I am a professional photographer who doesn't like to carry around professional equipment on days out - too big, too bulky and too expensive. So this pancake lens is the exact opposite and perfect for me!I pair this lens with a Canon 200d. When you combine these two, it doesn't look as a retro or stylish as Fuji or Olympus compacts - but it weighs less and is actually physically smaller than the cameras which are often used for street photography by virtue of their compactness.I highly recommend putting this lens with a small DSLR such as 100d or 200d, and you will not even notice it on days out. During winter, I can even fit it in the larger pockets of my winter jacket, skipping the need for any sort of bag or carrying device. The lens itself is fine - for personal use on a 24MP camera, the image quality is fine and I am happy with the quality of my holiday and family photos. The AF is fast and accurate enough unless you are intent on making giant wall art from your photos.I also have the 40mm version of this lens, which is the same size. The 24mm, 40mm and the camera is my full travel kit.NB on the EF-S mount cameras the 24mm is going to have a roughly 38mm equivalent focal length. This is what makes it perfect for taking on days out, as a with a full frame body I would use something around 35mm for the versatility on the street.
jimbob1990I already have a 50mm Prime ("nifty-fifty") f1.8 and I have only tried this lens out once so far in a shoot capacity.Pluses:I could get nearer the action than with the 50mmWorked well with the flashgun and no issues with automatic focus.I read several reviews that complained of noisy focusing, but as I was shooting in a noisy venue I didn't perceive any issue that was annoying me.Being able to get a wider angle view.Minuses:I am still getting to grips with this lens, but I didn't like the results as much as the 50mm, but that's probably because it gives a "close-up" look, and I'm guessing I could crop this lens' images and the result will be the same...I am a hobbyist/keen amateur NOT a Pro fyi. Thanks for reading my review, please click "helpful" if my review has helped you to decide either way, many thanks

At first I was sceptical about ordering a Canon lens from Amazon. Usually I order from Canon direct, Argos or Currys. I saw this fantastic deal for £50 lens than Canon and went for it with my eyes closed. I always believe that you should only buy quality whenever it comes to Camera equipment. I used Amazon prime so it came literally the next day.I took the lens with my 700D DSLR to see the performance. I must say that I am shocked. The image quality is crystal clear. Better than the typical 18-55mm zoom lens. The lens isn't heavy, it's discreet and has silent auto focusing. The price is extremely affordable and I like the metal attachment ring.Next I'll probably buy a 50mm 1/4 pancake, 10-18mm zoom lens for my YouTube vlogs and photography. I was hesitant to use the lens for my YouTube videos and decided to try it out. I was VERY happy with the quality. If you would like to see the quality, search 'Angela Nakiyingi' on YouTube. My latest video is called 'If job interviews were really honest'. You can see the image quality there.Overall very happy!

I know this is a cheap lens so the quality isn't going to be up-to-par with my £1,000+ L-series lenses but the image quality is particularly poor. The AF speed is also incredibly slow and it hunts a lot before finding focus. The worst thing about it is that it's focus-by-wire so is completely useless for video (unless you want horribly jerky focus pulls).
JoeThis lens is quite simply superb. I recently swapped my old Nikon for a cheaper Canon 200d but invested in some decent lenses and I am thrilled with the results. The images are sharp, it works as well at macro level as it does with landscapes and it is as light as a feather, making it easy to put my DSLR in my handbag so it is always with me and ready for taking photographs of absolutely anything. On top of this it is not expensive so far as lenses go. I have always been reluctant to let go of my zoom lenses but having this lens on your camera gives you a different perspective. Just buy it!
MissLJKBefore buying this lens and trying it by myself, I really struggled to believe to all the positive reviews I was reading about it. In particular everyone seemed to be happy about how sharp this lens is.This lens is simply amazing and pictures are really sharp, compared to the Canon 18-55mm kit lens (you can judge yourself looking at the pictures I attached). It is also very small and light to carry, and thanks to its f/2.8 maximum aperture it can deliver good results in low light conditions. If I had to travel and I could only carry one lens, I would definitely bring this one with me.

I just love this lens....it's wonderful. It's silent, fast, really compact and sharp as a tack. And I only paid £131 for it, which in photographic terms is a bargain. I used to go fishing, and hated carrying too much gear, it spoiled the day for me. Well, I found the same with photography, I try to travel as light as possible, and this lens on my Canon 700D is a perfect combination.Just buy it, I very much doubt you will regret it.

What a lovely lens, sharp, small. discreet and with a large aperture of F2.8. On my 200D it's brilliant for street photography and weighs a lot less than mirrorless cameras with fast autofocus as well. Highly recommend this lens and the price on Amazon Prime was a lot less than anywhere else. Couldn't be more pleased.
analogue2003Fantastic lens for a fantastic price. I’ve been able to take some real great shots with this lens. I have a 700d body (nothing to write home about) but this lens coupled with shooting RAW has meant that my pictures have been worthy of advertising.Simply a must buy for anyone who needs to take decent-professional images.

Superb lens, and a no-brainer for crop-frame. Very sharp, extremely close focus distance which can generate decent bokeh. Fantastic low light performance. I've even used this to shoot landscapes with a full NISI filter rig. The results are spectacular. Probably the best walkabout lens for Canon crop-frame, and produces a 35mm field of view equivalent of about 40mm. You will not be disappointed.
