There is no doubt this is the most effective iron I have ever used. It makes short work of even the most crumpled hard to iron item, probaky because this emits a serious amount of steam. For home use, you'd have to be serious about ironing - but you'd get outstanding results. The steam unit takes 1.5 litres of water. It super easy to fill with a large opening for easy filling. It had it's own carry handle, and a heatproof silicone iron rest. There are two knobs, very easy to understand and operate. The iron itself is lightweight, surprisingly so, in comparison the the heavy base, There is a hose attached for steam delivery and this takes se getting used to as it feels odd.I used an ironing board and at first placed the base unit on the board. This wasnt a good idea. It made the bar unstable, and unbalanced and I felt a safety hazard as the whole lot could tip with a knock. I placed the steam base on the floor. This was satisfactory, as the steam hose and cable were ample to cope with this. Its performance and the results are outstanding. Certainly better results and quicker than any other iron I've owned before - but I cant help feeling that using this would be a faff, as 1) It takes a while to heat up 2) Its noisy 3) Where on earth do you store something so big?I think ideally this would be best stored on a large table while you iron, (not an ironing board).I'm giving 5 stars because its performance is outstanding. Do be sure that you need what is in effect a heavy use iron, for what I'd call small industrial scale use. If you are an occasional ironer like me - this might not be for you.

Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The first thing that can't fail to hit you when you take this out of the box is the huge size of it - it's fairly industrial looking! This also meant that when it's sitting on the ironing board it takes up a fair amount of space as it's way to big to sit in the iron rest of the ironing board. Once filled with water, it took longer to heat up to operating temperature than I was expecting but once it is ready, it certainly does the job! There are two dials for controlling the temperature and the steam output, as well as the usual dial on the actual iron for setting the iron to the right temperature and steam output for various fabrics. This got through my ironing really well, which I was pleased about as I have a lot of dresses which can be fiddly to iron - with the steam this thing generates, they were a doddle. From that point of view, definitely five stars, but in terms of size (lord knows where this thing is going to live in between ironings!) and the bulkiness of it when trying to empty out the water reservoir, it does drop down the ratings a bit. If you need something which will iron easily and to an excellent crease-free standard, and you have lots of room to store it (and good muscles to empty it) then this is a perfect iron for you!

A quality, well-made bit of kit that may be a little on the hefty side. It takes up a lot of space when using and as yet I haven't found space to stored it! For me, it took a bit of getting used to but I think this was mostly because I've only ever used a pretty basic iron with far fewer bells and whistles. It does a great job but the amount of steam it produces seemed a little excessive. Ideal for anyone who does a lot of ironing.

Effective but cumbersome
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

It's one thing to see this in the picture but quite another to receive it in a huge box, unpack it and realise that you have to find a place to keep this huuuuge iron!! It is certainly really effective and made ironing really easy, but I found the steam hose slightly limiting since I had to balance the whole unit on my ironing board because it just isn't really long enough. As you might expect, there are quite a few instructions that go with this unit. In the end I deferred to my other half and let him figure it out, and then show me how to do it as it seemed a bit much like hard work after staring this beast in the face... Happily I was wrong, it isn't that hard to operate at all. The one thing we haven't figured out is how to empty the water from the base, without needing two of us to hold the iron and base and shake etc... We have left it full!!This did a lovely job of steaming our laundry and it was really light weight to use - more so than other irons I have had because the weight of the water is in the base, which you aren't pushing about. The base is hefty but has a convenient handle and isn't so bad really - my cheap ironing board took the weight very readily and it proved stable enough that I wasn't worried about it falling off too much; still, it would be better to plan on using this next to a table if possible which would be even sturdier.Four stars - epic size and a bit over facing, but actually a great iron.

Powerful....
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The first thing that strikes you about these type of irons is the size and the weight. If storage is an issue, then you may need to keep to the traditional type of iron (of which there are now some that fit between the two types – like the top of the Philips Azur range). The next thing that strikes you is the look and feel of quality. It looks like an iron that will quickly plough through the laundry, and we weren’t disappointed. After plugging in the more than adequate power cable, it took a couple of minutes to get to the correct temperature to produce steam. The amount of steam was excellent…. far more than you would get from a traditional iron. The controls on the iron were easy to use, and the instruction manual was clearer than many you get these days. The price of the iron is on the higher side of many, so there are a lot of makes to choose from. We found this to be a quality iron that looks as if it will last.

An excellent iron/steamer that could be improved
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a high quality iron/steamer that really gets the job done. Here is some of what we've noticed:Good* The iron/steamer is heavy enough to feel sturdy and well-built without being overly heavy like the Philips GC7619/20 is.* The customizability of the steam and heat output work wonderfully, allowing easy switching between fabric types and desired steaming.* The instruction are clear and easy to follow. After dealing with some poor instructions included with some recent products, this part really stood out to me. They leave you with no questions about how to operate the iron and what each dial and switch does.* The power cord and steam hose are quite long, both of which are a necessity when it comes to steaming. Not so good* The base is TALL, which makes it tricky to store. A different layout of the water canister would have minimized the height, though that also would have reduced the angle at which the iron/steamer sits. The other difficulty with the base's height is filling it with water. I'd love to just stick the base under the faucet and fill away, but it's too tall to fit in our sink and I don't fancy filling it in our shower. When another tool is required to fill the water tank, I'd love to see the company provide that with the unit.* The handle could have more range. It doesn't seem to have been built with the idea of carrying the water-filled base in mind. It works fine when the base is empty, but not as well when it's full. It's not an issue of its sturdiness or durability, simple the amount of movement the handle is capable of is too restricted for easy carrying. In summary, I don't care for some of its design elements, but aside from those, this is an excellent iron/steamer.

