Lighter weight when full. Easy pour. Easy grip. Quick boil. 1 cup boil.I like that lid is removable to fill so wide neck when filling therefore less splashing. Only thing that could improve this kettle would be an on light but the almost immediate noise of it starting to heat alerts it’s on. A very good value simple kettle at around £20 that beats many more expensive ones. Recommend it.
heimatau2008does exactly what a kettle should do
ho.le37l.1t3uwlPros: Looks good. Boils quickly. 360 degree base makes it easy to put back in place. Can be left switched on with the mains off (so with a smart socket, 'Alexa, put the kettle on' works as long as you remember to leave it correctly set up.) Full 3kW so boils quickly. No issues with water taste (as others have reported.) 1, 2 and 3 mug fill levels well marked inside, if you can be bothered to use them.Cons: No external water level indicator: you need to remove the lid to see how full it is. Metal construction with no insulation, so it drops back to room temperature much more quickly than a plastic or insulated one, using more energy and time to reboil. Power cord is ridiculously short.
Nicole ThornberLet's start with the spout, it's the size of mouse's ear. It takes too long to fill through the spout so you have to open the lid. The lid seems to have been designed to be opened only occasionally (for cleaning) so this is not made easy and is not clear how to open or close it (how far to twist it?) The lid design is such that you have to twist it an unknown amount but its handle is so small to grab that it quite often flies off. Also, when you replace the lid you don't know how to twist it to make sure its closed properly. It's a risk because if you pour a full kettle when the lid is not on then it will spill out and burn you. Also:The kettle has no light so you don't know if it's on.The kettle has not gauge on the outside so you have no way of knowing how full it is (unless you use the lid) or if you've overfilled it.The worst part is that it sometimes leaks whilst pouring because of the lidOverall a really terrible design. I only started using it 6 weeks after purchase so I'm probably stuck with - another waste of the Earth's resources.

A basic kettle that's relatively quiet and quick to boil. It has a good pouring spout and a separate lid, which allows a full inspection of its underside to be carried out (plastic tops tend to disintegrate after some time, depositing nasty pieces of plastic in one's brew). The boiled water did suffer from a horrible plastic taste for a while (nowhere near as much as a plastic-bodied kettle), but removing the useless/pointless red plastic water level guide put a stop to that. In all, a great kettle that is reliable, good value for money and one that I would certainly buy again
DirksterIts not quiet and that is the only reason i got it.
goodlight-2007Really like this kettle, and it is a second purchase of this model. First kettle became very hit or miss whether to boil or not and took a long time to start. Replaced it with same model and afterwards opened base of old kettle, having satisfied myself that the old kettle worked perfectly in new base. What I found was pretty frightening. Totally surprised not to have had a FIRE. The 3KW carrying cable (live wire) had burnt quite far out from the attachment point (centre pick up). In one way, an OK method of connecting wires; there is insulation BUT the wires cross and I imagine get quite hot from a 3KW load.I contacted Russel Hobbs via their web site (as I had already bought a second, same model kettle and now intended to open new base to check).Had an E- acknowledgement from R-H saying they would be in touch, which unfortunately they have not botherd to do. Also informed them I had photographs of the burnt wires (old base, frighteningly, will still work, hit and miss). Thought it might be worth warning about this problem as R-H obviously have no concern whatever.

I expect more from a major brand name like Russell Hobbs. Sadly, those expectations seem to have been unreasonable. The issues are:Kettle does not rest securely in its stand. It ‘wobbles’ as the kettle boils. It doesn’t seem like it would fall over on its own but a slight knock might tip it over. It’s not very reassuring. The lid does not have a hinge it has a sprung laden latch that clicks into place below the lip of the kettle. Burnt myself slightly after the first boiling (you usually have to run a new kettle a few times before using it) as the latch made the lid pop off & hot water droplets scalded me.No water gauge on the outside of the kettle. Surely this is a standard feature these days? Like car stereos. There is a line on the inside of the kettle marked 1.7 litres. Hopefully everyone using this kettle will think to wear their glasses first thing in the morning to be able to see this.Noisy. Not the loudest kettle I’ve ever had but difficult to hear anyone talking over the noise it makes.

Only just acquired so not tested by time yet. What I like about it are:1) Rapid boil time - people say it's noisy but no noisier than any other kettle i've had. In fact I like noisy as it tells you it's working and you can hear when it's ready.2) Excellent design - not too bulky and obtrusive on worktop. Handle very comfortable. Lid fits well. I like that you can remove the whole lid - easy for cleaning and I've found in the past that those with button sprung lids eventually don't shut off as the lids tend to lose their fit eventually.3) A good pourer. My last Alcok one was a nightmare - spewed water all round the mug on the worktop.4) I'm not boiling up plastic and poisoning myself. Inside there was a red plastic water level indicator - totally unnecessary - I have eyes - but it is removable with a bit of technique ie Wiggle it as you pull upwards and sideways.. The only other plastic is under the lid and at the top of the 'pole' the indicator was attached to, and the removable filter.5) It sits firmly on its base - someone complained it wobbled - suspect her cord wasn't in the groove.6) Cord unwinds to a decent length. Adjustable. Not sure about:1) The remaining bits of plastic but the water doesn't really come in contact with them2) The smell initially - I think it's more or less gone now but I haven't yet tried it yet by drinking plain boiled water. I had aMorrisons kettle before, that never lost that horrible smell and contaminated taste. I question why some kettles smell awful when you first boil them and some don't - is it the brushed steel vs the unbrushed? All in all it seems good value for the money. Recommend so far.
shemet_722This is the third of these that I've bought. The last two lasted 2 years each, give or take a month, before failing in the kettle switch or base area (not the separate base that powers it.) On taking it apart I can see a bit of water and corrosion in that area. It gets a great deal of use in our 4 person household, probably being used about 25 times a day at least for tea, coffee, and water for veg boiling etc.For the money though I feel it is good value, costing £8 per year as they are currently £16. Being steel there is a minimal amount of plastic in contact with the water, just a small indicator inside, plus it does not have the plastic level window that always seemed to leak on other kettles. Also it pours very well from the steel spout, as opposed to plastic kettles that tend to dribble after a while. It's quick to boil, especially just for one mug's worth of water. This is our third, as mentioned, being the best kettle under £25 that we've tried. One small design fault - the lid needs to be put on with the 'grab' part aligned to the spout/handle, if this part is placed across the kettle the lid does not quite sit fully down, leading to it taking longer to sense that it is boiling before it switches off. If this was corrected in the one I've just ordered or in the future I'd give it 5 stars.

Kettle is well made and nice and simple to use. Quite like the fact that the lid lifts off rather than flips up with button. It quickly boils a single cup. However I had to return it because of the way it made the water taste. Even after following the initial use instructions to remove any manufacturing residue and after a full weeks use the water still tasted tainted - a chemical residue was clearly still leaching into the water. This could be reduced by always fully emptying the kettle and adding fresh water every time but even if a small amount was left in from the last use I found myself pouring tea and coffee down the sink as it was undrinkable. I have never had anything like this before and was surprised from a make such as Russell Hobbs - maybe I got unlucky with a batch that was somehow contaminated. Anyway no problem returning this using Amazon refund process. Now gone back to my 20 year old Philips kettle.

WilliamWhen I ordered it, I'd expected (falsley) that you could pour water in at te spout and there'd be a measure up the side. Instead, you've got to remove the lid each time to fill. It's cheap, it's light, it's the right colour but not what I'd wanted. C'est La Vie.
