NICE LENS THOUGH DATED, NOISY FOCUS , IMAGE QUALITY EXCELLENT
ROBBOComplete bargain for the price you are paying for.
MannyNikon 24 2.8 D is the lens I was exactly looking for. It has a very good sharpness in the centre of the image and good sharpness on the borders. On DX which I use it is the same as 35 mm - moderate wide angle lens. I use Nikon 50 1.8 D as well and this 24 2.8 D is its good partner for landscapes, simply universal. I am semi-pro and I can only say: highly recommended.

Mrs. L. A. N. CottonI think it was Foreigner that said 'I wanna know what love is'? Well my amigo, love comes in the form of this small and lightweight 24mm lens! This sexy little mama produces a nectar so sweet and addictive that I will be forever faithful and think of Sinead O'Connor when she sang 'Nothing compares 2 U'!I'm a long way from an pro so let's keep this review on a basic level shall we?Does it produce sharp pics? YUP!Does it find focus fast? YUP!Does it just....feel right? YUP!What more can you ask for?OK so for a balanced review let's look at some potential downsides. It only has an aperture of f2.8. But like me if you are purchasing this wide a lens then it's probably for landscape stuff so the likelihood is that you won't be using it at anything other than f8 or above. Still if you want low light performance stick it on a full frame body that can handle high ISO and you are laughing. So not really a negative then! There is no switch on the lens barrel to change between auto and manual focus as the G version has....I can't remember the last time I used manual focus as an amatuer. Also, you can flick the switch on your camera to get it to manually focus. Again, not really a downside! This lens is a gem, a no brainer, get it now!By the way I got mine from ebay for £170!

A great light weight option for FX Nikon. For adequate sharpness all over the field, removal of vignetting, it needs to be stopped down to F5.6 however modern software does resolve the issues (vignetting+aberration) at 2.8 (centre sharp, corner softness). Despite having two pro zooms covering 24mm I use this lens a lot as it keeps my camera very light. Distortion is easily correctable - front end doesnt move which means you can put any filter and the feature i really like is close focusing due to a movable CRC element - can focus within 1-2 feet or so. This however is not going to compete with the 24mm 1.8G the new release which I wont be surprised if is far better at F2.8 but is more than twice the price. The 24mm 1.4G is too pricy for me. I have no experience of using it on a DX camera so cannot comment. I use a HN-1 hood - it can flare. Overall for the price and my purposes with the light weight 4 out of 5.
Amazon CustomerBought this as a wide for my F90 (yes, a film camera!) A bit more expensive than the 28mm but I wanted something that had a bit of an advantage - and you can see the difference in angle of view. Haven't really examined the optical quality yet - maybe that will wait until I get an FX camera. Another reason why I bought it was as an astro lens on DSLR - it has a properly functional focus mechanism and is a good focal length for this sort of work, apart from the essential 2.8 aperture. Also it's very well made, takes 52mm filters and will work on old not-AF film SLRs (although you should be using metal lenses on these)... the 28 mil is cheaper but if you want something a bit more special, get this.

Davethis is a great little lens,I use it as a in door family shooter on my Nikon D810.(because I left my point and shoot camera at home).this lens is as good as my 24-70 at 24mm and its nice and compact, and at the price you can not beat it,
bobhitchExcellent quality at an affordable price. Although the lens has some years on the market, it is still recommendable. Image quality is excellent and the low weight and fast operation makes it also practical to use.
R. PeterssonA great lens. Works beautifully on my Nikon Df. A perfect combinationThe only disappointment was that I bought it as NEW directly from Amazon, but it definitely was not in the original condition it left the factory. Box had been opened. The lens had specks on it and the rear cap was not a original Nikon cap but a Tamron for Nikon.
Amazon CustomerExcellent lens for the price. This has become a very well used walk around lens on my D700. While not ultra sharp it is not a purchase I regret. I use it for landscapes mainly and for shots of large groups of people.
PortrayUIf you wish to have a lens for those days when you don't want to be carrying a ton of equipment with you then this fits the bill especially for landscapes and indoor shots. Very little weight to carry and pin sharpness.
Alan BarberI've moved to this lens and a 50mm Nikon fixed for my d50 and it's great for landscapes. First results much clearer than the zoom which came standard, and using fixed rather than zoom improves my photography skills by putting more and better effort into subject framing.
E. DalhuijsenHigh quality prime lens, matches the performance of top quality zoom lenses at three times the price of this product. A small unobtrusive lens, a fraction of the weight of top quality zooms. So carrying this around all day is the smart way to go and its a Nikon lens they don't come any better.
Larry WrightUsed this lens to photograph the Aurora Borealis recently in Norway, Got some very sharp images, very happy with the lens.
Lucia CreedonWonderful lens despite its antiquity. Delivery was prompt and no problems in operation on a Nikon D800. Just remember to keep the lens locked at its highest f number to get automatic camera control.
P GloverA great little lens , good Nikon optics in a small package, when compared with to days heavy wide zooms.
GillespicThe first thing I noticed about this lens is its weight. When it comes to photography equipment this is always a good sign. The second thing is its sharpness. I love prime lenses, they can't be beaten by zoom ones. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is that I consider it a little bit too expensive. Otherwise, if you are looking at this lens you know what you're after. You won't be disappointed.
