Excellent Lens

I bought this 35mm lens because of the value for money. The photos it takes are high quality. It's an excellent piece of kit.

Absolutely rubbish!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

With camera equipment you often get what you pay for. Samyang make very good manual focus lenses but their a.f lens have terrible auto focus performance. Ended up returning this due to the issues with it. It's not sharp at all at any aperture and autofocus performance is extremely poor even in good light. One to avoid for sure!

Excellent Value For Money
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This lens is extremly lightweight, and small in size. I've just received the lens today, and it focuses well even in poor light. The focal length of 24mm would work well for interior photography with the lens set to it's widest aperture of f/2.8, and the lens resolves detail very well for it's price point. The out of focus areas render very nicely as can be seen by the figurehead, taken at f/2.8. The lens is incredibly versitile in that it can be used as a full frame lens on my Sony A7ii for example, but also on the Sony A6xxxx series cameras, where the focal length becomes 36mm, which is a very nice street / travel lens, the photos show the camera mounted on the full frame, as well as the APS-C Sony A6300. The lens hood is a bit plasticky, overall construction is solid, the lens isn't stabilised or weather proof, however I'm very pleased with this lens. One thing to be aware of is the the lens was supplied at version 02, the current firmware version is 04, and you require a Samyang Dock to update the firmware, currently priced at £49.99, the process is relatively easy, for me the price of the dock is shared over 2 lenses, as I have the Samyang AF 45mm lens as well.

superb combination of light weight, small size and quality
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This lens is so good because it’s tiny, weighs nothing (under 100gm). And it’s full frame! You hardly know it’s there, it is the perfect travel lens. I use it with a Sony A7R II, and I'm finding (only had it a couple of months or so) that it’s not being a zoom lens is actually a plus. With the camera providing 42 megapixels (and full frame), you have loads of scope for digital cropping afterwards, while still ending up with high quality shots of 15-20 megapixels. It makes it the ultimate point and shoot – no need to worry about getting the framing exactly right as you look at a scene. Just take the pic! Having used zoom lenses for decades, pretty much exclusively, it makes the whole process of taking pix feel very different, and pleasant! And you are much less likely to miss something. I also have the Sony full frame 24-240 zoom lens. When I use it, it feels enormous and heavy – even though it’s advertised as being compact and light! Put it this way – you wouldn't want to do a long walk with it, whereas the Samyang is perfect. And wasn’t one of the benefits of mirrorless bodies supposed to be that they were smaller than SLRs?I’d say the Samyang is currently one of the bargains of the whole photographic market. Haven't had any problems at all with the AF. My advice is buy one!

Great for the price
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Using it on an A7ii. Very small and light, you’d hardly know it was there. I’ve had no major problems with the a/f, even in low light, not perfect but gets you there 9 times out of 10. I’ve got good results with landscape, street and low light. Has very little distortion, and just a little vignetting, At it’s best it’s nice and sharp but probably not up to level of much more expensive options. I love using it, the wide angle is amazing for getting good interior shots, and the Bokeh is nice when stopped down for portraits etc.

Great value, plus excellent performance for a lens which is great for street photos and landscape pictures. Also so small that on the camera you scarcely notice it, and off the camera it can be carried in a small pocket. strongly recommended.

Not bad, but definitely NOT great lens!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I love the size and weight of this lens - it's perfect for travel and street photography, but the sharpness is really week at the corners at f/2.8. It's getting better if you stop down but anyway not perfect under f/5.6. At f/8 the corners are crisp sharp. Unfortunately, this Samyang 24/2.8 lens doesn't have the great sharpness that the Samyang 35/2.8 lens produces. Also at f/2.8 you can notice a strong vignetting, it's getting better at f/5.6. Auto focusing is really inconsistent in low light situations. Overall this lens is really compact, light and cheap, does the job, but I think the integrated lens of my point and shoot Sony RX100 IV camera is providing much better results.

