After a year of owning this lens it does get better the more you use it. I own 3 Sigma lenses now and apart from my 14-24 F2.8 which is double the price to buy this comes and easy second in regards to quality. To be able to pick a day where you fancy just shooting a focal length of 35mm or 50mm and know the lens will perform well is a great option to have, even at the far end of the zoom the quality is still great for most scenarios. This beats my prime Sigma 20mm F1.4 in optical quality i think. For the price i think its an excellent buy and looked after will last you years to come. i would have no problem in recommeding this lens for the price point. I use it on a D810 by the way.
Mr THeavy, but love it. Picture quality is fabulous, and sharp! I do sometimes wish I had a few extra f-stops of light but I normally like to shoot between f4 and f11 anyway so all good. The image stabilisation works like a charm and the focus ring is super smooth which is great for video work.
Timothy WardThe lens cap is useless and falls off all the time it’s really annoying. The lens it’s self is good value.
paul wesleyI have the Sigma 17-50 F2.8 and bought the 24-105 F4 as a replacement. I shoot action in the evening, most of the time without a flash. Obviously the 2.8 can let in more light, but I generally shoot around F4/5.6 anyway to make that image sharper.I was blown away by how sharp the 24-105 actually is. I can zoom in quite a lot and it's still very sharp throughout the zoom range. This is definitely a much better lens than the 17-50. It does cost more money, is bigger, is heavier, but I highly recommend it. I think if you need just one lens, this lens should be it.I've previously owned the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 and that was an amazing sharp lens with amazing bokeh. However that lens was too big and heavy for my needs. I haven't compared the photos from that and this lens side by side, but I think it could be similar.
Gary HAuto focus is a little slow but being used with my Sony A7iii with the Sigma adapter is producing some of the best of photos. This lens is perfect for all round. It has just the added range that I needed. Most of my lenses are primes and this lens has allowed me to get closer to my subject.
MeganNice lens, overall an excellent performance for the price. I didn’t need to perform any autofocus fine tuning on my D810- pictures are very sharp straight from the box. The only issue I have is zoom creeping. The lens barrel always extends to full length when the camera is held with a neck/shoulder strap. A zoom lock function would have been a nice add.
Freddie73Having owned the original Canon 24-105 for many years I was hoping this lens would be as good. I would say it's better, having more contrast and sharpness (same thing really), feels great to use (the weight is neither here or there) and IS is silent. Plus half the price of a Canon - no brainer.
AnglosaxonCurrently using this on my Nikon D750......the lens gives an excellent range - wide to reasonable tele for the subject matter, principally landscapes.Stabilisation is good and although the lens is heavy compared with similar NIKON Lenses ...this is not problem for me.The heft adds to the perception of a quality Lens.Well pleased
D. GoddardBought this lens for my Canon 5D m2 and Sony A7 m2Took a while to work out a middle ground with so many lens options, but worth the choice.I’m not a serious photographer like wildlife, sports etc just a hobbyist really, but this lens so far is great for portraits or not being to close to my son :) so I can capture moments without having lens right in people his face and capture more them small moments.Overall a Great all rounder with great focus and sharpness :) and if your the kind of person wondering weather to go f/2 or f/4 go with the f/4 you can adjust your settings for the slight light loss and the advantage is you can buy some of the other great fixed lens which are out there 24, 50, and maybe a 85mm
NathanWhat a lens. Pin sharp images.
MARK MCKEOWNAfter having to return the last three Nikon lenses due to inferior AF and cheapo plastic build quality, I decided to take a chance on the Sigma. I am extremely surprised by the solid build of the lens and the image quality is great. The only complaint I have is the lens is on the heavy side, but a small price to pay for a versatile piece of glass. I do recommend purchasing the dock as well, because it is more than likely that some calibration will be required. A decent lens overall though.
Amazon customerI am an amateur photographer. Bought for my Nikon D750 I have been pleased with the performance and picture quality.
Mike SSuperb lens, as would be expected from Sigma. I have used the lens exclusively since purchase for various subjects and find it excellent value for money and have no gripes at all.
M FultonThis is my first foray into the sigma "art" range and i have to say i am very impressed with the pure sharpness of this zoom lens.
I have attached a throw away image taken straight out of the camera at 105mm (F4.5, ISO 200) using this lens on a d750, through a dirty window and without proper setup. Very much a fire and delete image but i feel it demonstrates just how pin sharp even at the extremes of the range it is. The second image is a 100% crop of the original.
