Because in a compact "Fujicron" lens design you can carry around a super wide in the smallest package. A really good lens for the street shooter who want to go wide. A surprising amount of power in a small lens. Keep your camera small with this lens... otherwise if you want the studio version of the 16mm then get the F/1.4 which is a beast of a lens, and probably the very finest of them all. This is the WR all purpose portable and compact version of the beast that you can carry all day without strain. Only F/2.8 is the drawback, but you gain in small size. I'm a fan. On paper it made no sense, but put it on your body and you will understand why you need it. Great choice of lens.
Roland Herrera, Bristol UKI needed a spare lens for my X-T2 after I bouth the X-T3
MKdrummerGreat lens, use it as a back up to my 18-55
ColthecrowFor what it costs it just does not give enough in picture quality over the Fujifilm 15-45mm kit lens, if you have the 18-55mm kit lens then this maybe worthwhile giving you a wider angle of view. It’s very sharp in the middle but so is the 15-45mm your just really getting better corner quality but not by a huge amount
W. N. LeggeStays on my Fuji xt2 great lens, although it's all metal, its compact & lightweight, quality built lens engraved manual apature stops, metal screw in 49mm filter, filters are pretty cheap, weather resistant (frost sand & light rain) my favourite & most used & fun focal length, great price super fast auto focus

AlexExcellent quality, excellent results, I rarely take it off my camera.
FraggleIf you want 22mm fov (in full frame terms) and weather resistance is important to you then this is a must buy.
Darren StephensBrilliant addition to my Fuji prime lens collection!
Tony2Great little lens
Amazon CustomerI was a Leica user but switched to Fuji a little. while back. I have purchased quite a few prime lenses and this is the latest addition.I can't believe. what great value this lens is. Its less than half the price of its bigger brother the 16mm f1.4 lens and for me, since I rarely need a f1.4 lens this lens ticked all the boxes.I really do like the aperture ring. Nice movement and clicks. The autofocus on the lens is fast and UI didn't miss any images when using it.Its the equivalent of a 24 mm lens on my Fuji x-Pro2 and the combination makes carry the camera light and though you do sometimes need to get close, the images are vibrant and sharp.
Alison DruceGreat size, sharp, colourful pictures and good bokeh where it can. That's how I can summarise this lens. I have run the out of camera jpeg pictures (not even RAW) through VSCO in lightroom and cropped some of these to square size. All of these have been taken at the max aperture of 2.8, so shows the capability of the lens. Sizewise, I think it might be between 23 and 35mm f/2 lenses, though I can't be sure as I have only briefly tried these other lenses in a shop. If you can't be bothered with the heavier f1.4 lens, you can't go wrong with this one. This wide angle might be my new favourite.

MaheshThe “FUJINON XF16mmF2.8 R WR” helps to deliver the best results from Fujifilm’s unique X-TRANS CMOS sensors. Small and lightweight, the lens offers very high resolution performance due to the optical design. The XF16mmF2.8 R WR lens adopts an inner focusing system driven by a stepping motor for faster and quieter auto-focusing. Metal parts are used extensively on the exterior providing a premium yet robust feel, while the aperture and focusing rings have been designed to be comfortable and easy to use. The lens is also weather and dust resistant, and operates in temperatures as low as -10°C, making it ideal for shooting in a variety of conditions. The XF16mmF2.8 R WR will expand the lineup of compact, lightweight and stylish lenses, which currently includes the FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR, XF35mmF2 R WR, and XF50mmF2 R WR, further broadening the appeal of FUJIFILM mirrorless digital cameras.
