 months and totally broken again!!!! This is the second one we have had as we love the coffee it makes and the way the milk is froathed but it is NOT built to last and we have tried desperately to look after them! The pump inside just seems to stop working so you can't even then get the cleaning process to finish! Very disappointed :(
mummyLeighAlthough machine looks fine, it doesn't make good coffee. I was trying all instructions from the manual and used the best brand of coffee, anyway the final result was bad. I have return the mashine
Peter IvanovReceived a faulty product, impossible to return.... No help from the sales company. It was completely unusable, leaking water from its bottom and not making any steam or coffee.
MilaThis machine has been a terrible purchase. The first machine worked for only 2 months, it then took DeLonghi two months to repair it and it was returned completely broken. The replacement machine did not froth milk from the outset and then after one month it also stopped working. DeLonghi will only repair not offer a refund if they cannot repair then they replace and now they cannot even do that as it is out of their stock. In the seven months since we bought the machine we have only had an functioning machine for 3 months. I would discourage anyone from choosing this or any other DeLonghi machine due to their quality and service.
J. A. HunterThe machine is excellent if it works.Alas the steam part of the machine has consistent problems.I got the first in December and it worked until July and then all the lights flashed and the steamer stopped working which the manual says to stop use immediately and take to a authorised service centre.Amazon being generally good just replaced the machine with a new one straight away.New machine same problem broken by October so even quicker than last one. This time Amazon gave me a refund straight away and I used it to by a sage duo instead. When it worked the machine was versatile and excellent, produced good espresso and has the option of automatic latte and cappuccino or using manual frothing of milk of you fancy more control. The temperature can be changed to three different settings which helps dial in your extraction and delivered consistent good coffee. This is really frustrating as I really like this machine and it put me off getting another delonghi as I don't trust their quality now as two machines with the same fault is clearly a quality design issue. On the plus side Amazon have been great so replacements and refunds have been good.
H-Bomb1980Can you be unlucky twice?..Ordered the first machine at the end of May after my beloved Breville, now available as the upgraded Sage in the UK, started to show signs of slowing down. Well after nearly fifteen years would say I had made a good investment. If only I could say the same for this make and model, first impressions on taking it out of the box was a thing of quality being genuine stainless steel was nice and robust as were the portafilter and baskets, everything suggested it had been built to last and for the price compared to the last purchase was really impressed. If only it performed as well as it looked or performed at all, as the first machine had to be sent back as failed to do a sequence as stated in the manual which meant the boiler was not working. Alas Amazon being Amazon immediately sent out a replacement so kudos to them for having such exceptional customer service and for making it so painless to return as when the replacement did exactly the same thing yesterday having failed to heat after only 5 weeks of serving great coffee I would probably have been bouncing up and down. However given their policy to replace under the guarantee if purchased from Amazon it is not the end of the world. I have now decided to up the anti and invest in something of quality, built to last. It is false economy if a machine is only built to have a short life span. I do not believe reading other De'Longhi reviews that they are designed to last longer than two years if that lucky, which is a real shame as the coffee and performance for as long as it worked was actually exceptional. The moral - I will always buy off Amazon but I will not be buying De'Longhi not now or in the future. NOT EVER!!!
LDI tried two of this model, but had to send both back. I still don't know whether both were faulty as claimed by the Customer Service phone line, or I had done something wrong in assembling them, but neither would heat up (or even go through the automated self-check) when switched on.The Customer Service phone line - shared by Kenwood and Braun - is dire. If you're not there, ringing in, when it opens at 08:30, be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes to talk to somebody. And then the "helpers" are best at demonstrating their ignorance of the model you've just bought. After my two tries, I settled for a Gaggia Classic.
Alan M. DunsmuirI still have not managed to make a good cappuccino with it, either the automatic or the manual one. The machine gets blocked very frenquently with coffee. I have used many machines before and I thought that would be an amazing one, but it is not. I am quite disappointed with it. I do not recommend it to anyone.
