Very accurate but a bit slow to update
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The scale is very nice and easy to use, along with being very accurate.Likes: - Uses AAA batteries instead of button cells. - Good size and looks great. - Simple controls and easy to use. - The screen is clear and easy to see in low light.Dislikes: - Bit slow to update the weight. - Its sometimes easy to miss-click the buttons and then for example the timer doesn't start, so a more tactile button would be better.

Good for domestic pour overs but that's it.

I was a little bit loath to purchase these scales, as I didn’t like some aspects of the specifications. Specifically, they weigh weights in different bands in different units and at varying sensitivities. Additionally some owners have reported that the scale is slow to display the weight, which is important when brewing coffee to precise recipes.Having used it daily now, for three months, I can say that the first potential gripe about weighing in different sensitivities does not affect my bean or pouring weighings, I usually use it with a V60 and sometimes with a Chemex. The lag on the display IS present but you can get round it by slowing down when you approach your target weight.Good Points:Nice to have a timer and weighing scale all in one, which makes concentrating on the read outs easy. The scale tray is wide enough for all manner of coffee jugs, V60, Chemex etc.It takes AAA batteries, so no problem having to find anything usual. Rechargeable batteries work a treat. The plastic is easy to wash down with a sponge or paper towel. The accuracy is pretty good given the caveat about which weight band you’re in.Bad Points:The weighing lag on the display is annoying but you can work round it. For a domestic situation, it’s fine but for a busy barista, this would probably drive them mad.The plastic is easily marked - it’s easy to clean - but this won’t continue to look pristine for long.In theory if the scales were splashed by a lot of water, its design means that water could enter the internals and kill it.Compared to modern digital scales, this is very limited in functionality, especially if you’re using it with espresso makers. This is a nice domestic, pour over scale. If that’s all your doing, it’s fine. I was lucky to get mine when on promotion, so it was just over £40 all in. Personally I wouldn’t pay much more than that, since for slightly more than double the money, you could get a much more capable modern coffee scale, with oodles of functions, greater waterproofness and better aesthetics.

Literally anything else will be better.

Just don't bother.
Scales can't choose whether they feel like going up in 0.1g increments of 0.5g - not exactly ideal for measuring coffee rations precisely.
The buttons are flat, and so very hard to know when you have pushed it in, especially for the timer.
I now use a different timer when pulling shots as it is jsut so unreliable.
On top of this, the weight is changeable (same item) and the scales constantly need to be tapped to actually do their job.

Good quality with better accuracy than any other scale I have come across in the price range
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I love this scale and use it for both making coffee and for baking and cooking all sorts of things. Could be somewhat easier to clean but for me the price was good and it has already lasted me for years. Better accuracy than other products in the price range i have come across.

Not for espresso lovers
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This scale doesn't suit Rancilio Silvia espresso machine at all. It's very "fat", about 3cm, so you'll have to remove the drip tray in order for it to fit under the portafilter.
All the precision goes to waste, since once you put portafilter on them, the precision goes from tents of grams to grams.
And the response time is better than a regular kitchen scale, but not good enough for espresso.
Probably it's a good solution for drip coffee lovers, but if you own an espresso machine, try something else.

Bizarre timer miscalibration issue, otherwise lovely
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

A lovely piece of kit, marred by the fact that the timer function is mysteriously (and evidently permanently) set to start at 80:80 and increment the minute counter at the 40-second mark of each interval. While otherwise a perfect way of preparing pourover coffee with the smaller Chemex, I do expect better quality control from Hario. It's a good thing I have other timers near at hand.

Some problems
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Slow scale and the display stopped working jus after 16 months.

EDIT: Made a complaint and they send me a new one immediately, very good service.
Let's see how long this one will last, hopefully many years.

Poor quality. All you pay for is the name

Way over priced. We bought two of these. They are both out of order a few months later. The buttons get stuck, the digits continue to move even after an item is on the scale for 10 seconds at times and fluctuates. Poor quality. All you pay for is the name.

Excellent

Designed for brewing pour over coffee - Chemex, V60 etc, the Hario scales are accurate and fast reading. The right window reads input weight so, having tared the scales after adding the dose of coffee grinds, you can add a precise measured amount of water in grams. The left window reads time elapsed so you can keep track of your total brew time.

Scales are slim enough to fit under most espresso machines to enable the user to weigh espresso shot weight. The scales are water resistant but not water tight so care must be taken to avoid damage to the internal mechanism.
