The first Philips 58'' TV arrived with a really bad damaged screen. After phoning Amazon a replacement arrived 48 hours later and it was worth the wait. The picture is amazing and the sound is brilliant. A highly recommend the Philips 58'' TV. Well worth the money. This product is outstanding.Amazon was very understandingabout the issues with the first TV that arrived and a replacement was issued with outany problems. Obviously the damage was done in transit.Thank you Amazon. A job well done.

Nice TV, but...

I'm pretty much using this TV as a 'dumb' TV - it's not network connected, and I don't plug in an aerial or satellite. All my content comes via a long HDMI cable or from an old Wii. The sound comes out of Sonos, so I don't even use the speakers on the TV. For this purpose, this TV is pretty good. It takes a bit too long to 'start up' when you turn it on (about 10 seconds) and you have to look at a Philips logo while this all happens, but it's not an insurmountable problem.Things go wrong pretty quickly in the details though. I use a universal remote control to do all the switching on, selecting inputs and whatnot. Philips themselves confirm there are no infra-red commands to directly choose inputs - so I've bought a £20 HDMI switch to switch between the (upscaled) Wii or the regular TV inputs. It's a shame to have to use such a device when the TV has a load of HDMIs that now sit entirely idle. I did try getting the remote to "press" the "source" button and select the next input along and all that - but it's very unreliable. There isn't even a way to say "always start up on HDMI1" or "go to the first input in the list", so you're on a road to pain if you try to automate the TVs menus.Just in case anyone else makes the same mistake as me - there is no 'component' input on the TV. You're pretty much HDMI only (other than USB, I guess). You can buy cheap adaptors for an old Wii though.Elsewhere, the cheapness of the TV can be found in the legs. They're pretty cheesy plastic things, and they attach pretty much on the extreme ends of the TV. You have to go on a proper Internet hunt to find the spacing between them (sorry, can't remember exactly - it's about 880mm, so wider than the space I have available). Thankfully, the VESA mounting is available, so I had to use a £20 stand (beware, the VESA mounts are only 200mm apart, so if you put legs directly below them they'll be a bit narrow to support a TV nearly a metre wide!).The remote control feels a bit plasticy, hollow and clicky too. Perfectly functional, but just not

You won’t get any other TV this size for this price, but it comes at a cost...
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I took a risk here, as despite the great price for the size, Philips aren’t known for having great televisions, and at the time of purchase the TV had no reviews (likely as a result of it being a newer model) - The TV itself is a great build, and the picture/sound quality is fantastic, but that’s where the praise ends. The smart TV functions don’t function. Netflix and Prime video work, but none of the other on demand apps. This includes iPlayer, ITV player and 4oD. The apps show on the Home Screen, but nothing happens when you click on them, and they don’t even appear in the App Store. The menus are also pretty slow and clunky, and when you’re on a default screen it doesn’t have any indication it’s even on, so you just have a black screen that’s impossible to tell whether the device is on or off. You’ll be pressing the power button multiple times, turning it off when it’s on, or turning it on when it’s off, and will have to keep fiddling to find out what state it’s in.The app selection is pretty bare too, other than some terrible games and predatory movie rental apps. Hopefully it gets more support over the next few months. If you want this TV solely for Netflix and prime video then I’d give it 4 stars. But holistically, and if you want it for gaming, then I have to bump it down to a 3 star.It is a pretty great TV and value-wise it’s 5 stars. You’d never get a TV this size at this price by any other make (£430 at the time of purchase, July 2020) so it’s great if you want to save some money like I’ve had to.If you have any questions about the TV then let me know and I’ll try to help. Personally I wish I went for an LG/Samsung at a smaller size, but I’m not completely disappointed with what I did get.

Great picture!

The picture quality is superb, sound is good and everything works as you’d expect with a smart TV.I’ve decided to edit my early comment above after seeing some other ridiculous comments in other reviews....The apps do work perfectly well ... I’ve used iPlayer, All4, AmazonPrime, Netflix and have plugged in PS4 and Xbox and and not one issue. The TV applies it’s own updates and even automatically adds new digital channels. The picture and sound quality are still spot on and the remote works. The only small negative is that when you bring up the TV guide, it takes over the whole screen... Samsung have a feature where what you’ve been watching remains on the screen (top right corner).
