Nikon got it right when they designed this lens. It is super-sharp at all apertures and at all f-stops in FX format. Vignetting is minimal, as is chromatic aberration. Its auto focus is fast. Beware, however, that using a lens of this short a focal length might find few opportunities, owing to the distortion of perspective. But, when the opportunity presents itself, the results are remarkable.
double0sableFabulous for the Nor-then lights.????????
EvedesignFabulous for the Nor-then lights.????????
EvedesignThe focus system did not work, it was impossible to get any part of the image sharp.
Richard Derek WilbrahamThis is a fabulous lens, but make sure you get a good version. I tried a used model at first which had a faulty zoom control. Then I bit the bullet and went for a new one, which has been fantastic. Prices vary a lot, so shop around.
Steven BeardBest lens ever, sharp from corner to corner. I don't think you could get a better wide angle lens . Brilliant, best thing since sliced bread
colin scrymgeourWhat more is to be said about this lens? An optical marvel, even on a high resolution sensor like the D810. A rectilinear lens that changed what we thought possible. Sharp from f/2.8 at infinity (need to stop down if one has subjects near to far in frame obviously for sharpness), constant f/2.8 aperture, 14mm (to be used carefully) to 24mm focal length. A great day and night lens. All that said. It has hellacious field curvature, whereby things can be out of focus across the frame - and it is annoying to get home and find blur in the oddest places. Also, it flares like hell at all focal lengths; worse so at 14mm of course where the element protrudes the most. But for all of this, it's still a brilliant lens. I stupidly sold it and got a 24mm 1.4G, but now I need it back I think!
Steven Robinson PicturesI put it on the line of Nikkor's best glass. This is the case when you have to open your wallet for having great stuff! That's it!Sharpness and colours it delivers are great (if not amazing)! This is such an interesting lens - not really a fisheye and not really a 'normal' lens. Something in between. But this is what makes it very attractive (at least for me) since it brings additional chance for creativity. After you put files on distortion correction they become flattened and files looks like 'normal' ones, but with broader perspective.I keep away from giving any kind of recommendations, but for one I am sure - this will be the last peace of glass what I will sell out if hard times will come over!Roger? :)
Sunny CloudThis lens is so sharp & durable. It will be with me until something better comes on the market!

MR PA BENNSThis is the best lens that Nikon have made and the best lens I have for my landscapes, and I have a few. it does deliver stunning sharpness. The lens is primarily targeting the professional market and thus the build quality is accordingly high. the focus ring operates exceptionally smooth, at around 1kg it is the most heavy ultra-wide angle zoom lens around. the AF operations are fast and basically silent. it is a must for any landscape photographer

Mr. S. WilsonA high quality lens that takes a little time to get to know but once you do the images it can produce are fantastic.
A. S. JablonskiExcellent lens delivers all the time chuffed with it on the end of my d800e
claire loveAwesome lens. Has pride of place.
AnGobanSaorThis lens is quality start to finish... I have only owned it only a few weeks, so I may update this review later on, but from what little I have shot, I have to say its simply breathtaking... Oh and i love the case it comes in!
PeterAfter reading many reviews and deliberating which wide-angle lens to buy I decided on the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. My first copy had a slight auto-focus problem where it would occasionally slightly miss the optimum focus point on my D800; it was 99% perfect but that 1% bothered me and so I asked Amazon for a replacement. Amazon’s response was top notch: I asked for a replacement on the Saturday evening and the replacement arrive on Monday morning. I’m glad that I ordered from Amazon’s own warehouse stock. The replacement was 100% perfect and the image quality is breath-taking, very sharp wide open at f/2.8. What really amazes me is how good this lens is at the widest end of 14mm and I can appreciate for myself why photographers sing and dance about this lens; it’s optics are in my view truly World Class and it’s made in Japan. It’s expensive, yes and you can't attach a protective filter to the front, that’s true, but the image quality is simply stunning, only make sure that you receive a good copy, if it isn’t get it replaced straight away. I’m now one very happy owner of this stellar lens.
VictorI have coveted this lens now for nearly 3 years. I own a full frame Nikon system and I have the other 2 lenses in the so caled "holy trinity". The amazing 70-200mm and the equally good 24-70mm which is pretty much glued to my D3. Those lenses are good, this one is amazing. I purchsed this second user from a store in London at only £900, apart from the plastic lens cover having some marks the lens is flawless and the images it takes are crystal clear, I don't think I have a lens that can compete and that inlcudes the 50mm F1.4 prime. I must confess this is a luxury item as my needs to take landscape shots are very limited but I'm going to spend some time playign with it and can't wait to see the results which I will post here at some point.I'm not one for doing scientific reviews and I generally work on the quality of the image which after all is what we're here for!Superb, take the plunge.
D. BELLAMYAs all internet reviews state ... its a super zoom lens to match a prime lens. I use it 80% of the day. Wouldnt part with it.
JohnThis lens got high marks on all the important test sites around, and deservedly so. I won't repeat what has been said and written frequently about its optical merits. But you should be warned: This lens is not for general purpose; it is a highly specialized tool for those who can handle 14mm (ie, those who don't want to "get it all in one shot", but know that this focal length is for special views and effects), and it is a stunning, yet but expensive, solution for 24mm, where it has less distortion and issues than many primes. I treat it mostly as a "two in one" package and rarely use it anywhere between the two extreme lengths. Another thing to consider is its large front lens which protrudes the built-in shade, so flare can occur even when the sun is slightly behind the photographer. To get the best out of this lens, you need to think your way to a great picture. If you don't want to do this and prefer an easy "point-and-shoot" lens, get the 16-35 VR.
