Very versatile lens for all types of photogrphy.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I love this lens. I used it to shoot a friend's wedding and it's versatility was great. I know professional reviews say that like most zoom lenses it has faults in the accuracy of reproduction, but these are not hugely noticable to the naked eye and most abberations can easily be fixed in Lightroom or similar post processing software if it bothers you. Colour repro. is top class in my opinion. One thing the zoom ring is quite heavy to use but it does stop the lens self zooming due to gravity. In any case, you soon get use to it when you get photographing. It comes with lens caps and a hood as shown. I am amatuer photographer of many years I only have modest kit but this lens gives me the ability to raise my game. Reccomended.

Fantastic Lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a beautiful lens that produces sharp sharp images with great contrast, colour rendition and bokeh. The 'C' lens is a huge step forward from the previous lens. Well done Sigma. Out of 14 Nikon fit lenses, this standard zoom as been the favourite for my Nikon d 7200. Perfect shots every time and the lens doesn't just look good, it feels good too. I thoroughly recommend this Sigma 17 70 'C ' Zoom Lens.

Excellent quality lens for the money!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this as a gift for my partner as an upgrade to the kit lens that came with her Nikon D5500 and she is very impressed. Although the kit lens was good, the Sigma is significantly clearer, with the pictures showing much more detail - especially in the distance of landscape shots where the kit lens struggled a bit. Macro shots are quite spectacular and the auto-focus is very fast and pretty accurate, but can be easily switched to manual mode if needed. The attached picture is a simple shot taken with automatic settings for reference. We unfortunately had to send the first Sigma lens back because there was a small amount of dist actually inside it when it arrived, however Amazon resolved the issue quickly and the replacement is perfect. This lens does use quite a lot of power (presumably the auto-focus) so it is worth investing in a second battery. One battery generally lasts for a day of moderate use - perhaps 100 or so shots.

Great all round lens for general photography
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is an upgrade of my 18-55 Canon kit lens. Key selling points were the extended range 17-70mm and with F2.8-4. I'm using the lens on my Canon 750D which I use for comms/social media work. F2.8 at 17mm is also useful for astrophotography. The lens arrived in Sigma packaging, it feels well built and looks great. My expectations of photo quality were somewhere between kit lens and L-series quality (the extra range was my key requirement). I'm very pleased with the results. See the attached photo (taken at 70mm, F4, 1/800 sec, ISO 160).I'm happy to give the lens 5 stars. I would definitely recommend it as an upgrade to a kit lens.

May be the reason I won't switch back to Nikon, because I fell in love with this beauty
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Great lens, arrived in a blink of an eye to my location, Portugal and on top of that is so worth every single buck you pay for it as an upgrade to a kit lens. It's super sharp when you set the aperture narrower than f/8 and the 70mm of focal lenght really can come in handy. The only con however, which in my opinion isn't such a problem, is how it drains the camera's battery faster than any Nikon lens since unlike them, the autofocus engine keeps running for a minute long after the last, time you presa the shutter halfway down to focus. But like I sayd, not to worry, just gotta keep the spare batteries charged up and even like that a single one is enough for a whole day out shooting street.

Amazingly sharp lens, miles better than the highly rated 18-55 Nikon kit lens. The second photo is a crop of the first photo.

I Love this lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I Love this lens. This is my second copy. I sold the first one to finance the purchase of the Canon 15-85mm lens but came back to the Sigma for the simple reason that it was a better lens IMHO in all respects. The build and handling appealed to me more and, dare I say it, the image quality pipped the Canon. Colours are more vibrant and low light performance is impressive. The Sigma is over £200 cheaper and is now the walkabout lens for my Canon 750d. I will not be swapping again.

Brilliant Lens - Different League to Kit lens - Big improvement
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Purchased for a Canon 600D - it's a great lens. I bought it to replace the 18-55mm kit lens and it's in a whole different league, the quality of images is far superior - depth of field, sharpness, colours are more vibrant - it beats the kit lens in every aspect. The macro ability is very impressive too, especially with being able to zoom in at 70mm.I spent a great deal of time researching and reading reviews, considering Canon 24-70, 24-105 L lenses, as well as the Sigma 17-50. I ruled out the Canon lenses due to their price and not wanting to lose the wide angle of 17-24 - better on a crop sensor, despite having a wide angle lens 10-18mm. I ruled out the Sigma 17-50 as I didn't want less focal length to play with and although it has a constant aperture of 2.8 I was happy to give this up. Part of the decision was due to my other lenses a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the Canon 10-18mm. Knowing I have the 50mm 1.8 helps make up for the varying aperture of this 17-70.The lens comes with a lens hood and front and back caps. I read lots of reviews saying this lens isn't sharp at the edges, but have seen no such issues - compared to my 50mm 1.8, 18-55mm kit lens and 10-18mm this appears to be producing the best photos overall.

