Bought this to get some pictures of the moon and it really is amazing at it! I am not a pro so i can't speak on the features but it does what i need it to (film and photo the moon) in great detail.
zackThe zoom is what this camera is all about and probably the reason you want to buy it. The image stabilization on both stills and video is very good. The camera is by no means compact, but it's not to large or heavy either. Having owned a DSLR previous this camera puts up a good fight against it. I would definitely recommend buying if a powerful zoom is what you're after.
IanI have only just got my P900, and am getting excited about taking it out and experimenting with it, it looks quite easy to follow instructions, picture quality is great, and I love the 83x zoom, can have some fun with that, the only cons are, it's a bit on the heavy side, but thats because of the zoom lens, and it doesn't have a hot shoe pot for external flash.
migsjeepcompared to cameras twice or more expensive this beats them all in zoomed picture quality...needs a bit of photoshop after but great clear results. plus very well built
Steve howardI like how this camera is easier to use than a full DSLR this bridge camera does a good job for those of us that don't use cameras professionally, it give good results in good light but can be quite bad in low light situations.
PaulThe camera once set up offers so much for value and brilliance of the images taken so far, the moon and its craters, blew me away with it magnificence and beauty. The colour range when photographing Parakeets and detail of the greens and red bill. I am an amateur and this gives professional images, the stability control reduces camera shake. It ticks all the right boxes for the positive results seen so far. The only minor let down, the instructions, after reading another review I down loaded the Kindle version offered for £6.70 for the 'photographer's guide to the Nikon coolpix' P900 book, wrote in a very down to earth way and one you can pick up and get straight in to having fun with the camera and its settings.
K. R. WestonI just got this yesterday so not had time to use it properly I just went through some functions on it to familiar myself with it.So far it's so quick to lean all the functions and the zoom on it is veeat.I'll update my review when I get a chance to use it more .
Mark LewisLove the flexibility and capabilities of this cameras zoom See the moon close up!!
ChuckBought looked good and easy to use.love it
tannHave really enjoyed using this camera. Bought it specifically for a hiking holiday in Yosemite and some other National Parks and have no regrets whatsoever. I’m still learning all the intricacies but would highly recommend it for good quality amateur photography
Norfolk farmerHaving used Nikon digital DSLR cameras for the last few years, I was looking for a bridge camera that I could take that would be a good all round camera. After reading the reviews of the P9000, I decided I would buy this and I can say that I wasn’t disappointed.
The camera is easy to use, the picture quality is great and the zoom lens is fantastic.
The zoom takes a bit of getting used to when it used with a tripod, as it zooms in so far that it’s tricky to get the image that you want. But other than this I couldn’t find any fault with this camera, it offers all the flexibility that I have with my dslr and all my different lens, Although it doesn’t quite manage to be as good as my dslr, it just about manages and for travelling it ticks all the boxes.

John 63Although the camera has the quality expected from Nikon, it was a lot bigger and heavier than expected. After using it only a couple of times, it failed to download pictures to my laptop and would not respond to any "fixes". I decided to return it and purchase an alternative (Canon), which is much more compact and a lot lighter and more comfortable to use.
Ian RogersonI still have a long way to go with this camera the functionality is vast, however, I absolutely love it, and best of all, taking pictures of the moon - who would have thought that was even possible!!!
Patricia BrownReally like this camera. I am by no means an expert on these things but am impressed by the quality of the cameraIts a learning curve for me, so i can only say that I am getting to grips with it and enjoying the experience
meohmyIf it is a structure with large writing on it it is still readable at up to five miles away.I can take a picture of the shoreline on the far side of the Thames estuary, and that is five plus miles and still see things that you would have no chance of seeing with the eye's alone and structures that have a logo of some sort if it is big enough the camera can take a photo and I can read it easily.I even had someone ask me about the camera and how good it was and I think he to is looking to get one?
Andrew MathewsI'm a bit of a traditionalist, when it comes to cameras but decided to bite the bullet and get a bridge camera, that would cover most of the bases that I had targeted over 40 years. Welcome to the 21st century! I still love my old cameras.... but I am happy to say that the Nikon P900, is for me, the cats whiskers. A most remarkable gem of a camera.