Down at 24mm the lens is slightly wide angle on a FF body, perfect for my landscape work and is great for shooting in tight spaces.
Nice boek, not too extreme.
Downsides to the lens. Well, Its pretty heavy and bulky but that's to be expected given its a FF lens and relativity low aperture. I am not sure how i feel about the placement of the focus ring at the base of the lens but im sure over time i will get used to it.
Also, you need to take care of ghosting and lens flare if any light source hits the lens (i would assume due to its slightly convex outer glass).
All in all, a very good FF zoom lens at a reasonable price. I would advise if you want the sharpest image, try to hit F4.5-7, it can be a little more soft either side of this.

Andy BCamera’s come ang go; glass however is another story. Those that know, invest in glass over camera technology. Say what you like about Sigma’s Art range of lenses; bottom line, they (Sigma) produce some fantastic glass. The Art range continues to grow and continues to go from strength to strength.
The Sigma 24-105 mm F4 DG HSM Lens is no exception. I have it mirrored to both Full Frame and APS-C cameras. Obviously, I see better results from the Full Frame camera but the APS-C (crop sensor) cameras do not disappoint.
To get the VERY best from the lens, I strongly urge you to investigate the Reikan FoCal software. Once purchased, the camera and lens can be AF Fine Tuned with ease. Critical as Sigma’s lens’ do suffer from front and back focusing issues. My copy was tolerable but once corrected with FoCal, all of my focused images are now tack sharp.
Believe everything you read about the 24-105; it really is that good! There are tens of reviews on the lens, most of which are credit-worthy. Those that are enthuse about the lens’ quality and ability to render a good image. The only downside, and it’s the ONLY downside, it’s big and it’s heavy. I live with this small issue because the quality of the images are right up there in my opinion.

ANDREW ROBINSONVery happy with this lens ,goes on my canon and with mc11 to my Sony ,works great on both
Amazon CustomerSoon after buying this lens, encouraged by all the positive reviews on the internet (including Tony Northrup's that someone here mentioned), it became my primary one.
I tend to carry my camera (Canon 6D Mark II) in a backpack almost all the time, when taking a walk, commuting, etc., as I never know when a nice photo opportunity might pop up. Not being a pro photographer, I wanted to have a single lens that I'd rarely need to replace. Of course, I take it off for specific reasons like macro photography or when I need a telephoto lens, but for most of the photos, this lens does its job remarkably well.
Now I am able to just grab the camera and shoot in practically all everyday situations, without much hassle yet with great results, and I'm really happy to have bought this lens.
The Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM is the perfect lens in this respect as it covers the basic shooting range from wide to mid-telephoto. Moreover, its constant aperture of F4, OS (Optical Stabilizer) and HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) enhances the lens' usability. It is ideal for portraits, landscapes and general photography.
This is a lens that represents the concept of Sigma's "Art" line, and it meets the highest standard of their quality tests. For those standard lenses with a high zoom ratio, they tend to show astigmatic aberration, field curvature, distortions and colour aberration. In order to compensate for these, various types of high-performance lenses, such as FLD, SLD and glass-moulded aspheric lenses including double-sided aspheric lens, have been included into the optical system. In addition, it suppresses chromatic aberration very effectively at telephoto-end, and achieves superior image quality throughout the zoom range. This lens overcomes low peripheral brightness that is common for those lenses with similar specifications. Also, the wide filter size 82mm is contributing for superior optical performance.
This lens incorporates an OS system which offers superior stabilization, making it possible to compensate for camera shake even in macro range photography where a small blur can be easily identified.
The lens' wide zoom ring ensures convenient handling. Putting the zoom ring in front allows the lens barrel to be more compact. The inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, enhancing the lens' stability and allowing use of Circular Polarizing filters.
Flare and ghosting were thoroughly measured and monitored from an early stage in the lenses development to establish an optical design which is resistant to strong incidental light such as backlight. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
With a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6, this lens is excellent for close-up photography. The 9 blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive round bokeh at large-aperture settings.
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures a silent, high-speed AF function. Optimizing AF algorithm, smoother AF is achieved. It also enables full-time manual focusing capability which allows sensible focus adjustment by simply rotating the focus ring.
The new product lines incorporate rubber for the attachment part of the provided lens hood. For better usability, the designs of the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch have been improved. In order to ensure high accuracy of the product, all metallic parts and the new compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has a high affinity to metal parts, are housed internally. On the zoom ring, the last three digits of its release year are engraved so the lens can be identified according to the year of its launch.
