Very pleased with item. Appalled at Amazon for their poor service but the item is great
teetalsI had this laptop for a little while and I can confirm that it runs really hot. I would not recommend this laptop without an additional cooling fan pad underneath. GPU temperatures were reaching 97-98 C when under load. There are some weird stutters when gaming sometimes which is really annoying. For the money I would recommend getting a different laptop (or at least get some additional cooling fan pads for it) I only use it when I'm away from home. Consider different laptops before buying this one. Apart from stuttering and really high temps when gaming, I did not have any other problems with it.
Krystiani5-8300h, GTX 1060I bought this for £800, which represents excellent value for money. I don't recommend paying any more than that. However, the CPU can overheat to 80C-100C after 1 hour of gaming. This will degrade (i.e destroy) the CPU over time and also cause laptop performance issues. To remedy this you will need to potentially i) under-volt the CPU ii) open up the laptop and apply new thermal paste to the CPU iii) turn off the CPU turbo boost functionIf you're unwilling to do any of the above, I don't recommend you buy the laptop unless you plan to use it to fry eggs.
Amazon CustomerSo i got the GTX 1060 6gb, i5 8th Gen, 8gb ram and 144hz display. So far I've been using it for a month, and i am extreamly happy with my purchise. Lets get in to more detail. The design of the lap top its self feels sturdy and has a nice carbon fiber feel on it on the top, the display is crisp and the 144hz screen is super improvment over my last 60hz screen, u really notice the difference even from just mooving the mouse. So i tasted some popular games on it to see what frames i get.-COD Warzone on high i got around 60-70fps, on medium i was getting around 80-90fps-World of Warcraft ultra high 120fps constant-Cs go ultra settings over 240fps-Owerwatch high over 120fpsOwerwatch is where i noticed the difference of having a 144hz monitor and it rly felt like an advantige.I have it 4 stars cuz it gets rly hot, although it is expected for a gaming laptop, but i think they could have mooved some things around to get a better heat sync. Oh one more thing before i forget... there is some bloutwear on the lap top that u might wanna uninstal.Over all great value for money and would recommend it if your on a budget and u wanna play all the new fancy games with medium to high settings. Also highly recomend getting a gaming mouse for it so u can get them headshots
SpamfyGreat laptop with enough space. Nice sturdy charging socket so it is safe from damage. My games work well.
MattThis laptop is painfully slow. It can't even open Google Chrome without lagging. I have a desktop built with a similar amount of money and it performs way faster. It took me 30 minutes to do what's only supposed to take less than 2 minutes with a normal computer. The headache this laptop gives you is not worth the money whatsoever.
DannyThis laptop is so slow it goes backwards at times, I am not even joking, takes1 minute to navigate through google chrome and when you try and install something takes 30 minutesNo joke. Even pressing alt ctrl and delete takes 2 minutes for it to do anything.
Simon W.I wanted a laptop that would allow me to game, but I was on a budget and the Acer Nitro 5 has been great. I've had it for 3 years now and it still works great. The bad things are bloatware (which you can and should remove), if you use it for streaming and have a web browser open and play a game, then the RAM will max out, but there is space to put in more RAM. The AMD Radeon settings will break every so often which prevents you from updating your graphics, but you can just re-download it from the AMD website.
Paul Wruns practically all games still, using it now months later, keyboards letters are not very well shown tho. screen is good rez
Greenoakian EjitI love this machine. It is really good for what I need it for - games development. It has enough grunt to have replaced my laptop. but I would not be able to stand the noise level if it was used for things like watching movies or similar. Gaming is of course ok, as it expects you to wear headphones. But for gamers beware that the lighting underneath the keys is insufficient to light up the letters on the keyboard. so typing and gaming in the dark is not an option with this machine. It runs most games, it is good quality, it keeps cool well and I even like the keyboard, although spending 30 quid on an external one made sense for me. I added a second SSD without issues and the RAM is maxed out at 16GB. I have abused it now for over a year, and it is running perfectly.Like with all Acers the track pat sucks, and will break soon. A mouse or track-ball might be a good additon.