It’s a five star lense even if it was £150 more expensive. You mustn’t compare with a g master as it’s not the same price range. But the weight (or lack of it), the decent autofocus and the price is great. If you don’t want to spend a big amount of money then this lens is perfect for a 24 mm

Bought this as I wanted a fairly compact wide angle lens to carry when I was traveling without my big Pro zoom lenses, and I’m well pleased with it. It really is tiny, and weighs next to nothing. The construction is a bit plasticky compared to my Sony and Zeiss lenses, but the AF works well, and optically it is way better than it should be for £250... OK - f2.8 is a bit limiting, but that’s the price you pay for compactness. I wasn’t sure whether I would keep it, but it’s a no-brainer now I’ve tried it.

Autofocus could have been better
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

What I really like about this lens is that how lightweight it is. On my recent trip to Mallorca, I carried just this one with my A7iii and I didn't miss any other. This is a good lens for landscapes as it's wide enough and doesn't create distortions. Also, because of the IBIS feature in the camera, lack of OSS in the lens doesn't bother in stills but would be able to tell the difference in videos though. This is something you wouldn't really notice until you zoom in on the pic in my opinion. In the picture of the stones, the autofocus struggled to focus the stones in front and when I thought it did focus not sure when it changed it to the stones down on the left. It's not a bad pic at first glance but when zoomed in you can tell the difference. There is slight vignetting on the corners and this was something I was aware of even before I purchased the lens, but to be honest it doesn't bother me at all as it's easy to correct in post. The sunstar at F14 was not too bad.In my opinion, this is not a perfect lens but you've really got to weigh why you need it. For me, when I travel I would prefer less weight and trade-off with some quality instead. Pretty good for what it is
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Using this on an A7riii is probably a bit harsh on the lens, the 42mp really make all flaws noticeable, having said that it's acceptable for what it is -small, light, unobtrusive ..and cheap (relatively)I'll assess optical quality first, then other things such as AF:Wide open at 2.8 it is okay but definitely not using the full potential of high end full frame cameras.Stop down a bit and it improves considerably, so pretty good for landscapes on the go traveling light (which is why I bought it). It could also be useful for street photography though I have not tried it yet in that capacityMy biggest issue is the Autofocus, which is a bit hit and miss in my experience. Initially, It focussed just in front of the object I was trying to shoot and made the object soft, the only way around this was to use the zoomed in view which worked better. I purchased the dock to try to correct focus / update firmware for an improvement and with a bit of fiddling managed to get it to where it is now -focussing relatively accurately in AF-S but the zoomed in view is hit or miss. This works better for me than before but it's still not perfect. Perhaps I just have a bad copy but it don't feel fully comfortable trusting it..In the positive side, I use it for a small light walk around lens that can do a bit of landscape and for that purpose it's done it's job. It's probably one of my worst lenses realistically but makes up for it with the tiny size and relatively good ability stopped downConclusion -good for casual landscapes and a light walk around / street lens but don't expect miracles.

A great value lens for your Sony full frame mirrorless camera
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Having convinced myself that mirrorless was the future, I spent a small fortune on a Sony A7III and wanted some cheap glass that would autofocus to get me up and running and allow my to get up to speed with the camera. Whilst saving to invest in some better glass in the coming months. This little beauty went above and beyond my expectations. It's tack sharp and has very little distortion (only slightly noticeable after a Lightroom fix).

This lens overperforms for the price
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

There is nothing not to like. This lens is light, compact and produces stunning photos. The only real downside is that the lens hood is really tiny so you occasionally get a bit of lens flare. The focusing is fast and precise, and it's really great for landscapes. I'm sure there are technically and professionally better lenses out there but if this is the price range you're looking at then this is an absolute steal.

Outstanding!!!!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This lens is excellent!Measure your expectations, its not super sharp like the big brand equivalents and "only" a 2.8 lens but image quality is actually very good. Colour is great, AF is snappy an unlike another reviewer here I have found it to be really reliable locking on and eye AF is also supported well.Ultimately its the size and insane light weight that make it such a gem, you can literally carry it anywhere, pop it on and let the fun begin. And it is fun!!!I never thought I would use this focal length much, I am naturally suited to 35/50 but have really found an opening mostly due to this lens being so amazingly small it allows me to take my camera everywhere without drawing attention. I have the A7r ii and it feels like I am carrying the body only, a wonderful feeling! It's a keeper!!!
