Fantastic Lumix Lens
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this lens sometime back and after using it for both photos and video on my Lumix cameras I have to say for portrait photography this is a fantastic lens. Edge to edge sharpness even at F1.4 this has so much detail with excellent contrast and colour. For video if you want a slick sharp look to your work then this is fantastic to do that and great for film makers looking for bokeh and shooting in low light as most mft cameras are not that great in those situations. This lens is more best for interviews and documentaries. For those looking for more classic cinematic look you can achieve this with this lens but I recommend a manual lens or vintage lens with 'character' but overall this lens is designed for photography and produces excellent results overall and great for a modern video look.

Best lens I've ever owned; but beware!
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I've worked as a professional photographer for 25 years, and have been used to some pretty sharp lenses, and I can honestly say that this lens is as sharp as my Hassleblad 80mm CF. However, I purchased mine in 2011 as part of the first ever batch, and because I knew the retailer, I was able to test all 10 or so he had in stock, and yes EACH ONE WAS DIFFERENT! I'm not a huge fan on micro 4/3, but have used them constantly just because of this lens, which has surpassed anything in the DSLR range! So, I would strongly recommend trying this lens, taking it for a massive test drive, and return it if you're one of the unlucky ones! My own complaint is that there isn't a camera out there to do this lens justice; but only last week, I took pictures of a gig in low light with amazing results!

Problems with Olympus Cameras
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Solid build and great indoor photos for the day that we had this lens, but unfortunately when used outdoors in bright light there was significant purple fringing.
A quick search on the internet found that it is a common problem with Olympus bodies and Panasonic optics, so we sadly had to return..
There are fixes available such as filters or post processing, but for this much money do you really want to?

This lens was used with MFT Olympus OMD E-M10 MKII

A special kind of quality
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

There's something about the colours & contrast of this Pana 25mm f1.4 that makesreally lovely images. I'm talking about a clearly visible difference. Not pixel peeping.A higher quality, a richness that I cant quite put my finger onSubjects seem really well defined, colours are rich, and I'm not talking about depth of field effectsBetter tham my other m4/3 primes.I'm comparing this to the Olympus 45mm 1.8, the Pana 20 1.7 mk2, the Pana 14 f2.5 mk1, the Sigma 60mm 2.8all of which are good to excellent primes that I like and use.I have owned this Pana 25mm f1.4 since 2012 and from old basic 12mp bodies like the Oly EPL-1to the advanced 20mp Pana GX8 the same special image quality is still there. Is it the Leica coating or Glass? I don't know but i like it.The focus ring is really nice too use too if you like to manually focus. The hood is solid and deep but sqaure so does not reverse.I won't be selling it.

Dissapointed
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I too bought this lens on top of reviews stating how good it is. However, I found it wasn't as sharp wide open or even up to f/2.2 compared to my 20mm f/1.7. The rattlesnake noise from the AF was too annoying and did it every time in low light. I was also annoyed at the higher levels of vignetting up to f/4 compared to other primes I've owned. Returned to Amazon.

Great for video interviews
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is my principal interview lens for use with a GH5. Not quite as shallow a depth of field as my Sony APSC kit but still blurs the background in a very pleasing manner with lovely colours and good sharpness. Works very well with indoors, available light video which I do a lot of. I'd give it five, but aperture switching is fairly noisy which was a wee bit disappointing on a lens of this price.

High quality and worth paying for
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I have yet to explore the full capability of this lens, but from initial experience and results, I endorse the many positive comments made by others. As an amateur, I can't provide technical analysis, but I can say that the quality of photographs taken using my Panasonic G5 in terms of sharpness and less definable but obvious results such as colour rendering are clearly in a different league from the two zooms I have previously used (and they were both carefully chosen for their relative quality). It is also excellent in low light situations given the wide maximum aperture which also has the advantage that you can manage depth of field to isolate subjects. Overall, I can say that this lens is likely to be on the camera a great deal in future and used in the way those of us of a certain age would have used a classic 35mm standard lens, which of course this emulates. Yes it is relatively expensive, but you really do get what you pay for, and you don't have to be an expert to appreciate this.

Fast and Sharp
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this lens as a general walk-about lens for my OMD EM5 camera. I'm delighted with the results. My recent lake district holiday photos are sharp and contrasty in all apertures, a noticeable improvement over the bundled 12-50mm slow lens. But beware the 1.4 and 1.6 apertures. They work best for individual portraits as even objects slightly out of plane can become out of focus. My very slight disappointment is the larger than anticipated size of the lens. It is chunky and sizeable for a CSC lens negating the size advantage of the CSC system. A great buy, all the same.

