I have the Canon M50 mirrorless camera. Canon’s dedicated lenses for the camera though well made, are limited in some ways, most notably but their relatively slow apertures. That hasn’t stopped me enjoying them, but I was hoping Canon would bring something new out. Sigma have beaten them to it, and then some!I already own the 16mm sigma AF DC DN lens and thats amazingly sharp and crisp. The 56mm is just as good. Given the APS-C element and the canon 1.6 crop factor the 56mm becomes effectively a 90mm F/1.4 lens, which is great as a dedicated portrait lens. It’s the main reason I bought this lens and I have used it a few times already and it does not disappoint. It’s a great ‘low light’ beast, yet, its physical form is so deceptively small (especially compared to its 16mm sister)The build quality is excellent too, it doesn’t feel ‘plastic’ at all. It forms part of their contemporary lenses family as denoted by the little silver ‘C’ on the camera body. I have been fortunate to use several sigma Art lenses, the big brothers of the contemporary line and I can tell you, the quality and build of the contempory lenses is just as good. This lens is bitingly sharp with excellent contrast. The auto focus is just as good, in my opinion, as the dedicated Canon lenses I have, I havent noticed any reduced speed at all.If you are in the market for a new lens for your Canon M series camera, thats not going to break the bank, that will actually out perform the canon lenses for the M series, then you definitely should consider this lens.Finally... Image Stabilisation. No, this camera doesnt have it. The camera body has internal IS which can be switched on. Bloggers wouldn’t generally use this lens to vlog with anyway unless you were using it to get some awesome b-roll. If you were looking for that, then consider a gimbal, or simply learn to use the lens better. It’s definitely doable without IS with this lens.
C. ChristieThis is the third lens in the Sigma Trio of lenses for the Canon M Mount rated at F1.4 and as such produces wonderful images. I have been using this lens for some of my filming for my YouTube channel Roving Chestnut and it has worked well for normal daytime filming, low light filming and Slo Motion filming. I have also used this lens on both the Canon EOS M50 and Canon EOS M6 mk2. The results I have been getting make my filming look the best it has ever been!
