This machine makes great coffee and the milk frother is good to. However it has been a painful experience dealing with a recurring problem that De'Longhi will not admit exists. There are many good things about the machine, I particularly like that you can adjust the cup size. The amount of water in the container could be more, but it actually does not cause us a problem, likewise the amount of coffee beans held by the grinder is sufficient for home use. We mostly use it for espresso and do not frequently use the frother, but as mentioned it works well. The espresso is actually really good with a good crema once we found the right grinder settings for the beans we use.But BEWARE: Our machine has gone back to De'Longhi twice in 2 years. I can only describe the fault as a lack of lubrication. The start-up cycle becomes laboured, slows down and eventually the machine will not even start.De'Longhi have serviced it and on both occasions said no fault was found, but miraculously the machine returned started up and worked great. They would not even agree that it did not start up - effectively calling me a liarNow out of warranty, De'Longhi will not service the machine despite that it is the same fault that occurred already twice prior and during the warranty. They eventually admitted that they had lubricated the transmission as part of the service and that they could take it back for the same service at a cost £70-£200!! A coffee machine that is looked after as well as ours should not need servicing every 6 months to a year.My opinion is that this is a fault with the machine, they will never admit it but I am not paying those prices to repair something that has already occurred twice while under warranty. As a long time fan, I have lost faith in the brand. Pity as it makes great coffee when it works.
MarcoThe coffee is pretty good (of course a lot of this has to do with what beans you choose to buy!) but the machine has to do a rinse routine when you first turn it on and again when it turns off. That takes a while to do which is frustrating in the mornings when you just want coffee. No way to override it either. Water tank is so small considering how large the machine itself is and with all the self rinsing it likes to do,I am constantly having to refill the tank, approx after ever 3 mugs of coffee. Water filter replacements aren't cheap and has to be done pretty often. I like the milk steamer feature which works very well so that's a plus. For the price of the machine it's not as fantastic as I expected.
ClementineMakes great coffee and steamer is great.........when it works, 2 months of use and steamer is broken. Water leaking out of the section above the nozzle. At least 2 weeks to repair.
Amazon CustomerVery slow delivery but the machine is really great except....well here goes... The capuchino foamer simply works perfectly and the coffee is professional barrista quality at home. Brilliant. However, typical of poor quality control - the display has a small hair visible, but inaccesible & stuck to the inside cover. Not bad enough to send it back but very frustrating. Luckily I don't notice it any more. I was very very, disappointed with the delivery. Having paid almost £10 extra I didn't expect Hermes to take over a week to get it to me. Very poor indeed. Still, I'm glad I bought it.
MoleyFaulty product. After 2 weeks of use, the steat system broke down and now water and steam is coming from inside the machine from all sides.. Clearly not a breakdown you would expect from a machine of this type. Very dissapointed!
georgiWhen it work great 36 days old and the steam chamber had burst. Terrible quality.
Malcs70Just wait until you get the dreaded 'Empy circuit fill circuit' message! I have been battling with mine for months - very very frustrating and now totally dead after only 753 coffee's made - I might as well have bought them at starbucks. When it works, it's awesome, when it goes wrong, it's hell on earth!!
David BQuite a coffee fan and have bean searching for the perfect clean fuss free solution for home brew. So we discarded the nespresso machine and bought this.Maybe it was a faulty one or maybe others are diluting their coffee with frothy milk...but I couldn't get a decent expresso shot from this machine...I tried three different beans using all the grind, temperature and strength settings. I made weak & burned, strong & burned, burned without crema, burned with crema. So had to return the unit. Amazon dealt with the return in a no quibble fashion. The old Gaggia Classic is out of the cupboard and a hand grinder purchased...I guess there are no short cuts in the world of coffee unless you spend an eye watering amount on a bean to cup machine.
GrumpyI posted a previous (glowing) review of this machine just after i bought it.Now, after just over 2 years, 3 weeks after warranty expired, the machine died. So, 400 quid for 24 months light use. I consider that to be a pretty expensive deal.Bottom line, extremely expensive bit of kit if needs to be replaced after 24 months.
Dave M.Just received machine back from de longhi after just 3months and 55cups of coffee having been returned for repair. The problem was that steam was leaking from the machine casing directly behind the steam nozzle and the cause was an internal burst pipe. Being a manufacturers fault this work was carried out under warranty but I am not happy that I should encounter a problem such as this after such a short time and so little use. They refused to exchange which I would have been happier with. Don't have much faith in the machine now, and for the money paid, am not very impressed!
T. L. JenkinsAlthough the coffee produced, at the end of the day, is a lot better than filter stuff there are other caveats which you find out after you've bought the machine.1. Using ground coffee? Only one cup at a time. Queue up if there's more than two in the household.2. The manual: Hybrid english, with some spanish(?) mixed in the english section. Not user friendly at all.3. Way overpriced. Check for competitive suppliers.
