Poor image quality

I know this is a cheap lens so the quality isn't going to be up-to-par with my £1,000+ L-series lenses but the image quality is particularly poor.The AF speed is also incredibly slow and it hunts a lot before finding focus. The worst thing about it is that it's focus-by-wire so is completely useless for video (unless you want horribly jerky focus pulls).

Pancake lens

Natural perspective

On an APS-C EOS body, the 24 mm focal length provides the same angle of view as a 38 mm lens on a full-frame DSLR. It's close to that of the human eye, giving your photos a natural perspective.

Shoot in low light

Shoot from dawn to dusk. The fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 lets in plenty of light, so you can shoot atmospheric scenes without using flash. It also provides a shallow depth of field to make your foreground subjects pop.

Fast, near-silent focusing

Great for video too, the near-silent STM focusing is fast and smooth. Your movies won't be spoilt by clunky, slow focusing, so you can move between subjects with confidence.

Sharp results

Whatever you're shooting, you can enjoy sharpness right across the frame. Flare and coloured fringing are also reduced thanks to the advanced optical design. You can shoot as close as 16 cm to get a unique perspective of smaller subjects.
