A little disappointed
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I've upgraded my older Watson W-8681 & to start with everything has gone well. Unfortunately though the unit has been unable to keep connected to Wunderworld & so I have gaps in my readings. I've contacted the seller direct but I had a mixture of "check your router settings" & "The Wunderworld site often goes down" but they failed to accept that it has been working fine since installation at the start of this year, and other PWS's on the weather site have 100% records so they are not affected by any downtime. I will continue to monitor the situation & have not yet ruled out formally making a complaint through Amazon.

Just received Watson so this is a preliminary review. Neatly put together but casting looks cheaply made plastic. However most importantly the instruction Manual is complicated and badly written. Manual needs re-writing Watson Please Note! Will add to review when WS set up!

Had this weather station for 2 years now and it has been working perfectly without any problems, also have it linked to Wunder ground so able to see data on my phone anywear any time. Think that is all anyone could ask for.

Recent events has prompted me to write a review.Despite working fine for some time (1 year), it has now stopped reporting into the 'Weather Underground' service. This was one of the reasons I purchased it. After emailing Watson, I was told it is a problem with WU servers.Based on Watson's reply, I emailed WU a couple of times for help, but have not received a reply. It is strange as other stations around the country report in with no problems. Is it a problem isolated to the W-8681-PRO?

Frustrating
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

As others have found, temperature readings went haywire but Nevada replaced very quickly (good communication) however, the hardware stops broadcasting to the console whenever the weather gets stormy. I had thought it was due to the lack of sunny weather this summer (in Cornwall) affecting the solar charger but sometimes it works through the night. Very frustrating. On that basis, I can't recommend.

Works Great
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

First weather station I bought and went for this one after reading many reviews. This one offers more measured quantities than most of the alternatives in the same price bracket and provides a nice self-contained solution which is what swayed me. The other thing I liked is that the outddor unit recharges its batteries with a solar panel as I didn't want to be taking the pole down to replace batteries. Installation is pretty straightforward for anyone reasonably handy but remember you'll need to mount the outdoor unit somewhere high and clear to get the best readings so make sure you can do that or allow for someone to do it for you. A TV aerial wall bracket bolted to the wall just under the guttering and a six-foot cranked pole worked fine for me, £20 for the lot. Once the outdoor unit, indoor sensor and display panel were all installed I turned on the panel it detected the sensors and everything worked without having to mess around. In terms of range I have the display unit at the back of the house, the indoor sensor by the front door and the outdoor unit at roof height on an opposite corner and they all work fine, plus the connection from the display unit to the WiFi in the front room is fine also. To get the best from it and connect it to the internet and to Weather Underground you'll need to do some configuration on the display unit. The manual isn't brilliant but it gives you enough if you use your common sense and I got everything working OK in about 15 minutes. You can also go beyond that and set up alarms for various weather conditions, change the display options, set a timer for the display backlight and so on. I've only had it running just over a week but very happy so far and I'll add an update later as I can't yet comment on reliability

Almost a very good weather station
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Been looking for a good weather station to replace my Technoline WS-2350 whose wind transmitter failed on a regular basis (roughly every 12 months!). Was tempted by the Davis Vantage Vue but in my opinion that has a rubbish display, very amateurish for something that expensive. This seemed to be a good alternative and despite some mixed reviews I thought I would give it a try.

Installation and setup is pretty straightforward although the levelling bubble on top of the external sensor array is pretty useless if you are mounting it on a pole above your roof. Although the setup was easy the unit failed to lock onto the German DCF signal even after leaving it for over 24 hours and although it could see my wifi network it refused to connect to it. I contacted Nevada (who supplied it) and they were extremely helpful, they arranged to send a replacement system and collect the faulty one.

The replacement did see the network and connected easily and I was soon uploading data to Weather Underground. However, whilst monitoring this online it showed my station was updating every 15 seconds or so, presumably somewhere near the rate at which it receives data from the external sensors. I couldn't find any way of changing this as I would prefer to have something like once an hour. When your broadband runs at less than 1Mps you tend to get a bit paranoid about things clagging it up and so I have now disconnected it from Weather Underground. The replacement also doesn't get the DCF time signal which is strange because the Technoline did and this is fitted in exactly the same position. I've got a few other devices, including my wrist watch, which also use this signal and this is the only device that doesn't lock onto it. Also it has lost the wifi connection a couple of times and the only way to reconnect it is to switch the console off and back on again after a few seconds.

On the plus side the display is very nice and well laid out although it would be nicer if there were proper labels rather than the icons. I

Works as expected, until last week, middle of March, then the outside temperature went crazy, -29.5 and the outside unit stopped working despite changing the batteries and resetting the unit. I've had no response from the suppliers so Amazon are dealing with it.

Great easy to use weather station.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The Watson W8681-Pro Professional II WI-FI weather station appears to be a well made unit that I found easy to setup and install onto a pole (Not provided). The sensor unit assembly was extreemly simple to put together with just the vane to put onto the top and a short mounting pole to put into the bottom. The last thing to do was to put the supplied rechargeable batteries into the main sensor unit and fit batteries into the indoor sensor unit.

The display unit is powered by a small mains adapter via a one-meter wire. I found it easy to setup and connect to my wi-fi and the internet weather server, Wunderground, though you do have to initially wait for your station account to be registered and populate with your weather data, be patient. The colour display is very clear to see and has good layouts, the buttons at the bottom allow you to set-up, adjust what screens are displayed and to alter the brightness.

In conclusion I've been very impressed with this system, two previos stations, each under half the cost, have let me down with the sensors failing after a short while. This new station has the feel of a unit that's going to give good service, though time will tell of course.

UPDATE
It’s now nearly two years since installing the station and apart from a couple of occasions when the rain sensor got stuck because of spiders getting in and building their webs over the sensor which stopped it moving. Unfortunately, for some reason the temperature and humidity sensors have suddenly stopped working with the display and website showing outside readings of 60deg C and 99% respectively.

I will now be contacting Nevada (the suppliers) to see what help they can give and I will report on here as to whether or not they could help me.

The W-8681-PRO-II is a professional wireless weather station with colour LCD display, robust sensors and wi-fi, and requires no connecting cable between the LCD monitor and the remote weather sensors. The range depends upon local obstructions but the150m range will satisfy most requirements. The time and date are locked to the German DCF longwave atomic standard signal (can be received from UK) so the time is always correct. This weather station offers amazing value and comes with everything you need to set it up in the garden. All hardware is included and the only items you need to supply are a short mast to attach the supplied stub mast and sensor assembly, and 2xAAA cells for the indoor sensor. The TFT colour LCD has 8 keys for easy operation and allows comprehensive adjustment and correction for your location. It can also display historic data and within the menu you can select imperial or metric values. It also features an alarm that can be triggered by data sensors in extreme weather conditions. You can even upload weather data to the internet automatically via Wi-Fi, or by transferring it to an MicroSD card.
