Isnt very powerful, it struggles to blitz biscuits i always end up doing them by hand. The whisk cant handle whipping cream, it overheats and you cant hold the actual handheld bit. It blends soup ok but not great. This was replacing my cheap tesco one which i had for years and only broke cos of 1 button. This one is fit for the bin only. Its also hard to clean cant put whisk or lid into water just wipe or else it fills with water and cant get it out again. Avoid!
abDreadful broke after about 3 months
ShirskiNo spring adjustment on blade. Disappointing.
Anne ChilcottTerrible product. has broken after maybe 10 uses.
Jimmy CookWish I had read reviews better, we all say the same thing! Avoid! no good if you are a cook or just messing around in kitchen
SpannerAll parts are now broken after one year or so from buying. When working it was very messy and noisy.
ileniaNot a very good product, purchased 2 years ago. It has stripped the drive and I can no longer use the bowl. Tplastic is not a good material it should be steel.
anyoneas a lot of the reviews on this project, it also stopped working on its 4th outing from its box, im now left with the attachments and not much else.i would never buy this product again, in fact its put me off purchasing another hand blender!
AnnancVery unhappy with this hand blender looks very nice stainless steel body but first time I used the chopper unit it broke other parts looked very weak in construction for breville very poor quality
p robinson grimsbyI purchased a similiar one for myself, this one was for a friend but not as rebust as mine but the same manufacturer?
RockyI received this blender as a gift from my Mum. After using the item twice, it stopped working. I received a replacement a week later. The hand units themselves seem to jump back when you use it as if there is too much force/pressure from the motor. It is very noisy compared to my previous Braun and there is a lot of vibration from the hand unit. There also seemed to be a strange smell after using for a few minutes. Almost a burning coming from the motor? I could understand if i was using it every day on hard food, however i use it to blend baby food so its cooked within an inch of its life before i blend it!! Low and behold, yesterday this one has also packed up, mid fish pie blending. I borrowed my mother-in-laws to finish off what i had started which is a Braun. Immediately i noticed how much better it was. It was quieter, didnt jump when i turned it on and didnt make any awful burning smells.I cannot explain how annoyed i am with this product especially after having two do exactly the same thing. You would expect so much more from this trusted brand, but i would definately NOT RECOMMEND this to anyone. Most of the other reviews on this product say the same thing, so i would suggest that this is a wider fault which needs to be dealt with by Breville.
JanetThis machine is good for nothing blender is not good at all and we try to use whisk it stops after 5 minutes.I am contacting company that these are faulty you have to take them back becuase lot of people complaining.
fadeelLike other reviewers, have noticed burning smells when using this, but the very worst is it has started releasing a black unknown substance (oil? decayed food?) when in use and it is impossible to get rid of. As I cannot clean it, and even if I could wouldn't be able to trust it again, I have no option but to replace this. Please note this is not a one-off - there are other examples of this in other Amazon reviews that I have read.
JerryWe bought this blender to replace an old Braun Multipractic which had given faithful service for years. The initial impression was ok - stainless steel, postive locking mechanism, useful whisk attachment and a reasonable size container.First use (making breadcrumbs) revealed a very noisy 400W motor with a lot of vibration. Second use - all the connections (blade to container head, container head to motor unit and the motor unit itself) stripped in seconds. Completely useless. The 400W motor has a very high torque startup which is obviously too much for the flimsy plastic locking lugs on the blade central spine etc upwards to the main motor unit. Poor design. Would have been better if these were metal, or physically larger in diameter to cope with the power. We understand Breville have now superseded this model - haven't checked out the new one, based on this experience...Given our old Braun lasted over 8 years (we've pressed it back into use) and did the same job, we'll go back to Braun for the Breville's replacement. We can't be bothered getting it checked through the Breville customer service, life's too short. We would recommend buying German for this sort of appliance.
William A.We used this frequently, while it worked it was excellent. After 15 months it died - an electrical fault inside the sealed case. Do not buy if you are looking for a robust machine which wich will be used frequently.
AndrewThe blender essentially blended itself so now it wont power any more and Im going to have to send it back to the manufacturer.
LizHad 2 of these - used for making baby purees mostly. 1st one - the switch stuck so had to be turned on/off at wall. 2nd one - motor blew. all in all very disappointed. Had a similar experience with a Breville kettle so will not be using this make again!
ErykahLike a few other reviewers I had problems with the motor on the blender attachment. I only used it for light blending (for soups, making houmus etc) but with a pop and a little burning smell the thing died after only 13 months. I was told by the manufacturers that no replacement parts are available. I've just bought another brand with a more powerful motor - and I will do my very best to avoid Breville in future.
PrimalI bought this product because i thought Breville was a good make. The first time i used the blender it filled up milk (i was making a smoothie)so that i couldn't wash it properly. When i did try to wash the blender attachment it filled up with water. Needless to say i took it back and got a refund
Jessif it's used for a long period of time this unit gets very hot and in my case the unit melted and stuck to the motor. i was whizzing some thai curry paste up but it has got alot hotter on other ocassions.
Sue PilkingtonIf you're looking to whip up something mouth-watering in a moment, opt for a hand blender--the smaller, more portable alternative to a blender. Unlike mini-choppers or processors, this type of blending favours foods with a higher water content and so is ideal for fixing soups, sauces, milkshakes and smoothies and tackling softer foods like fruits and vegetables.
The Breville VHB014 is a three-in-one blender set. The blender has a detachable leg, also known as the head, which is dishwasher-safe and made from stainless steel. This is less corrosive and more resistant to rusting than other materials and boasts antibacterial properties that keep it hygienic. The stainless steel, two-tip blade is positioned inside the head for safety. By keeping it neatly out of the way this also acts as an anti-splash guard to help minimise unwanted mess.
The main body of the blender has a complementary stylish and durable stainless steel and black finish and contains the powerful 400 watt (W) motor. There are two speed settings--regular and turbo--so you can change the rate at which the blades turn to give a greater level of control. And this control is further helped by the handle's ergonomic design delivering a solid and comfortable grip. Safety concerns aren't overlooked or compromised thanks to the semi-recessed buttons which prevent the motor from starting if it's accidentally knocked over or dropped.
The set is completed with the trio of versatile attachments--a large 700 millilitre (ml) beaker, a 500 ml chopper bowl with stainless steel blades and locking safety lid, and a stainless steel balloon whisk with plastic collar. The beaker has a clever 'no spill' pouring spout to help minimise spills and mess and the chopper bowl has rubber feet to prevent slippage when in use. The attachments fully dissemble for easy and quick cleaning and are dishwasher-safe to save on washing up (excluding the chopper's lid and whisk's plastic collar).
Use the chopper bowl to tackle herbs and vegetables, create chunky dips and sauces such as salsa and pesto and make breadcrumbs or alternatively reach for the whisk to whip egg whites, cream and batters.