CharlesAt first look it's like a p510 on steroids! Then the fun begins. The zoom of over 80x is stunning, smooth and clear. I think that the digital zoom becomes irrelevant. The new style screen is great, with flexible positioning.. Because of the massive zoom, the lens diameter is greater to let in more light whick is a good job! From seeing things in outer space down to a 1cm macro focusing, unless you are a professional photographer earning lots of money, this camera is fantastic. One camera bag, one camera and no extra attachments to lug around its great. The wifi connection is fiddly, but I'm sure practice will make it easier to use. All in all, this nikon p900 does everything I want and need. Well done nikon for producing a camera I would describe a 'more than a bridge'
Dave HReally pleased with this camera after upgrading from a Panasonic. OK it is a lot heavier but the zoom and stabilisation is awesome. All the attached images have been taken without a tripod so really no need to lug my even heavier tripod with me! Have not managed to activate wi-fi link as yet but it’s easy to transfer my photos using the Apple card reader. Have only managed to “hit” the wrong button twice, I noticed one reviewer was having trouble there! Have added a UV filter and lens hood which I will review separately. Plenty of useful “Scene” modes and for me a really good “Birdwatching” one which fires the shutter silently! Also a very good extra zoom on shots taken when selecting playback you can re-zoom and adjust and crop and the save the new image! Awesome! Am enjoying getting out and about with this camera so can thoroughly recommend.
New Edit 05/19 = Am still enjoying this awesome camera and still amazed with the superb zoom mainly used without a tripod. Sometimes I struggle to get a pin-sharp focus at the extreme end of the optical zoom. One really annoying thing is I constantly “hit” other buttons, particularly the video one, situated as it is right by the thumb indent. Just a small niggle really as these “unwanted” videos are soon deleted! I am viewing my images on a 55” UHDTV and overall extremely pleasing! I much prefer looking at my own shots than the TV programmes!

MartinKeen photographers of wildlife and the night sky will be delighted by the Nikon COOLPIX P900, which boasts an incredible 83x optical zoom, capturing details not visible to the naked eye
The astonishingly ultra-high-power optical zoom covers from 24mm to 2000mm and is extendable to 4000mm with Dynamic Fine Zoom, bringing the natural world closer than ever before and recording it in fine detail in both stills and Full HD movies. The large calibre f/2.8-f/6.5 bright lens is able to deliver crystal clear image definition at high resolution even when zoomed all the way out to 2000mm telephoto (35mm format equivalent).
Reaction time is fast, with high-speed AF and a reduced shooting time lag, plus hand-held telephoto shooting is exceptionally stable, thanks to the highly-evolved Dual Detect Optical VR (Vibration Reduction) which gives extremely effective blur reduction, equivalent to shooting at a 5.0-stop higher shutter speed2. This new high-performance VR improves vibration absorption by detecting movements from the lens (angular velocity sensor) and from the imaging sensor (motion vector information) simultaneously, enabling more accurate calculation of the amount of image blur and achieving greatly enhanced vibration reduction performance.
Flexible composition for fast-changing subjects is made effortless with the large 7.5-cm/3-in 921k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor (RGBW), plus the built-in electronic viewfinder makes it simple to alternate shooting styles, as an eye sensor automatically switches from display shooting when your eye gets close to the viewfinder.
Shooting locations can be tracked with pinpoint accuracy, as built-in GPS/GLONASS/QZSS international satellite systems provide fast and detailed information, wherever you travel around the world.
Sharing superb images is instantaneous with built-in Wi-Fi and NFC support, made simple by using the one-touch Wi-Fi button or just tapping the NFC-enabled camera to a smart device.
Shoot a level of detail you'd never thought possible with the 83x optical zoom, extendable to 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom, with a fast reaction time due to rapid AF and reduced shooting time lag. Never lose a fast-moving subject in the wild, thanks to a Snap-back zoom button next to the zoom control that will instantly help you recapture your subject by taking you back to wide-angle focus. Flexible composition with the large 7.5-cm/3-in vari-angle monitor - and the built-in electronic viewfinder - helps to adapt to challenging shooting situations, while smooth hand-held shooting for both stills and Full HD movies (1080/60p) is guaranteed with 5.0-stop Dual Detect Optical VR compensating for camera shake even at full ultra-telephoto. Full HD movies come with high-quality directional sound, as the Zoom microphone changes direction to match the operation of the zoom.
All the data needed to log your shooting locations is provided instantly and accurately via built-in GPS/GLONASS/QZSS support, no matter where you travel around the globe. Images can be shared instantly while you're on your travels too, courtesy of built-in Wi-Fi and NFC support, which makes staying social simple - just use the one-touch Wi-Fi button or tap the NFC-enabled camera to a smart device.
