Simply great.
PavlinaThe only problem I have with this camera is that the internal mic is low quality and there is no input for an external one.
Judy ShepherdI found this camera used in Amazon Warehouse. I'm pleased with myself that I thought to look there, because this camera takes really good photos. It's built well, take good low-light pics, and the battery life is pretty good. It also takes video, which my last camera didn't do.
My mother was ill and dying and I needed to go home. I wanted to take some last photos, and of course I wanted a reasonably good camera. My budget was quite low (as it always is with me). I was hoping to find a decent camera for about £200-£250. Dream on. I did a lot of research and realised that I was doomed, because I was going to have to pay more like £600-£800 for a decent mid-range camera.
Then I came across this camera for £385. Ok, it was used, which made be a bit hesitant, and that price was already more than I could afford to spend, but it was sold and distributed by Amazon, so I took my chances. And I'm glad I did! Even just point-and-shoot snapshots turn out brilliantly. Very sharp and clear, with rich colours. They look like the results of a much more expensive camera.
I'm not a camera or photography expert, but I do know quality photos when I see them, and I love this camera. I know people like to talk on and on about features, settings, sensors, handle-ability, etc, but the bottom line for any camera is 'Does it take excellent photos?' and yes, this one does.

AnnieHave this camera 12 months now. Bought it for family events as the DSLR is not always practical.A fantastic piece of kit. Very sharp, with great detail in the photos.Tends to hunt a bit in low light, but that’s about he only complaint.
Eamonn BolgerLast year, in a fit of perceived wealth, I bought a Nikon Coolpix A10. It cost £120 and was a rather pretty heap of junk. Nothing was ever quite in focus, and the colour balance was a mess. So, having used Canon cameras for many years, I looked round for something better. Here are the good things about this camera:The pictures are absolutely lush. 12mp doesn't sound much nowadays, but I think it's the 1.5 inch sensor that counts. Focussing and colour balance are always perfect. The automatic setting does nearly everything I want. The manual settings do everything else. The settings are mostly easy to use. They aren't intuitive. But long experience has finally convinced me of the wisdom to RTFM with any new piece of electro-junk. Do that, and you'll get the best out of the camera. It shoots in RAW as well as JPG. I don't much use this, and find jpegs quite good enough for my purposes. Indeed, I can't see much difference at the higher settings which I always use. But it's worth having. I may one day find it useful.Battery life could be better, but it's good enough - especially if you buy a spare and keep one charged. Here is what I don't much life about it:It's rather big and heavy - mind you, I was aware of that before I bought it, so can't complain. Ignore this moan. The wireless settings are too fiddly to bother with. I download pictures via USB, and will eventually buy a remote shutter control. If the video is wonderful, the audio is utter crap. It was better on a much cheaper Canon I bought in 2010. It's better on my Samsung Galaxy mobile telephone. It was better on that otherwise useless Nikon. Black marks for Canon here. An expensive and generally wonderful camera, and useless for shooting video. There may be some way of lashing up an external microphone via the USB port. If there is, I haven't found it yet on the Web.So here is my reasonably impartial and semi-informed review of the camera. I'm glad I bought it, though wish I were rich enough to upgrade to the G1x Mark III.Oh, and here are some pictures I took th
Dr. S. I. GabbThis is a great camera. When usef with a bit of flash the colours pop. Produces raw files that are easy to work. A great day out camera, for when you want to lesve the canon 5d mkiv at home.
D. J. CorganLens good.Did not like the crude screen operation
MR B W BIDDISCOMBEBought the G1X Ii just over two years ago and have been very happy with performance and features. Picked it up to use a week ago and when I moved the reticulate do screen to a horizontal position, the camera shut down, leaving the lense extended out of the body. I cannot believe that this camera has only lasted two years. I have had canon cameras for nearly 50 years now but it seems that manufacturing standards or design have slipped. Maybe it's time I tried another brand ! Very disappointed.
TritonA splendid camera. So many functions but the buttons are tricky to use. They get in the way of others. I do want to keep the camera but it is difficult to grip. It is heavy for such a small camera and it is not balanced. The thumb grip for the right hand is small so it either tends to causes one's hand fatigue or the thumb fouls the adjacent buttons. The parcel delivery was swift and too the £35 bonus. thank you very much. Brian H
B. R. HendricksFirst I didn't buy this from Amazon but I paid same price of £449. I also use m4/3 Olympus E-P5 and was thinking of getting a 12mm prime lens, trouble is that would have cost over £500. Checked the new reduced price of this camera the G1X ii and for £100 less, I get a larger sensor, and a fast 24-120mm equivalent zoom. The lens is a cracker and the Canon colours are superb and I am over the moon with the quality of this camera. It's a little heavy but I have the euro version which has a grip making it easy to hold. Some reviews have bemoaned the fact that the wifi button is too near the rear thumb rest and gets pushed too easily. I don't have that problem but I do sometimes put the camera into manual focus accidentally as that button is just underneath the thumb rest. The control ring is excellent and generally the ergonomics are good. I bought the camera for the image quality primarily and for the convenience of just having one camera with me, so far I am very happy with the results.
analogue2003Excellent camera. Took a little while to get used to as I've always used Nikon. Sharp photos with some great little extras!