Overall very pleased, ok it doesn't have quite the focal range
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Bought this to go with my Nikon as I was dissatisfied with the images on the Nikon 18-105mm I had been using. Overall very pleased, ok it doesn't have quite the focal range..but the pictures I have taken are clear and sharp with vivid colours. Overall very pleased with the quality for the price. Only one niggle, the lens hood does not lock into place that firmly, as a result it can come loose in the process of taking photo's. If it even moves a short amount it obstructs the corners of the image.

Awesome Lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

After researching the butt out of the Nikon D5200 the choice came down to a combo with the 18-55mm kit lens or the camera body and this lens. I concluded that if I got the combo kit I would need to buy a prime 35 or 50mm lens for portraits, however the majority of reviews I read on the internet showed how well this lens takes portrait pictures and zooms to 70mm a real all in one lens except for sport or telephoto shots. I got the body and this lens for roughly the same price as the kit lens plus prime 35 or 50mm and Wow what a lens! I can use the camera without having to lens swap for 90% of what I photograph, I just love it. I am really glad I bought this lens.

Product Description

With its wide zoom range, this lens has a focal range equivalent to 25.5-105mm on a 35mm camera. Thanks to Sigma's latest technologies, it's exceptionally lightweight and 30% more compact by volume than previous lenses of its type. Its low F-number equips photographers to shoot subjects at extremely close range, making this the perfect lens for travel, family photos, artistic compositions, and many other uses. It's a compact lens ideal for everyday use, offering uncompromising optical performance, functionality, quality, and elegance.

Contemporary line can handle all sorts of photo opportunities Sigma is organising all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines; Contemporary, Art and Sports. Featuring the very latest technology, and combining optical performance with compactness, the Contemporary line covers a wide range of needs. Incorporating the very latest technology in these lenses, Sigma has solved the difficult problem of keeping size and weight low without compromising optical performance. The SIGMA 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM is the first product from the Contemporary line. Featuring a wide zoom range, the lens has a focal range equivalent to 25.5-105mm on a 35mm camera.

Excellent for macro photography This lens' minimum focusing distance is 22cm and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.8. At 70mm, the working distance becomes 5.52cm. When it comes to telephoto, it can shoot pictures with a similar sensation to a macro lens. Also, without the need to change the lens, it enables photographers to take close up pictures of subjects such as jewellery and flowers. In order to secure a clear field of view, the design of this lens is very throughout, even down to the precise position of the engraved letters on the lens.

30% smaller than conventional models For a lens which is used used in everyday situations, the small size makes a big difference. By incorporating a smaller OS unit and optimising the structure and power distribution of optical elements, the lens barrel has now become more compact. In order to ensure high accuracy of the product, the new compound material TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has high affinity to metal parts, is introduced for the lens barrel. It results in better durability of the parts and smaller zoom rings and scale rings. The dimension of this lens is 30% smaller than our conventional models.

Superior image quality throughout the entire zoom range This lens incorporates 2 FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, 1 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element and 3 aspherical glass lenses including a double sided aspherical lens. By optimizing the power alignment of the lens, both chromatic aberration of magnification and axial chromatic aberration have been corrected. From infinity to macro, it achieves superior image quality through entire zoom range. This lens offers extraordinary expressive power and is capable of surpassing the requirement of the rigorous checking process of our new MTF measuring system “A1”.

Large maximum aperture of F2.8 The aperture value is F2.8 at the wide end (17mm), and is F4 at the telephoto end (70mm). The bright viewfinder aids focusing and composition of images. The fast apertures also offer useful functions such as fast shutter speeds to prevent an object from being blurred and ensuring a smooth bokeh in the background.

Optical Stabiliser Sigma's own unique OS (Optical Stabilizer) function is incorporated. It offers effective correction of approximately 4 stops, which makes it possible to compensate for camera shake even in macro range photography where a small blur can be easily identified.

Flare and ghosting conscious design In order to achieve high rendering on this flagship lens, flare and ghosting were thoroughly measured from an early stage to establish an optical design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.

Rounded diaphragm The 7 blade-rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

Hyper Sonic Motor Sigma’s Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) delivers high AF speed and extremely quiet performance.

Ease of use The new product lines incorporate rubber for the attachment part of the provided lens hood. For better usability, the design of the lens cap and AF / MF changeover switch has been improved.

Newly developed “USB DOCK” exclusively for new product lines Based on these new lines, we have developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.
