I was....Age 65 & having wanted but never acquired a Dualit anything, I thought I'd treat myself at last, before I couldn't!It died its own death within 30secs of its first test run....and it's been returned for a full refund...thank you Amazon. That said then hopefully it's safe enough to now admit that, being a bit of a repair geek, I removed the four screws & lever knob to peek inside hoping to find some obvious fault. What I found immediately prompted me to go get & open up the 8.99 Tesco toaster in the wee studio flat that we rent out at times. And that, even if I'd of found a simple, repairable, fault would have been enough to have me return it regardless. At more than six times the price this thing shouldn't be avoided so much...it should be bloody illegal.A disgrace to the iconic brand it once was...pure & simple.
stephen b clarkThe lowest cm of bread doesn't toast. Very annoying!
Amazon CustomerNot bad, but browns one side of the toast more than the other (and no, I hadn't selected the bagel setting!) . Browns second 2 slices too much. The ability to lift the slices to check the browning progress is useful and often necessary.I bought this item on the strength of a Best Buy recommendation from Which. Can't imagine how bad their Worst Buy must be!
Francis G.I discounted previous reviewers moaning about uneven browning etc. Well, turns out they were dead right: you can one burnt side or one underdone side, but not two sides the same. Why? Apparently because the outside elements warm up more slowly than the inside elements. That’s a major design flaw as far I’m concerned! WHO warms a toaster up before using it?!
What a shame though because it looks lovely and functions well (other than the toasting aspect).
The toaster has failed after less than 18 months of use.

DavI dislike I couldn’t succeed in adding the Sandwich cage (L 10.75) to the toaster ,so they can be delivered together.Easy to use and to clean.I like specially the DESIGN!!!!
nomiDoesn't toast evenly,
cateWhich? consumer research in the UK rated this as one of the best toasters on the market. It is a lovely product and the speed of toasting and design are super. We were very surprised however to find that if one tries to toast one slice of bread alone there is too much heat coming across from the empty slot: the result is that the single slice of bread is over-toasted on one side. This is not convenient & not pleasant. Very surprising for a machine of this price & quality: cheaper toasters at the half the price such as a Russell Hobbs we ended up buying do not have this problem at all.
J DWe've had this toaster for about 6 months now, but have had a very frustrating time with it. Avoid it!
The basic problem we' ve had is that the dial that is supposed to allow you to set the amount of toasting became faulty within a short time of having it. We set the dial, press down the lever, and then the leaver often pops up again straight away. So we set it to a higher level and repeat. Sometimes the lever will refuse to stay down even if the dial is at the highest level. My wife toasted her last slice by holding the leaver down until it is toasted - and that was after cleaning out the crumb tray!
It is really disappointing that a UK product proved to be faulty so quickly. Dualit's support page says:
"If an appliance fails to operate properly, while in use under normal household conditions and within the warranty period, normal procedure would be to return the appliance (with the receipt) to the store or retailer where purchased. The Contract of Sale is between yourself and the retailer and is it principally the retailer's responsibility to assist in resolving any issue with the product within the warranty period."
However in Amazon's description of the product the "warranty period" isn't even listed, and so we have no idea if it is covered.
Nightmare! Avoid!

AndyHere is my toaster after some weeks of toasting bread for breakfast. It does brown the bread evenly, it has wide slots for the bread, i tried different sizes of bread and they do fit perfectly. You can set the timer and click the button for your toasts to pop, or you can just lift the lever and check the bread without stopping the toasting process. As you see in picture one there is a dark mark on the side, that was caused by toasting bread one time and there was some fire on the side of the toaster. I had to turn the toaster off coz i was worried. Cleaning it is another story. I have to use sticks just so i can reach the bottom, and it is really difficult to clean them smudges.
Amazon CustomerOur first Dualit toaster was not the colour we’d expected and didn’t match our kettle so we returned it.
The second one was the right colour but was a rubbish toaster! The bread was very unevenly toasted, with very clear white grid lines across it. Not what you would expect from a toaster of this price. After trying to get an opinion from Dualit we decided to return that also.
By now we were desperate to speed up breakfast time and couldn’t face the Delivery man again so soon, so we purchased a third one locally.
This is slightly better but in my opinion it is no better than our previous one which had cost a fraction of the price!

Grandma LizMy own fault I had read other reviews but as I was replacing the same model I've had for yearsand had no problems I bought the same model. It doesn't toast both sides evenly. One side is burnt so I toast on a low number so one side ok the other not toasted enough.
Maureen I.I bought this toaster due to good review results in different toaster tests. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to the quality of the toaster. The toaster was faulty when I received it. One of the metal grids that keep the bread centered during toasting process was not functioning as intended. Hence, I was unhappy to my purchase and cannot recommend the product due to poor quality.
AriDisappointed that the cheese in our toasties doesn't melt, if you want it fully melted you end up burning the toast no matter what setting, we have tried them all. Yes we use the seperate cages for this model. Not as good as one we had a number of years ago...
KteeI had to return the first one as it only toasted on one side. I do like the toaster but this one still toasts more on the inside elements than the outside ones
K MStill finding the right setting seems a bit unpredictable!
BestieElements don't last long at all, half the bread gets toasted.
Ian M.Patented toast technology: Calculates the temperature of your toaster and surroundings to derive the precise toasting time for your slice of consistently golden brown toast. Patented peek and pop: Distinct to Dualit, this feature allows you to check on your bread without stopping it toasting. Extra wide slots; 36 mm slots accommodate thicker slices and terrific toasties with the sandwich cage. Features 60 slices per hour
The lite peek and pop 2 slice toaster makes every breakfast a special occasion by combining Dualit's classic design styling with a high gloss finish. The peek and pop function means you can check your bread whilst it is toasting without interrupting the toasting cycle. There is a defrost button for frozen bread and a bagel setting to warm one side and toast the other. If you need to stop the toasting cycle there is a cancel button. The high lift mechanism means you can remove small items easily. The extra wide 36mm slot accomodates larger items.
