still not as smooth as the 85 but still really good
Amazon CustomerI have owned 2 of these lenses, the first one was excellent, really sharp and well made. The second one I had (the one that I am reviewing now) is nowhere near as sharp. It went straight into my box of primes and came with me on a few jobs, but was never used until a few days ago. And I couldn't get it anywhere near as sharp as the last one I had! I know that in manufacturing, things are made to a certain tolerances, but this is a totally different lens to the first one... Check it over carefully when it arrive, as I left it too long to evaluate and am outside of the return period, so am kicking myself that I didn't look at it sooner! Sorry for the low review, it isn't how I feel about this lens when you get a good one, but is how I feel about the one I received second time around...
benThe Samyang 35mm T1.5 Lens with geared, manual focus and aperture control rings, is optimized for digital cinematography. The aperture ring has been "de-clicked" for smooth iris pulls, and depth of field markings provide an essential aid to focus pullers. Optically, this lens is identical to the Samyang 35mm f/1.4, which is known for its excellent sharpness, contrast and bokeh.
A hybrid aspherical lens and multi-layer coating produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. There is slight vignetting at T1.5 on full-frame sensors but this is almost non existant by T2.0, and APS-C or MFT sensors will probably never see it. The 35mm lens focuses as close as 12" (30.48 cm) from the lens. A bayonet mount, petal-type lens hood is also included.
