Taste of plastic during the whole first week of purchase.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Although I know Russell Hobbs to be a very good company, I was disappointed when after a whole week the coffee still smelled and worse, tasted of plastic.Used different kind of waters, tap and bottled, cleaned the filter and descaled it although this should not have to occur before at least a month (?).Reading the reviews (unfortunately after the problem) I discovered that other clients had had the same problem. Thus, what happened to that particular device?

Not exactly top quality
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this coffee make 2 years ago and it has served me well at work used once a day for 5 days a week. After a short time the descaling function stopped doing what it should and today 2 years and 4 days after buying it, it is no longer working.Reading other reviews it seems that I've been luckier than many in that theirs didn't even last that long, do we really live in a world where something as simple as a coffee machine can't be built to last many years?

Coffee Maker
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a replacement for the same model purchased just over two years ago. The older model intermittently started steaming up the room and produced only half the amount of coffee. All Russell Hobbs could offer was a 40% discount on a new coffee maker which would still be more expensive than Amazon's price. 0/10 for Russell Hobbs Customer Service.

Broke easily
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The coffee maker seemed sooo good first. Very tasty coffee. However, it broke in three days. It won't shut down, I must plug in/unplug it every time I use it. Also, if I don't keep the lid open after use, it is soaking wet even the next day. Very unhygienic. It leaks and makes weird clicking noises. I am very unhappy and trying to figure out how to return it.

Leaking hot water after two months
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Just like many other customers the machine stops working after two months of normal use. It’s leaking water from the bottom as soon as switched on. I want to contact the seller but there is no option!

OK BUT EXPECTED BETTER
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Bought as a replacement to our long serving Morphy Richards coffee percolator which lasted 11 years, this one unlikely to do so.First issue was the nasty taste and smell of plastic! this was after we washed it all through three times before use. After our first attempt to brew coffee once we had cleaned it through three times a dreadful offensive taste of plastic which you could also smell from the coffee itself. Took us a further six flushes of water to clear away both the smell and the taste of plastic in our coffee. It is unclear if the machine actually does anything when you press the buttons to enhance your coffee brewing as suggested on the user manual, it doesn't seem to do anything and the blue light only comes on the on button, no lights on anything else other than the lower light that shows the machine is on.The coffee remains heated for 30 - 40 minutes after brewing, you have to keep dashing back and forth to switch power back on or you end up with cold coffee, probably not ideal for the office environment and annoying around the home, especially if you forget. One good point is that the machine arrives with a handy scoop/spoon to measure the coffee you want to put in your machine, the spoon can then be rested/stored in a handy slot provided to the side of the machine, its a nice touch.

Very disappointed
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The machine worked great. For the first 3 weeks. Then it just stopped working. I have just about managed to order a replacement one. However, I would like to know who to speak to in advance of it breaking again. Even if it broke within a year, I would feel that this is not acceptable. A product should have some longevity in it, no matter how cheap it is.

Wonderful coffee, but not good durability
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This coffee maker does make excellent coffee, there is no doubt about that. However, after about 20 months it would no longer work. One day fine the next day nothing. I contacted Russell Hobbs and they replaced it under the 2 year guarantee. I was told at the time that the replacement would only be guaranteed up to the 2 year expiry of the first one, which meant just 3 months. Now, 14 months later the replacement one has been put in the bin because one day it worked fine the next day it wouldn't draw the water up properly and turned most of it to steam. I contacted Russell Hobbs because I wanted them to know that the replacement item hadn't even lasted as long as the first one. They offered me a 40% discount off a new one, but if I wanted another I could by it cheaper here on Amazon. I am very disappointed with this coffee maker's durability. You don't expect to have to buy a new one after less than 2 years, in both cases. This means that within 3 years I am on my 3rd machine (NOT Russell Hobbs!)

Broken after 6 months
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The coffee maker did what it was supposed to do, no frills. However, after about 6 months of using it, it has started leaking water. At first it was only a little bit, but now it leaks more than half of the water that we put into it. And since it has been six months, it seems that there is no option for returning the product or getting a replacement.

Does the job well.

It does everything I require of it, it is easy to use and clean. I recommend the use of paper filters to make cleaning very simple. Also I would like to say that Aldi’s Colombian coffee is superb!

Short-Lived
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

When it worked it was very good - quality coffee and stayed hot. However it has only lasted FIVE MONTHS before water started leaking / pouring out through the bottom of the reservoir and the entire contents ended up on the worktop, down the cupboards, in the drawers. Silly me - I hadn't realised that I couldn't leave it on its own to do its thing! This is a shame as RH products are generally very good. Can't recommend

Steam problem with this coffee maker!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I do not recommend this coffee maker. It produces a huge amount of steam that I have never experienced before with any other coffee maker I've owned. It shuts itself off way too soon. I have to use the paper filters because there are coffee grounds getting into the jug if I don't. Regret buying this coffee maker. The worst I have ever owned.

nowhere near as good as their previous version
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I had a Hobbs coffee maker for several years, which has just stopped working. It was simple and effective. This has lots of bells and whistles that I don't want or need (might as well add radio fm to a frying pan). It also has a lower capacity and switches off after 40 minutes! That's right, 40 minutes - and cools right down.

So whereas (for years) I was used to making one big pot which would keep hot for hours, whatever I was doing (didn't have to think about it) this makes a smaller amount and its a race to drink it all while its still luke-warm. Although given that I have a 40 minute window to drink it all, maybe the smaller volume is a blessing.

And for this loss of basic functionality over the older version, I had to pay a lot, lot more. It works as advertised, so I can't, in good faith, return it (ok, I didn't "read up" on it, I just bought it - didn't occur to me they would reduce the basic functionality, add unneeded stuff and charge a lot more for the package) so I'm now looking for a basic, cheap, coffee maker that does what this thing doesn't do: (1) make a decent sized pot of coffee (2) stay on, keeping the coffee warm until I decide to switch it off.

Style Name:Coffee Maker Only

Product Description

The Buckingham Coffee Maker uses Showerhead technology during the filtering process. This showers all of the coffee grains in the permanent filter, making sure that all of the coffee is used. Because more of the coffee is captured and dissolved, you enjoy a richer coffee flavour and less waste in filter. Whether you prefer intense or mild flavours this machine makes coffee just how you like it.
