B S.With camera equipment you often get what you pay for. Samyang make very good manual focus lenses but their a.f lens have terrible auto focus performance. Ended up returning this due to the issues with it. It's not sharp at all at any aperture and autofocus performance is extremely poor even in good light. One to avoid for sure!
TommyI love the size and weight of this lens - it's perfect for travel and street photography, but the sharpness is really week at the corners at f/2.8. It's getting better if you stop down but anyway not perfect under f/5.6. At f/8 the corners are crisp sharp. Unfortunately, this Samyang 24/2.8 lens doesn't have the great sharpness that the Samyang 35/2.8 lens produces. Also at f/2.8 you can notice a strong vignetting, it's getting better at f/5.6. Auto focusing is really inconsistent in low light situations. Overall this lens is really compact, light and cheap, does the job, but I think the integrated lens of my point and shoot Sony RX100 IV camera is providing much better results.
My Family Day PhotographyI bought this based on my experience with the similar Samyang 35/2.8 which is stellar, but this one was a big disappointment. It is reasonably sharp if focused manually, though well behind its 35mm sibling. AF is another matter...I only tried it on my A6500 but it failed miserably, missing focus more often than not. Even if I manuaaly focused first the AF would pull it out of focus a little then confirm focus - resulting in a soft image almost every time.Perhaps I just got a lemon and yours will be fine, who can say. Needless to say I am returning mine. I’m extremely disappointed.
