Not practical at all.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this kettle for the design and yes it does look good but it is NOT a practical kettle. You need to remove the bird sprout with oven gloves in order to use it. It's such not practical. At that price I would have expected good design and ease to use. Annoyingly I bought it directly from Alessi and can't return it.

Broken whistle stopper

Love the kettle however the whistle stopper doesn't work properly which is a little disappointing, especially with the amount of money spent on this particular model.

Great design but there seems to be some quality control ...

Great design but there seems to be some quality control issue. I have to return and exchange the kettle because of water leakage around the sprout. The replacement unit arrived quite timely and work well except one of the two lights at the base is not working... This does not affect the performance and I decided not to exchange it again to avoid incurring additional shipping charge

Rubbish

Unfortunately I have to agree with the others. It looks nice but they clearly didn't spend much on the bits you can't see. Ours lasted just over two years before breaking - relatively reliable!

beautiful but it won't last
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I love the look of this kettle but, as others have said, found that it broke down very quickly (less than 2 years of not-very-frequent use), even though de-scaling was done regularly, and it is then effectively a 'write-off' as the element cannot be replaced. It's sad, but I would not recommend this product even though I am a big fan of Alessi.Alessi electric kettle blue

It looks good, but ......
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I love the look of this kettle, but functionally, it's less attractiveIf you have the whistling bird in the spout, you have to use oven gloves to remove it before pouring the water out, or else the steam scalds you, and with it being spring clipped into the spout, it fits snugly, so takes some effort to removeAlso, you can't pour the water whilst it's still bubbling in the kettle, or it splashes everywhereOther than that, it's great ......

I have been through three of these kettles within 18 months they look lovely, but it was hopeless, with all three the on of switch broke within a few months. I gave up and bought a £20 white plastic kettle with high recommendations from customers on amazon it works beautifully! Don't waste your money on this alessi kettle.

Great looks, very poor reliability
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I absolutely love the look of this kettle and it has a solid 'quality' feel to it. However, I have just taken delivery of my 4th kettle - 3 replacements all due to electrical faults - shorting, switch giving up and element breaking. I live in a soft water area so scal not an issue, and our household is of 2 people who look after things so it is definitely not abused. In comparison my old plastic kettle is still going strong after 15 years. The latest replacement is going on eBay as I know it will last about 6-12 months before developing a fault.

Alessi Kettle 9093 with bird-shaped whistle, design Made in Italy

This celebrated kettle with the bird that sings when the water has boiled was a great success when it was introduced in 1985, and for Alessi it represented a meeting of great design and mass production methods, a combination that Michael Graves worked hard to achieve, applying his personal visual code which fused influences from Art Deco to Pop Art and even the language of cartoons.

Alessigraphy: the geography of Alessi production

Since the Company's foundation in 1921 the majority of Alessi products have been manufactured through the cold working of metals, a tradition that is kept alive today by the skilled workers at the Crusinallo plant in Omegna.

Over time, Alessi also began to work with many other materials, such as porcelain, glass, wood, and plastic... A specific production method was developed for each one. Even when production takes place outside the Crusinallo plant, Alessi’s guidelines grant the company’s original production quality standards, continuing to reconcile industrial technological complexity with an artisanal eye for detail.

The objects produced from the different materials are manufactured in various production plants across the world. They remain original Alessi objects in that they are conceived with the same design excellence and produced with the same attention to quality that sets the company’s products apart.