CharlieAn excellent camera for both beginner and advanced user with a 5 times zoom. Easy to handle. Good value.
concertinaI got this camera this morning and initial impressions are very good. The thing you notice first is the massive lens. This is to serve a large sensor inside the camera. The reason to have a large sensor is to be able to keep objects in the foreground sharp while blurring the background. This is to place the emphasis on the foreground. The first of my sample images shows this effect. However, it would be unfortunate to not be able to get rid of the background blur when you don't want it. Unfortunately, the Program and Auto modes tend towards setting a fast shutter speed and a large aperture, which would lead to background blur. So for my next three sample images, I selected the Aperture Priority mode and set the Aperture to f/16 (which is the smallest aperture on this camera). In these, the background is sharp.Another noticeable feature of the camera is the tilt view screen. This allows you to tilt the view screen up through 180 degrees, in this position you can take selfies (the camera turns the image the right way up). You could also tilt the screen up through 90 degrees which would be handy for shooting from a low angle. You can also tilt the view screen down 45 degrees, which would be handy at a rock concert, to hold the camera above the heads of the crowd. One of the best features of the G1X mark II is that it can store the photos it takes in RAW format. It would be sensible to use this as the JPEG format loses detail each time you save it. RAW doesn't. In addition, you can adjust the exposure of a RAW image by +/- 3 stops without losing detail. Once you have done all the things that can only be done in RAW, you can convert the image to TIFF format for editing in layers.I was a bit surprised that I didn't get a software disc or an AV or data cable in the box. Luckily, I had previously bought another Canon camera so I had the leads and software already. But it would be a bit hard luck on a first-time buyer. I had to upgrade Canon Digital Photo Professional to the latest version to get it to read the RAW files, t
Mr. Martin HoultonThis camera is amazing. I had a DSLR but i found it too big and cumbersome whats with all the accompanying lenses. this struck the balance between form and function for me.

Al RichardsonA seriously well specified compact camera that produces simply superb files for it's size.As a happy G1X owner I was looking to see if the next model would improve upon the first and it does. Not only with the wider, longer, faster, sharper lens, but also in usability. You can set the camera up in all sorts of ways to adjust settings on the fly, with a full time histogram for exposure (or not as you please). The two rotating lens dials are just brilliant once you've set them up.It's not a camera for beginners, it's complex to get the best out of your RAW files and the camera is really not small or pocketable (but neither was version 1, which was actually lighter) but for a dslr quaity camera with a superb zoom range it's the best out there by a long way. It's a huge shame it hasn't a built in accurate viewfinder though.
Kindle CustomerPerhaps the best camera I have ever owned. Although not as full featured as my SLRs, but because it is very portable and easy to take with me anywhere. It still has light sensitivity, accuracy and most of the speed of my APC-based SLRs. The highly flexible display on the back makes it easy to take pictures from weird angles. The pop-up flash is the best of any built-in flashes I have ever used.I still use my SLRs, but I am more likely to take the G1Xmk2 on business trips and I even pack a Gorilla tripod taking minimal space in my suitcase or backpack. It's less of an embarrassment to my family members who get tired of me trailing along with my Canon 6D with a 20-70mm L lens. I sometimes also take the small lightweight MeFoto Q1 carbon tripod.I know some have said that the controls are fiddly. But you find the controls that work for you, set up the key knobs and dials for those controls and then it is not fiddly, but really easy. I tend to shoot with Aperture priority most of the time, but use Time priority for low light shots. Both generally work out well with the very wide ISO range. The higher ISO ranges are not quite as good as my SLRs.As someone once told me, the best camera is the one you have with you. This could be your best camera as well because you love photography and you are likely to have this small, lightweight camera with you will all the controls you want with few compromises. For the rest of the time you either have your SLR or your iPhone.
TaplowBought this for my daughters birthday and she loves it. Picture quality is fab and the size of the camera is smaller than previous and more manageable.
ChristineExcellent piece of kit which has travelled around the world with me for 12 months without fault. With a 64 GB SD card the 128 GB combo carries more than enough entertainment to keep me occupied on long flights. The Android App and interface are adequately fast couldn't be easier to use; battery life is good for many hours between charges, the wifi signal is good over several metre, video streams without stuttering and it weighs next to nothing so fits in a shirt pocket imperceptibly.Very happy customer
