Helps Me Breathe
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I'm not 100% sure this has changed my life but my Coughing fits are down to nearly zero now. This year more than ever I've been suffering massive Coughing Attacks. I don't know weather there was more Pollen about or more Dog Dander/House Dust than usual?Or my COPD getting worse. So thought I'd try an Air Purifier, I chose this one because our Lounge is 40m2 and this Purifier is supposed to be able to cope with that. It's quite a big machine so you need to think where it's going to live. There's a Traffic Light warning system for Air Purity.....Red = Bad, Green = OK. Blue = Good.If I close all the doors and windows to my lounge and turn the Purifier on it will go through this sequence in about an hour. Then after about an hour of "Blue" air it will go Red and never go back to Green or Blue again unless I open the door and let some fresh air in?Maybe it's the Dog or the Sofa or whatever, but if I leave a door open to the rest of the House or Outside world I get Blue or Green again.I should add that I've had a change in medication about the same time as getting this machine so it may be a combination of the two that has made my breathing better.During the last few mini heatwaves it was nice to have a bit of cool air off this Purifier. The Filter Warning light has just started coming on, but if it helps me breathe I don't mind buying a couple of filters a year.

My wife suffers from a complaint due to a previous virus infection that left her with breathing difficulties. I bought three of the AC150s as opposed to the AC100, as I assumed that the AC150 has a larger fan (manufacturers are awful at providing proper specifications on which to make buying decisions) and would therefore have additional 'capacity' at the low speed to filter the room air. I had a slight scepticism about the efficiency of air purifiers generally but I came to the conclusion that this represented about the best value for money: small ones were a waste of time and the every expensive ones (many hundreds of pounds could not do a much better job). Frankly, I feel that I could build even one of the AC150s for a £100 (£20 air filter, £50 fan, etc), so purifiers are outrageously priced. But, unless you haver the time to build your own or are willing to wait for the Chinese to start manufacturing and setting the market price, there is little choice.

My experience has been good overall. The air quality detection system does seem to work. When my wife sprayed some hair spray near it, the unit went to 'amber' and the fan speed to maximum. For some reason, she goes to bed with the light on blue and then, when she awakens (when the sun rises?), the fun is on maximum with the indicator on amber. So far, the pre-filter has not caught anything - it is quite a wide mesh and I think that it would only be good for hair.

Now a couple of irritations (DeLonghi, are you reading this?). I would like to put this on a timer. There are some very sophisticated electronic ones in which you get set the time of day for different days, etc. Unfortunately, this will not work, as the machine has to be switched on manually. The second thing is the recommendation that the unit is placed about three feet away from a wall. I assume that this so that any dust blown out (particularly when the ioniser is on, which has the main function of clumping particles and attracting them to surfaces) do not stain nearby w

This thing is great. I gave 4 stars because it is hard to feel "love" for something that costs this much and doesn't even get used all that much, but I do have to give it credit for doing its job really well. My nose was bunged up for a few months, figured it was dust in my room (I had building work a year or so ago and it never felt all that clean since, even after plenty of vacuuming and dusting). I also get hay fever so that doesn't help. Anyway I took a chance on buying this, and left it running overnight for a few nights on low speed. My nose cleared up and feels great now. I went a month or two without using it and then one night I felt bunged up again as I was trying to sleep, so I turned this on again and had another good night, and have been another month or so with a clear head.I wondered if this was really worth the money seeing as I spent about £220 for something I've only used for about 5 nights in the past several months... I also wondered if my nose cleared up by itself and if it was just a coincidence, but it's just that both times my nose cleared up quickly after using this machine so I have to assume it is doing the job.I feel less nuts about spending that much money when I think about the quality of thing too. It looks nice, very tidy, and on the low setting it is quite quiet. It is a similar volume to my PC, and I spent a lot of time and effort making sure my PC was as quiet as possible with almost-silent-120mm fans. I think this air purifier works so well because it probably has one huge fan inside, so it doesn't have to spin at very high speeds to push out a lot of air. The air flow is really good too, if you put your face over the exit, it feels like a gentle breeze on the low setting. On high speed it pushes out so much air, it feels like putting your head out of the car window at 30-40mph. The high speed is louder and yet it still isn't too loud. It might keep up a light sleeper but the sound is so consistent and it doesn't have any ticks or rattles or high pitch noises or anything so I c

Yay a dust mite colony for my bedroom!I got one of these about 2 months ago and found it useful for a dust allergy - but probably not in the way they expected.Firstly this thing doesn't significantly reduce the quantity of dust and mite dung in the air in a room, and you can tell that because 2 months later there is just as much dust as ever settled on the furniture, and only a little pinch of the stuff on the filter.I suspect the volume of air inside a room is just of a different order of magnitude to the throughput that any sort of portable filter would ever have - it's up against a similar challenge to a person trying to blow up an airbed the size of a room. The other thing is that with the best will in the world the inlet and outlet are probably cycling the same air round between them a lot of the time. For clearing the air in a room, having used one of these, I would say it's better to just open the window and let a few thousand cubic tonnes of atmosphere do the work. What DeLonghi's device did do for me though was to blow dust-free air over my face at night which really helped me get to sleep without coughing. After half an hour of staring into the outlet vent, the horrible, continual coughing that might have been going on for hours since getting home in the evening subsided as if it had never been there. Brilliant. Almost worth the money. That did necessitate putting the machine on its back at a funny angle on a chair next to the bed so that the outlet vent pointed in the right direction.Whether the filters cost £5 or £20 or are completely unavailable, there is also the fundamental problem that they should always have been washable since otherwise the product was always just going to be a heaving perpetual waste of money. I probably would have been better off sleeping in a DIY dust mask, since you can get a good one of those for less than the cost of the filters on this thing.Filtering flying chunks of mite dung out of the air is probably not the way. The best thing I'm finding is a carpet cleaner, wet wipes

Size:4 Level

Product Description

The AC150 Air Purifier from De’Longhi is designed to improve the air around you with 4-level Filtration (large filter) and ioniser, reducing your exposure to house dust mite, cat/dog allergen, pollen, fungi and cigarette smoke. The 3 fan speeds allow you to get the right setting for your home, making it easy to use and customise. The AC150 can be useful for people who suffer from allergies and asthma and helps get rid of tobacco smoke and lingering particles in your home. The HEPA Filter is effective against dust particles as small as 0.3 micrometre in diameter and it also has a washable and re-useable pre-filter.

The large ioniser neutralises particles of dust, pollen and smoke contained in the air, while the Carbon Filter is effective against various harmful gasses, smoke and odours, thanks to the properties of active carbons. Depending on personal preferences the ioniser function can be turned on and off. It is recommended that the HEPA Filter is replaced every 720 hours of use, equivalent to around 6 months of normal use. The colour changing LED indicator shows when the air has been purified and automatically tests the air when it is on.

The Air Quality System (AQS) constantly samples the air while the machine is on. The colour LED indication provides intuitive feedback on the air quality. When the Gas and Odour Sensor captures an increased level of particles of smoke and gas, the fan accelerates to clean the air quickly and more efficiently.

The large Tio2 Filter with UV light is very effective against bacteria and viruses. The UV light has the ability to destroy the cells of the particles that are collected by this photo-catalyst filter.

The AC150 operates quietly at between 33 and 48 dB (A) meaning that it can be used during the night without disturbing your night’s sleep, as well as having low energy consumption at the minimum fan setting. The elegant sensor touch control panel is intuitive and easy to use and the filter dirty indicator means you don't have to second guess when the filter needs cleaning.

The AC150, like all the Delonghi Air Purifiers is 100% certified, awarded the British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval.