C. BlumhoffMy son is so happy with this laptop.
DomenikI bought this laptop at £800 what I thought would be a better option than I mac around the same price. I use it for paperwork and DAW software's with total ease and can happily play games also, recently playing Fallen Jedi and Call of duty, both running well with good settings and frame rates and with a decent looking screen. The bits what aren't as good but for the price I am not fussed, is the brightness of the screen at full and the loudness of fans, but was still totally worth the purchase. I'm happy I didn't buy a MacBook:)
BenThe laptop is still pretty new, haven't used it for any hardcore gaming. Played a few fortnite games on it which I had on Max settings. The laptop does do it self justice. I really like the design of it and how the keyboard light turns off when your not typing. Overall great product. The only upgrade I'd make is buying a bigger ram and maybe storage, but again that's just me.
AhmedI've had this laptop for over a month now, and I will update this review if it needs to be changed. So far, it works perfectly. I was sceptical when seeing some of the bad reviews but people have forgotten that you can use switchable graphics to make the game faster. The battery life is small but you get a tank of a machine.
Poco CuffsHell yes, it does meet a gaming standerd runs perfectly well, i personally upgraded my rams to 16 gb 2666 mhz and added a sshd 1tb on itAnd good its actually good. Just my only consern is with their nitrosence application, when u have fan speed on auto it doesnt really keep the pc cooled enough therefore leading to stutters every 5 minutes, easy to fix tho, just make sure you put it on max fan speed when gaming and youll be good
Edward HajjThis laptop looks really nice when powered up. Boots up quickly and runs very quietly. Not had any problems running any games yet, the graphics are amazing amd the sound is good too.
Matt L.I got the Core i5 version. It comes with SSD and HDD which is amazing. The Nvidia GPU performs amazing and also accepts drivers from Nvidia site directly which is amazing for the longevity of a gaming laptop. The keyboard is nothing amazing, but I do like it and it's a budget laptop so for the money I will say it's very good. Display also have very good viewing angles and good colours. Since it's a budget machine it comes only with 6GB of ram so I will recommend you buying "Crucial CT2K8G4SFS8266 16 GB Kit (8 GB x2) (DDR4, 2666 MT/s, PC4-21300, Single Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory" It will make sure your laptop is a giving you the maximum performance and you wont be limited by the 6gb default RAM.
Hristo BarakovThis Laptop is amazing. Booting up is quick, playing games is amazing, pretty much doing anything is amazing. However, the downside is that for you to get EVERY ounce of power your laptop MUST be connected 24/7 if you want to be playing games. If you want to play games WITHOUT being plugged in than you must make sure that it requires low end power AND you don't mind the battery being drained QUICKLY. Whenever I tried playing Rocket League unplugged I struggled hitting 30fps and the battery drained in just under an hour.ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING!Upon getting this laptop it DIDN'T use the GTX 1060 it was using the integrated GPU instead. However this problem was fixed after contacting support.
TroyI bought the nitro 5 in the prime day sales after looking for a cheap 144hz gaming laptop for a while. There wasn't much info on the 144hz model but I went for it because the £750 price seemed like a good deal. So here's my thoughts after a month of use.
Gaming results are solid the gtx 1060 is still a good enough gpu and will run most games at 60 fps with at least medium settings. Only esports games such as overwatch and csgo will be able to fully utilise the 144hz display though. At low settings overwatch runs great you wont get a better experience at this price.
The display is just ok but its fine for gaming. Its definitely not the best 144hz panel in a laptop but for the price I paid im very happy.
Thermal performance is poor and I think this model is probably the worst for thermals. Depending on the game cpu temps regularly get into the 90s even with max fan speed enabled. I undervolted the cpu by -1.15 which does help keep temps in the 80s without sacrificing performance.
This laptop comes with 8gb ram in dual channel which I was unaware of when buying. For most games this is plenty only more cpu heavy games will benefit from upgrading but for that you will have to replace both sticks of ram for it to be dual channel. Luckily this is super easy to do on this laptop, just one screw and you can get to the ram slots.
The 512gb m.2 ssd is super nice and unexpected for this price range, there is a 2.5 inch bay for expanding storage if you wanted. Not sure if there is a second m.2 slot but at the moment 512gb ssd is fine for me.
Considering this laptop cost me £750 I can't really complain too much about thermal issues. This laptop satisfies my needs for a cheap 144hz gaming experience.
