More compact and lighter than the zoom lenses I have. After a bit of checking I've found the best protective filter for this seems to be the Hoya 37 mm Super Multi Coated Filter Protector HD, or cheaper Hoya 37 mm Pro1 Digital Protector YDPROTE037 Clear filter black, which has a incorrect description (13 April 2020) but seems similar but with a more basic coating.
Colin The DolphinIdeal for my Pen F. It looks great on the camera as just the right size and looks well-balanced. The image quality is superb producing some sharp images.
SteveWanted this lens for ages and finally bought it, so pleased ... its just a brilliant lens, clear, so fast I don't need a flash for pretty much all situations ... the sharpness and bokeh are great ... more than a bargain too
Mat FFantastic lens! I've been using this primarily on the DJI Inspire 2 with the X5s camera and this lens is pin sharp.Brings a very different view into focus compared to the 15mm lens that comes as standard with the X5s.
TheMakerOfThingsI’d been fancying a portrait lens since I bought the camera 4 years ago, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on a punt. After all, how much different to the 42mm of 14-42mm kit lens that came with camera (Olympus OMD) could it be. Well worth it for great pictures. Not as wide an angle view as you might (have) expect(ed), but certainly worth having in your photographic armoury.I attach 2 pics of (false) flowers taken from same 2 spots with kit lens at 42mm and this 45mm prime - you can judge for yourself... and one of my cat in grumpy mood, woken for me to try out the lens. Wish I’d bought it much sooner, now.
1st timerAmazing lens at very good price. Perfect for portraits with lovely bokeh. Fitted to PEN F makes an awesome combination. Forget zooms, real photographers use primes ! Attached a few images taken at a WW2 event. They are really sharp so hope the upload does then justice.

Dust under the front element. Checked another 3 lenses - same problem. This is an absolute disgrace for Olympus
DimonI'll keep this short. If you want a portrait lens, or anything that can get you somewhat closer to the target, and you don't mind using primes (changing lenses is a nightmare, not because it's difficult but because you run the risk of getting dust on the sensor) then you ought to think of getting this beautiful lens. I've really enjoyed using it - it's quick to focus, has delightfully shallow depth-of-field when wide open, and produces amazing pictures.
CloselyObservedEnglishA great lens for portraiture. Produces a great blurred background - with the subject sharp. A good "all-rounder" for travel also.
Mr. R. WilkinsonThis is a bad boy believe me. For two hundred box you’ll get a great lense, dead sharp and very light! 5 star
Amazon CustomerSuper lensI bought this for my wife. She didn't know what top do with it at first... now she loves itA fantastic portrait lens... and the price is accessibleLovely lens. Wish others were available at this price.I can't believe how much some micro 43rd lenses cost !
Roland Herrera, Bristol UKI love this lens. I'm a new photographer, but I have several prime lenses from various manufacturers (Panasonic, Rokinon) and none of them give me the same confidence as this one. The autofocus is lighting fast, the bokeh is creamy delicious and it's quite a small lens, too. Regardless of lighting conditions I was able to get sharp photos of my subjects without any issues. Not a very technical review, but somehow, as an amateur, this lens helped me feel like a pro :)

A great, well-made and good value lens.Has the nicest, creamiest bokeh of any of my lenses. So much better than the Panny 25mm f/1.7 which has a nasty "doubling up" effect in the bokeh. This one is completely smooth and dreamy. Also just seems to produce nice portraits generally. Skin tones I get with this lens just seem more natural somehow than almost any other lens I've tried. It doesn't focus very close, so no good for macro. Really this is a portrait lens and not much else, but at that, it excels. It does looks a bit ridiculously small on a DSLR-style body like my G80. More suited to a rangefinder-style body I suspect. If you care about that sort of thing. One thing I have noticed is that the aperture can be quite noisy. Of course most of the time you'll be shooting this wide open or nearly, but if you do have cause to stop down, you may find that it produces quite an alarming clicking noise when it's adjusting the aperture. Might be an issue if using it for video in an auto-aperture mode...Overall, very happy with it.

Beautiful lens in every way ! if you own a M.F.T camera you need to own one of these wonderful lenses , its tack sharp and built like a swiss watch ! a totally fantastic addition to any olympus or panasonic system . stop thinking about it and just press buy you'll never regret it .
dark heartI am a beginner but wanted to take better and more creative photos, so I bought an Olympus OMD EM10. This came with a 14 – 42mm lens and I thought this would be all that I would need, but was persuaded by the positive reviews to purchase the 45mm Olympus lens. Even as a beginner I can see that this lens delivers a clear improvement over the kit lens - photos are more detailed and indoor low light performance is much better. It also easy to get portraits with professional looking blurred backgrounds and more ‘atmosphere’. However be aware that the level of magnification with this lens, whilst ideal for head and shoulder portraits, is a bit high for capturing wider landscape views. I have now ordered the Panasonic 25 mm micro 4/3 prime lens as an alternative to the 45mm so the 14 -42 zoom will probably stay in the cupboard in future.
hamilton414The best lens I have used so far on the Olympus MFT camera system. The lens is really sharp wide open and just gets more sharp when stopped down a bit. It's so tiny compared normal DSLR prime lenses but delivers a real punch with the results. It has a lovely way of rendering images and I have used it for lots of lovely portraits of my family. It's very quiet when focusing and quite quick in the AF department. No hesitation - great lens and very MFT camera owner should have it! It's a real bargain at this price point!
Amazon CustomerPanasonic users (except the GX8/80/85) should keep in mind this lens does not have optical stabilization. This means even at 1.8 you may need to boost your ISO. This isn't the lens fault though.
Jaffar AlmosaedStylishly designed and affordable, this powerful premium lens with its fast aperture is ideal for portraits with elegant background blur and vivid contrasts. With its highly fast focus, it is suitable for high-quality video recordings. The compact body comes with a metal-coloured, interchangeable decorative ring, so you can match it ideally to the colour of your camera.