The ultimate lens for MFT
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I bought this for my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and wanted a high quality lens with a native fit. The body seems very well made and solid with a nice weight to it. The glass of course is top notch and the lens is reported to give an excellent depth of field and bokeh compared to the inferior 20mm pancake lens.

It's quite big compared to other MFT lens, about the size of my 50mm f/2.8 canon lens, however the f/1.4 is worth the money - bare in mind that Canon's equivalent f/1.4 offering is significantly cheaper.

With such an expensive lens, baring the leica brand, I would recommend getting a good filter to protect your well invested glass.

This lens is pure quality and will most likely be my main goto lens while filming. It's a must have for any MFT owner.

Product Description

H-X025E

Digital Interchangeable Lens LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 ASPH. Based on the Micro Four Thirds System Standard The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 ASPH. (35 mm camera equivalent: 50mm), based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard, features outstanding brightness of F1.4 realized in the compact and light weight profile. The extraordinary brightness allows a beautiful soft focus for photo and video to be even more impressive and encourages users not to use the flash even in dimly-lit conditions. Certified with the name of world-renowned LEICA, the exceptional high image quality is guaranteed.

High Performance and Small Form Factor

When Panasonic developed the Micro Four Thirds System Camera one of the benefits that came with it was the ability to dramatically reduce the size and bulk of the corresponding lenses. Using its expertise in aspherical lens manufacturing and with the cooperation and strict quality standards of Leica AG on board, it set about producing a wide range of lenses that would satisfy a new generation of camera users. Whatever photo opportunity arises, the growing number of high quality, creative lenses available for the MFT system ensures that you won't miss out. Many lens manufacturers now contribute to the fastest growing digital camera system with over 30 models from manufacturers such as Olympus, Sigma, Leica and, of course Panasonic, already available and more being added regularly.

Aspherical Lens Elements

Traditional spherical lenses bend the light at the edges of the image causing distortion or aberration. Aspherical lenses on the other hand overcome this issue by delivering light to a more precise point on the sensor. They also reduce the number of required lens elements meaning lenses can be smaller and lighter. However Aspherical lenses are extremely difficult and costly to produce, so only a small number of manufacturers have the know-how to make them. Panasonic is one of the few lens manufacturers with this capability and therefor can create very high quality yet smaller lenses.

Anti-Ghost and Flare with Nano Surface Coating Lens

In advancement to regular multi-coating lens technology to reduce flare and reflections, the application of a Nano thin outer layer coating virtually eliminates ghost and flare entirely.

Silent AF Motor Drive - Perfect for HD Video Recording

In addition to the fast stepping motor drive the improves the speed of focussing, this lens model also uses an inner linear motor that is almost silent in operation. This makes the lens ideal for use when videoing as no motor noise will be picked up by the microphone.

Ultra Extra-low Dispersion (UED) Lens Elements

An enhancement of the Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens, Ultra ED are even more effective at reducing colour aberration. By reducing colour aberrations, high contrast and detail is maintained across the full width of the image, resulting in beautiful high quality pictures.

In-Lens Power Optical Image Stabilisation (Power O. I.S. )

Panasonic's extensive knowledge of building highly effective stabilisation in to our professional broadcast cameras led to the introduction of the Mega O. I.S. that compensates for tiny movements of the camera during shooting (up to 4,000 times per second). Power O. I.S. improves that compensation and doubles the effectiveness of shake suppression (when compared with Mega O. I.S. ), especially for low frequency vibrations or when shooting in low light. Panasonic's lens-integrated gyro system ensures power efficient and accurate vibration compensation, matched to each lens, proving its effectiveness time after time.

Extra Low Dispersion Lenses

In a conventional lens made only of optical glass, it becomes difficult to correct chromatic aberration when the focal length is long or the angle of view is wide, thus resulting in contrast degradation or colour bleeding. This problem has been solved by Panasonic's Extra Low Dispersion (ED) lens. It suppresses the prism's colour separation effect to correct longitudinal chromatic aberration at the telephoto zoom setting and chromatic difference of magnification at the wide angle setting. Used to render sharp, high contrast images with clear colours form corner to corner.

High Quality Metal Barrel Construction

Continually fixing and unfixing lenses to your camera body puts a lot of strain on the lens mount. As an important part of the lens barrel, a metal mount is more durable and retains an accurate fixing to the camera body. Resulting in a more reliable performance for many years to come.
