Not what it looks like

the MacBook Pro isn’t what it seems like I don’t really understand. I feel like it is overpriced and also hard to use. It crashed on my first day of using it. Do not buy!

The Keyboard RUINS this product.

The MacBook Pro is for "power users" and I am most definitely that, I use my laptop all day, everyday. I hate upgrading, but I was running out of RAM on my 2013, so as a developer, I got the latest 15", i9 with 32GB. Even direct from Apple the 32GB version gets build on demand and is couriered, takes about 2 weeks to arrive.Everything about this product is what I would expect from Apple; the OS we know and love, amazing screen, slim, light weight, long battery life, great performance... except the keyboard.I bought this laptop about 6 months ago, but I've been holding off writing a review because I know that sometimes it's just a case of getting used to something new, but 6 months on I am still frustrated, I hope someone from Apple sees this review. With tax, this laptop cost £3,200 and I hope whoever designed the keyboard gets fired. It's not like Apple didn't get it right in the past, my 2013 keyboard got everything right.1. Keys are too close together and require almost zero pressure. The keys are about 2mm apart and the slightest touch counts as a keypress. This means you will descend into miss-key hell. At the end of typing each sentence you will look back and see stray characters. The 2013 keyboard has keys about 4mm apart and the keys are slightly raised, requiring a little more pressure for a key press, that means you can brush a key without triggering it.2. There is no hardware ESC key. The 2013 keyboard had a hardware escape key. The 2019 keyboard has an escape key on the "soft bar". Programmers use the ESC key a lot. They have replaced the ESC key with a totally useless +- key with a squiggle, I have been using computers all my life, I have no idea what that squiggle means or why I would need it. I thought to myself, I must be able to remap that useless key to ESC, nope, not possible in the GUI. Luckily, with a lot of hackery, I managed to write a key remap shell script, wasn't easy.3. Switching screens on the same app is CMD + ~ these two keys are next to each other, you may get RSI.4. The comedy over

Like a drug addled supermodel, it sacrificed too much to be skinny.

I've had 4 different generations of macbook over the years and I've loved using all of them. The clear screens, the unibody cases, the quiet fans, and keyboard that was simple and enjoyable to use. The ports, the speakers... that's enough of the rose tinted, nostalgia nonsense. The new macbook pro is garbage.Imagine walking out of the big, minimalist Apple store with your shiny new laptop and cutting edge iPhone. Giddy with the possibilities and neat cleanliness that lies ahead of you. "It just works" you'd be thinking. And then you try to plug your new phone into your laptop. But the phone comes with a cable that doesn't plug into your laptop."Oi, Genius - why can't I plug my Apple phone into my Apple laptop?" - you may well say, upon returning to the Apple store."Because the laptop is so thin and light and wonderful it doesn't need ports. Now get out before I call security" - They may well reply. If you are thinking about inflicting this laptop on yourself, remember to buy adapters to you can use any peripherals. Apple don't make them by the way, so if you ever want to plug your Apple phone into your Apple laptop, you'll need to by a non-Apple adapter. It. Just. Works.I appreciate innovation doesn't work by "lots of people really want X so lets develop X" but I don't know what was the driving force behind the touch bar? Was it a good idea poorly implemented? why does my escape key keep disappearing? why do i now have to press two things to change my screen brightness? When does it become useful? Why should I care? After about 2 weeks of use, the right hand fan started to grate, like it was rubbing against something. This has got slowly worse and it now sounds like cricket in a toaster unless I have the fan on full speed (achieved by installing a honky 3rd party bit of software), but then I just have the sound of the fan at full speed. So it's noisy. But at least it's skinny am i right? Now I know Apple have come under a lot of criticism for their new keyboard. People have complained a great deal about everything fro

Great decision.

Bought mine in Currys. Absolutely love it. Always used Microsoft computers till now. I have an I phone and Apple Watch so thought why not complete the set. Great decision. Never been so productive in work. The speed of the i7 is just a pleasure. The feel of it is top notch. Worth every penny. I’m sold. Will never go back now.

With the MacBook Pro, your work is more productive. I have been using the IBM computer with windows for a while, but when I switched to MAC I saw the difference.

EDIT: I must admit that in terms of performance and reliability the 15” MBP is not bad at all but won’t increase start so people read it.Apple evil marketing people got what they wanted - I got a brand new 16” MBP 6 months after getting this one. I decided I cannot live with the 15” one for another (hopefully) 5+ years when my last 17” lasted 10 years. I’m a pro doing web development and the latest hardware has been designed more for casual and graphics designer user in terms of UX. At least Ingot back my physical ESC key and a larger screen.EDIT: managed to set fixed keys on the Touch Bar via system preferences (google about it). Now am dimming my screen accidentally many times during the day instead of loosing typed content or sending unfinished emails to customers - at least some improvement!ORIGINAL POSTMy 10 year old 17" MBP died (sold a spare one and now regret it) and had to urgently/quickly buy a new one - this laptop is a piece of s**t and am extremely annoyed by the keyboard and the f**** touch bar that looses typed content in browsers becaue one will always accidentally touch the touch bar's refresh or back buttons. I want to throw this machine through my window after having to retype a long message that just disappeared and has to be retyped from scratch!!! Not to mention that it sent an unfinished messages a couple of times. My advise - don't buy. Apple need to learn to listen their customers the hard way through loss of revenue as they've known about the above problems yet released user unfriendly hardware in their new products. I would love to rip out the touchbar and am seriosuly thinking about putting some tape over it leaving only ESC key visible. If I wasn't on a trip around the EU and in the UK would have returned it 100% and buy an older version with a standard quiet (my gf can’t sleep anymore since I got the new laptop and work late nights) keyboard and no ridiculous touch bar.

Disappointing functionality
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

The main reason for purchasing this MBP was to update my software on my previous MBP 2012 model. I actually far, far prefer the older keyboard. The new keys are unsatisfying to type on and seem to make more noise, which is irritating. The trackpad is also gigantic and needlessly so. I am constantly clicking it unintentionally with my palm. The power cable is no longer magnetic and pushing it in or pulling it out feels 'cheap' and difficult in comparison. Another gripe is with the lack of suitable cables with which to connect my external hard drive (with time machine) to the new laptop. I needed a firewire to USB3 which Apple don't make (or anyone). A solution around this would require two or three adapters! Erm, clunky. In the end I had to do some weird shenanigans to copy over my files - surely the antithesis of how using a Mac should be. The strip thing at the top of the keyboard - quite useless and gimmicky as others have reported. Otherwise the laptop seems to function as you'd expect, but you'd hope so after spending over £2,500. This may be the last Mac I buy - definitely seems to be going downhill...
