Great , good value lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I needed a lens for my Canon EOS 200D specifically for product photography at home - where the natural light can often be poor but also really wanted to a blurred background. This is a fantastic lens - I'm not an expert photographer - I have an on-line retail business and need good lifestyle photographs - this lens fits the bill. Didn't want to spend double on the equivalent Canon lens and with this Sigma lens, I didn't need to. Very happy with my purchase! I've attached some photos - like I said, I'm not an expert like some of you guys but this look is exactly what I wanted to achieve.

The Sigma Art lenses are sweet, but this 35mm 1.4 is just out of this world! So crisp, its my new go to lens for portraits just love it! Great price for a lens you wont ever leave behind! I shoot on Canon 5d MarkIV and its the perfect partner lens!

Fantastic lens but ONLY if you win the lens lottery - which I have yet to do.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

As a professional, you need your gear to work. When you buy a lens new, you expect it to work.I have no idea how Sigma are selling consistently out of focus 35mm lenses. This is my second Sigma 35mm art with this problem and I feel like an idiot for thinking that I would get lucky and get a copy that works. You don't have to be a pixel peeper to see the problems. I took the lens out of the box and put it on my camera. I then shot at f1.4 through the viewfinder and my shots were noticeably out of focus. Straight out the box it was totally missing focus, how are these lenses leaving the factory? I have the USB dock which I had bought to attempt to fix my first copy but this lens would focus so inconsistently that the USB dock was little to no good.If you are a professional and are considering purchasing this lens - please think twice. Unless you get a seemingly mythical 'good copy', you WILL miss shots and not realise until you go through the images on your computer. The missed focus is often very hard to see on the camera display but very clear on a computer. The Sigma 50mm Art is fantastically sharp the vast majority of the time with no need for any adjustments so how is this lens such a catastrophe?

Great lens for fashion photography +
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Excellent lens. Heavier than what I'm used to but it feels sturdy and wonderfully made. I've been using the Canon 1.8 50mm for years, and this lens feels like a more high end, versatile upgrade with stunning results. I use it mainly for fashion photography.

Focusing remains an issue
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Really disappointed by this lens - I have a 50mm Art which is supreme and found a focusing issue with my lens. I had it replaced by amazon but the new one still isn’t right, so now having to send to Sigma to be calibrated. You shouldn’t need to buy a dock after forking out £640 to get a lens to work. Really disappointed in Sigma.

One of My Favourite Lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I wanted to get this Lens for ages. It would help me out a lot when it comes to small spaces with a Aperture at f1.4 to get enough light in.I finally got the lens now and used it on a couple of fashion/portrait photo shoots. All I can say this lens is one of my favourite lens at the moment. The lens is sharp and the focusing is really good. I have used it outdoors and indoors. I love the look of this lens really stands out. What I love about this lens I am able to shoot at f1.4 and get some amazing shots. This lens is not only good for my portrait work is also great for Film Making, Landscape and Cityscape, Travel and Weddings etc. It a great overall lens to have in your camera bag. This lens made a prefect Combination with my other prime lens. I recommend anyone who like Prime Lens or want a cheaper version than the Canon 35mm f1.4L. I would 100% get this lens.

Back focusing problem.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Unfortunately my lens is being returned. When it focused properly, the shots were ultra sharp, but the lens I received turned out to have a serious back focusing problem when autofocusing which was not corrected by micro adjustments on the camera. Will be buying a canon lens instead.

This lens is simply amazing. I’m comparing this lens to my selection of Canon lens.Build quality feels pro. Focus ring is smooth with enough resistance to make for a nice glide into focus, would be ideal for motion pictures. There is no weather seal but then the canon equivalent doesn’t ether. The lens is fairly heavy but I like this. Feels stable in the hand.Image quality is simply amazing. Seriously, my only lens that comes close is my Canon 70-200 2:8 is. This Sigma lens is brutally sharp. Hand held at 1:4 the focus is tack sharp when checked at 100x zoom in post. Every fibre, crease or blemish is visually apparent. This could be an issue as your model may require more post editing.I’m so impressed with this lens I’m now looking to get the sigma art 85mm 1:4. If your thinking of getting a 35mm 1:4 and want value for money. Get the Sigma art. If you want to spend at least double or more for the little red ring on the canon lens, well go ahead, but you could get an 85mm art 1:4 as well as 35mm art 1:4 for the same price as the canon lens. Think I’m a Sigma convert!

Product Description

One of Sigma's finest creations yet, this lens sets a new benchmark for performance, offering quality that exceeds expectations in every way. Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our new Art line delivers superior image quality for high-level artistic expression. This new lens embodies the concept of our new Art lenses.

Our Art line delivers high-level artistic quality Sigma is organizing all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines; Contemporary, Art and Sports. Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our Art line delivers high-level artistic expression. Developed with the maximum emphasis on artistic touch, our Art line lenses are designed to meet the expectations of users who value a creative, dramatic outcome above compactness and multifunction. Along with landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-up and casual snaps, they're perfect for the kind of photography that unleashes the inner artist. Ideal for studio photography, they offer just as much expressive scope when capturing architecture, starry skies, underwater shots and many other scenes. The SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is the first lens from the Art line.

Unsurpassed Optical Performance To actualise a high-performance lens, one of the essential elements is aberration correction. This lens incorporates FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements, and by optimizing the power alignment of the lens, both types of aberration have been corrected. The lens achieves ultra-high image quality through the entire focusing range. Also, by appropriate alignment of aspheric lenses, astigmatism and field curvature are corrected. The result is superior optimum resolution even in peripheral areas.

Attractive blur effect Correction of coma aberration enabled less blur on a point light source in peripheral areas, and the function is best used for astrophotography and illuminations. It is also possible to create an attractive blur to the out of focus areas. The aspheric lens elements used as the first lens have secured peripheral brightness while correcting distortion. The rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

Flare and ghosting conscious design In order to achieve high rendering on this flagship lens, flare and ghosting were thoroughly measured from an early stage to establish an optical design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.

Hyper Sonic Motor The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures high speed and quiet AF as well as full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring. With the enhanced AF algorithm, smoother AF is achieved.

Brass made bayonet mount This lens incorporates a brass made bayonet mount which has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.

Ease of use The new product lines incorporate rubber for the attachment part of the provided lens hood. For better usability, the design of the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch have been improved. In order to ensure high accuracy of the product, all metallic parts and the new compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has high affinity to metal parts, are housed internally.

Evaluation with Sigma's own MTF measuring system “A1” Sigma used to measure lens performance with MTF measuring systems using conventional sensors. However, they have now developed their own proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system (A1) using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. Even previously undetectable high-frequency details are now within the scope of their quality control inspections. All SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM lenses will be checked using the “A1” before they leave the factory.

“Made in Japan” All Sigma's manufacturing, right down to moulds and parts is carried out under an integrated production system, entirely in Japan. Sigma is now one of the very few manufacturers whose products are solely “made in Japan”. Their sophisticated products have satisfied professionals and lovers of photography all over the world, because the manufacturing is based on genuine craftsmanship, underpinned by the passion and pride of their experts.
