Excellent lens value for money and weight.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I used to shoot with the Samyang 14mm F2.8 (Canon 6d body) and later a Sigma 14mm F1.8. I tested the lens in real world situations under different temperature settings (from -10c to 20c for landscape). I was also carrying the super heavy Sigma 14mm F1.8. The sigma was good for Auroras and timelapses (is a faster lens, but autofocus pretty useless). The Samyang is not as bright but the sharpness and colour transmission have nothing to envy to the sigma. And if you ask me which one I put on my bag? The Samyang all the time. The images captured with the Samyang have more contrast and a lot easier to edit, and lacks the little angels that the Sigma shows int the corners. And the stars look more realistic. So it all depends on what sort of photography you do. I can certainly recommend it.

A lot of problems but good potential
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

If you're looking at this lens then you are probably already aware of the problems frequently reported with some Samyang lenses. Straight out of the box and at room temperature this lens was sharp, especially when stopped down to f2.8. However, it only achieved focus at infinity (long distance subjects such as landscapes and stars) right near the hard stop on the focus ring. This was okay at room temperature, but as soon as it gets colder, my copy of the lens could not achieve infinity focus. After a lot of testing, results were unacceptable if using the lens in conditions below approx. 8 degrees C. At 0 degrees C the results were poor with very soft focus with long distance subjects.

Temperature affects lenses and changes how they focus, hence why most lenses have a range in the infinity zone to allow use in different conditions. Amazon were great and replaced the lens but the next one had the same issue, maybe slightly worse so perhaps they were from the same production batch. The 2nd copy was also slightly decentered so one side of the pics was always slightly soft. Given that this is a 'premium' lens with a premium price, such quality control issues really aren't acceptable (not to me anyway). The 2nd copy was also returned and I'm unlikely to waste my time with Samyang again. I know people with a good copy (and others with bad copies) of this lens and personally, I don't think it's worth the risk and hassle of getting a bad one.

Not included in my rating of the lens, but worth mentioning as extra information. The UK distributor and Samyang themselves did offer to try and fix one of them but despite seeing the problem at temps below room temperature they were unable to fix it (despite having it for months). They also sent it back damaged, with scratches that weren't there when I sent it and the box badly beaten up. There was also significant damage to screws where they had dismantled the lens but any competent/professional lens repair service should not be damaging someone's lens in such a way.

Very sharp - almost perfect.

Well built and very sharp at f2.4. Flaring is a bit of an issue.
