Excellent product, perfect for ambituous and creative photographers
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Got this 14mm Walimex ( originally manufactured and identical to Samyang) to complete my ''Walimex-Series'' and instead of paying way over the odds for the original Nikon equivalent).Although I have been working with Nikon for years ( since 78), I started looking at Samyang/Walimex after a few very positive reviews which all have turned out to be absolutely true. I now (besides owning a good two dozen of Nikkors of all ages and types - never gave a lens away I once bought) have the Walimex/Samyang 14mm 2.8, 24mm shift, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 135mm 2.0 for Nikon FX and a 8mm for APS-C.They all are of very high quality in build, finish and optical performance. Not one I bought has been ''off'' in any way as can happen (fluctuation in production) - probably I also was very lucky, but it also seems to show a good high level of Quality Control. All the Samyangs and Walimex' are made the old fashioned way like Nikon and canon built them years ago - there is a lot of glass and metal and therefore they are quite substantial in size and weight - nothing for people seeking super lightweight plastic lenses. The ''plastics'' used by Samyang are of high quality and you really have to look and feel hard what is plastic and what is metal - very sturdy and clean. very much like the last Series of the Nikon AI-S and E- Series.Optically they can compete very, very well with the big boys - for a lot less money. They have no AF - all manual. But they all do communicate by internal chip to the Nikon cameras ( tested on D7200, D610, D700, D800E ). Once you get used the manual focusing again it is a breeze and joy to work with theses lenses. If you are an fully automated ''aim and shoot'' photographer seeking a complete automatic system for fast photography without having to focus on any manual input - forget it - you probably won't be happy. But if you do dabble in good ''old fashioned'' manual photography which allows a lot more creativity and a good bit more thought for the Hobby and the theme - GET 'EM.... they are very good, fun and I

Manufacturer's Description

Benefit not only from a high-quality Lens with excellent speed, but also from the unique advantages from the built-in chip. Produce unique perspectives with the 14mm Wide Angle Lens from walimex pro! In comparison to normal standard lenses, Wide Angle Lenses are characterized through a huger picture angle, a shorter focal length and a bigger depth of field, which makes them ideal suitable for e.g. nature and architecture photography. The first-class manufactured Lens is an absolute “must-have” for every photographer and thanks to the attractive purchase price affordable for everybody.

Professional EXIF data transmission: The special delicacy on this Lens is the built-in chip, which is transmitting all technical EXIF datas to the camera during taking photos. Thus, you can read out all information just as shutter speed, f-stop, ISO data and so on from the picture after your shooting and use these information for subsequent examinations and even archival storing. Therewith you can use your walimex pro Lens much more professional for your photographic works.

The manual focusable Wide Angle Lens is featured through its extreme fixed focal length from 14mm, which provides an extraordinary picture impression. With a closest focusing distance of only 28cm, it is perfect for especially sharp and high-contrast pictures made from a close distance. The outstanding imaging performance is due to the optical lens system, which consists of two aspherical ED lenses (extra low dispersion). It is an additional contribution to meet the professional requirements in daily work.

The delivery includes a front and back protection cap and a convenient lens pouch.

* Important: F-stop will be transmitted through the chip to the camera. Time/aperture and program automatic work, when the focus scaling ring is set on 22!
