I have invested in Canon L lenses and was looking to upgrade from my 6D MkI. I was worried after watching YouTube reviews that the camera was inferior to the Sony A7 III. Having owned it now I have to say it’s brilliant! Viewfinder is excellent even in the dark, focus and touch screen are amazing and images are track sharp with much more ‘keepers’ thanks to the autofocus system and eye AF. I also now love the 4K timelapse function. Maybe it’s my imagination but my current EF lenses seem to produce superior images on this camera via the included adaptor. As a landscape photographer this fully meets my needs andI look forward to investing in the new RF lenses.

Excellent - A 5D Mk4 in a compact body
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The short version is that here you have a 5D Mk IV in all but name crammed into a body that's about the same size or a tad smaller than a crop sensor DSLR. This means it has the same fantastic resolution and image quality, a very flexible and accurate focus system in a compact body. Oh yes and one card slot, get over it!

I bought this camera as an upgrade to Canon EOS 60D, as my first so called full frame body (ignoring all the years I shot 35mm Film that is), my comparison is therefor not with the 5D/6D range or any other similar FF camera. I own a lot of good Canon glass and also didn't look at other makes, a system change was never on the cards. I purchased this at the 2019 Photography show from another retailer after several visits to the Canon stage. I also looked at the EOS RP, 5D Mk4 and 6D Mk2 reviewing images on my SD card shot with each. I quickly discounted the RP and 6D Mk as not meeting my needs (much as I liked them). At the time I liked everything about the EOS R except the EVF which didn't seem as 'natural' as the traditional optical viewfinder on the 5D Mk4, I have since grown to love it.
I could have easily gone for the 5D Mk4, but the R won on being slightly cheaper, smaller and having a flip screen, I used this a lot on my 60D and considered it a key feature.
In the the two months that I have used the camera, mostly for landscapes and wildlife, I have been very impressed by the picture quality and resolution, with no problem cropping right in on birds etc when needed and still getting a nice sharp and rich image. The EVF takes a few days to get used to but is highly configurable, changes orientation with the camera and can swap between several preset display modes, it is also capable of showing the as exposed image which is very useful in low light. Refresh rate and tracking in smooth mode is very fast, a bit clunky in power saving mode when used with a telephoto lens. In harsh artificial light the EVF can be a bit over saturated (which put me off initially) and can be noisy in