First class....ironing is a breeze!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

An excellent iron. Great quality and design both aesthetically and practically. It is sturdy, but not overly heavy with a robust carrying handle (a great touch), and sensible cable tidy. The plate is easy to clean and has plenty of steam outlet holes right up to the tip of the iron. The steam function itself is first class and is instant in manual mode.Ironing is a breeze and the tank is large enough to cope with a mountain of ironing...which we often face in our household! If there is a negative ....it is that the tank is not removable as with some steam generating irons I have tried. It is therefore quite awkward to empty if you have a fair amount of water left in the iron on completion. But I am nit picking here.Highly recommended and the best steam generating iron I have tried.

Not compact but certainly powerful.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Hmm, not sure on the definition of "compact" here, it is a big unit.We had two other steam irons in the house, one self contained and one almost identical to this. The iron packed in under the strain of a normal family or four. The steam generator worked well but components started to get flaky and the hose frayed. Guess that is all about paying for what you get. This piece of kit has so far been very reliable and once you get it switched on, it just ploughs into the laundry pile. The tank in the base unit is a major saving grace. Not sure on the capacity but you are not going to need to fill it halfway through a couple of baskets.Controls are a doddle, select the heat and away you go.

Great performance, nice long steam hose, but ridiculously narrow spout to the water chamber
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is pretty good. It's the fourth steam generating iron I've tried, after 2 Philips and a Laurastar, so it was interesting to compare performance of this AEG. Especially as out of the 4 irons, it's the cheapest!Firstly, performance wise, it's spot on, and is as good as the others I've tried. It heats up in about 2 minutes, gives a good amount of steam, has a nice soleplate, and irons quickly and effectively. It whizzes through items and is powerful enough to iron right the way through clothes from one side only.In it's favour over the others, it has a really really long steam hose, which makes it easier to use than other makes, and means you dont have to place the steam generator right next to your ironing board to reach the end.On the negative side there is no auto switch off if you don't use it for a while. But the major flaw, and hence why not 5 stars, is the water chamber. It's non-detachable, so you either have to unplug the rather big and heavy base (it's not at all compact as the name suggests) and take it to the sink. OR you take the water to the device, BUT the opening to the water chamber is really really narrow, so water spills everywhere. It's a shame, as this really is quite a simple design flaw that somewhat ruins what would otherwise be a fantastic affordable steam generating iron.

Awesome Iron
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a wonderful iron.It comes well packaged, is very heavy and very big, and you can tell this is well made. The ironing is wonderful, seamless and easy. The results are fantastic, and it gets through my loads of washing in much, much quicker time than a standard iron. It takes a few minutes to heat up, then away you go. The steam generation is massive, much more steam than I had been used to.The wire is a decent enough distance that I can plug it in and not worry about it falling off. Another decent part of the design. This is the first AEG iron I have used, but it is brilliant.

Ace steam generator.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Steam generators are fairly specialist; for most of us, a steam iron is fine. They do pretty much what they always have. That said, a decent steam generator does have its advantages if you have a lot to iron and, also, if you make clothes, I think.I have used another one and found it useful, this, however is good because it's solid and, in spite of being mainly plastic. It heats up (around two minutes) as quickly as any others I've seen. The best thing about this, however, is its small(ish) footprint.Recommended.

Hardly 'compact' - but still a good iron.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The first thing to be said about this 'compact' steam generator iron is that - in my opinion - it is not compact at all. In fact it is even larger than our other steam generating iron (a Philips PerfectCare Aqua ECO Steam Generator Iron ); in itself quite a big beast of an iron.It is immediately evident that this is a well-made, quality product (as you might expect from AEG). The plastics and switch-gear are robust and the whole unit looks and feels like it is built to last. The steam cord and power cable are of a sensible length and the base unit has a handy integrated handle should you need to move it from place to place. In operation the story is more of a mixed bag. Once switched on (and filled with water) the unit takes a couple of minutes to reach operating temperature at which point the 5-Bar of pressure on offer really blasts out the steam (which you control by trigger via the handle of the iron - which can be 'locked on' for continuous steam if preferred). The steam generated from this model is really quite something actually, probably outperforming any iron I have ever tested (which is quite a few - I need to get out more!). The volume of steam and the projection from the sole-plate is truly impressive - and more than adequate for all your ironing needs ( a fact seemingly recognised by the manufacturers as you can select the 'Eco' mode which allows you to slightly reduce the temperature and power settings but claims to save you 20% in power consumption. Having tried the 'Eco' settings I would have to say this too is more than adequate for most tasks).Depending on your point of view this model is either highly customisable or needlessly fiddly. The two dials at the rear of the unit control steam amount and power output respectively. There is also a traditional-looking temperature dial on the iron itself which controls temperature. This gives the user a lot of options in terms of settings for different types of garments and fabrics. However, like most users (or maybe it's just 'a man thing') I tend to
