I wish I had read other customer reviews properly regarding this product. I see that other people have had the same issue. Whilst the kettle is smart, after about five months the lid stops opening. The spout on the kettle is far too small to fill through the spout and I have to get a knife now to open the lid. I contacted the seller for a refund/return They said initially they would sort this out for me and then came back to me to say they wouldn’t! I now need to contact the manufacturer directly to get this sorted. Read all the one star reviews and avoid this product
PammyWVery very poor quality not worth £70 . The filter falls out every time you fill water it didn’t work at first kept cutting out. The glass has marked first use and it’s really loud. Picture is after one use. I had to give it one start to continue but it’s nit worth that
Bexley BuyerBought this in April 2017 and it has been fine up until July 2018 when it would not start first thing one morning. Unfortunately the warranty is only for a year so I will have to just smile and move on.In terms of the (disappointingly short) ownership experience, it has been faultless. No problems with the lid that other reviewers have experienced - although I tended to hold the lid down while releasing the catch to avoid wear on the mechanism - and the kettle has always boiled quickly without being particularly noisy. The glass body has remained reasonably stain free as we have a water softener. That said, it scaled up when our softener was out of commission for three weeks and there are some external scale marks from water running down from the spot to where the glass meets the metal of the base. This is an area which is difficult - if not impossible - to access for cleaning/descaling.Overall it is a good product which would have scored higher if it had lasted longer, say for two years or more.
Jeremy RitchieI expected a brand new Breville Glass Kettle but I instead received a second hand one which had been used to the point where limescale had built up and the base and Kettle itself was terribly scratched too. Very disappointing as this item was not as described and therefore very misleading. You will only end up wasting money on postage to return this kettle if you order one.
PhoebeWe think the kettle looks pretty good but we have had problems with the plastic rim that secures the lid and filter. Contacted Breville but their customer service is useless and they haven't responded despite being chased. The kettle was bought on a Prime deal but Amazon has offered to only refund not replace the faulty kettle, meaning that we'll have to stump up £25 to replace this for the same model!!!!
Mirage69It boils alright but it takes a while to switch off. The spout is too small and the kettle is heavy and clunky. Thinking of sending it back. Also it would be better if it was smaller. I do like the blue lights though.
Ms Brenda JetBeautiful kettle I was very happy with it until it simply stopped working after a year and 1 month of light usage.
Anna K.Looks fabulous but it's leaking! Arrived on time, nice design, but after 2weeks using started leaking... it is very disappointed.
Amazon CustomerNot good at all... boil function wouldn't switch off despite the water bubbling away..had to switch it off manually otherwise it would have kept going.Internals became discoloured and stained within a couple of daysWater tasted 'plastic-y' too
NickIt was noisier than expected, but the main problem was, it was faulty - blue light went off when hot and took at least 20-30 mins to work again every time. Liked it but was disappointed and sent it back.
anewBeautiful looking but totally useless. Just returned the second - both had lid problems, and I didn't even get to use them. Breville should be ashamed of selling such poorly constructed products. I would probably be willing to pay a little more for better quality, although this is actually already quite expensive. To use the old quote, Breville have "spoiled the ship for a hap'worth of tar". It's time they revised their quality control.
Gillian H.This kettle is not fit for purpose. The first one we ordered was sent back because, after only a few days, the lid would not open. This kettle took 2 weeks to become useless. To open the lid you had to press the button and insert your fingernail under the back of the lid to open it!!Also the clear outside gets extremely hot and I burned myself many times! If someone would like to contact me I will send it back (it is sitting here in a box) as I had already deleted my emails with order numbers on etc.
Mrs GThis is the second kettle we,'ve had not the best
MyrtleSince the lid opens while boiling, it never stops boling if you are not around. We changed 3 times and same problem happened..very dangerous, can cause a fire if unattended. Otherwise we liked the glass jug. Definitely avoid. Design problem.
Mr A.Really really really, do not buy this kettle. The other reviewers are absolutely right about the lid and its release mechanism, I know because I returned the first and the second did exactly the same. Because I have had it for 15 months Breville are refusing to even give me a new button so that I can repair it myself, they just fobbed me off with a standard refusal and did the same again when I complained about their total indifference to their customers. Buy it in haste repent at leisure.
michael david gormleyBroke after about a year. And the filter doesn't touch the glass so it's entirely pointless. You would think for this much money they could get it a little better.
Adzza24Collects the hard water and is not easy to clean.
JOSEPHINE BROOKEROh no, just received this and the switch doesn't stay down. Am very disappointed. :(Am going to return it immediately - NOT asking for a replacement.Waste of time.
MMGrayLess than 3 months in. Lid stuck. REALLY annoying. Needs cleaning almost once a week to look clean. Boils for far too long pouring steam everywhere. This shouldn't really be sold. Such a shame as it's a nice looking thing.
TLid keeps flirting up and won't stop boiling.
