When I was looking at one of these 'cloud based' laptops in the shops a stranger said to me, "don't buy it" and gave me some reason I didn't really take notice of. I wish I had!Even though there is a video of how to make space on the laptop, I did this many times and still could not download Chrome or any updates. The only thing it has been useful for was travelling (as I didn't care if it got lost or stolen!) and watching movies, even though web pages tend to take ages to load.Zoom and Facebook video do not work at all. I couldn't even load a video onto Facebook that was only 4 minutes long.I reverted back to using my work laptop (with an i5 processor) for important personal things as it was more reliable but the whole point in buying this was to keep work and personal things separate. After one year, I have decided that I can no longer deal with the frustration of waiting for web pages to load and have bought a new laptop.I would suggest doing your research online before buying and Curry's has a great tool for figuring out what kind of laptop you should buy for your needs.
Charlotte PGreat laptop. Has supported me through my degree with use of word and PowerPoint. Lightweight, not bulky like others. Clean and nice white colour. Battery life is good too. This is my second one and would buy again. Would recommend buying a sleeve for storage as the screen is sensitive hence my second purchase.
CrazycakeNotwithstanding I had been aware of the screen's resolution when researching what I was looking for, I thought that a laptop bearing the HP name would be good enough. It wasn't. Even when turning the brightness to highest, the screen was dull, and when reading material on, say, Facebook, the text was slightly blurred, yet not when reading ordinary documents in (say) Word. It was also quite a strain on the eyes. I guess I have been spoilt by the quality of my Samsung Galaxy S10.5 tablet which has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 and superb presentation. I also found the screen on the HP laptop to be occasionally sluggish in response to touches. That said, setting up was very fast and very efficient, the apps I downloaded also very responsive. I did find a couple of apps which weren't available to this laptop, one being All 4 (for British Channel 4 TV). However, I was able to overcome that by using the Internet version via Chrome, which turned out to be far better anyway. I would have retained the laptop if it were not for the very disappointing screen, and it was mainly for that reason I regrettably returned it.
patrick pontetAbsolute crap 4 months old and useless avoid avoid !has no space to update and has finally packed up after trying to download windows 10 update 1903 save your money a rip off!
Brian.Lovely little laptop! Just what I needid to shop online and store photos, videos etc. I'm constantly on YouTube also and it's great. BUT BE WARNED... you have to install all updates before using this laptop. I didn't but I quickly sorted it. Update it as soon as you have followed all the instructions to set it up. Takes awhile but it's worth it in the end. I cannot fault this laptop otherwise! Colour is amazing and the sound is brilliant for listening to music etc. 3 USB ports which I'm happy about. I am going to use it to watch Netflix and prime video too. I strongly recommend this laptop to anyone! I mean for the price you cannot go wrong! Thank you amazon I'm a very happy streamer ????????
kayleighhave rang hp about this they never sent me any guarantee details the screen as gone white needs repairing ,hp ask me the serial no it is on the back in micro dot need a microscope to see it.because i could not see it even with magnifying glass ,operator cut me off and was not interested, customer care very bad guarantee non existent so have £189 for this and i have too throw away after 6 months as screen is useless, recommend people do not buy this product it is not worth the plastic it is made from ,and hp just dont care
derekcadBought for my 11 year old daughter who has just started grammar school.Great product, has everything needed, light weight and looks expensive, easy set up!
Anxious MummyLightweight, which is very good. Great laptop for the price, you can’t go wrong, and you get office 365 for 12 months, which is really helpful. The white looks great. The keyboard is great. Overall very happy and if your after a cheap laptop then this is the one to buy. You will not be disappointed.
MatthewReally impressed with this. Lovely design (though "aqua blue" isn't quite right - it's "Tampax blue". But I guess that wouldn't be much of a marketing pitch). A stronger blue would make it more attractive.Keyboard is comfortable, trackpad fine - but you are better off with a wireless mouse (I recommend the TeckNet Omni Mini). If you are really looking for a tablet alternative I think there is a 10" version.(Solid state) disk space is very limited so ditch the MS Office 365 and the McAfee AV trial. No problems with Win10 updates so far (an early issue with this machine) but it is worth having a memory stick/card handy.Any problems and you'll find Amazon Tech Support second to none in my experience.
The WilliamI have had this for six weeks and it is fine to use. However the audio out jack no longer works. To cut a long story short, Amazon referred me to HP - would you believe that the product is OUT OF WARRANTY.
Peter GouldAn ideal, cheap, laptop for basic computer needs like e-mail and general browsing. Not the greatest amount of memory but easy to add a memory card to expand the memory. All in all a great little laptop at a very good price.
Colin M. WillmottThere is literally no memory left after you add windows 10. Complete waste of money. Returned it immediately.
Lady LalaVery poor computer. Very slow, doesn’t worth the money
MiriThis struggles with very basic tasks. Opening more than one webpage is difficult for it, but include also a Word document then it will take a very long time to do anything. Occasionally it decides not to even try and closes the application you are attempting to open. I would definitely not buy this again. I would have returned it but missed the returns window. If you're thinking of buying one, stop!
Amazon CustomerUnfortunately this item is so very slow. We bought as a Christmas gift for our 5 year old girls and this item is unusable as It crashes all the time and just really doesn't work. It took all day to put the family (5 user) on the laptop as it kept crashing. It hadn’t been used since early in the year and today we tried again and it crashed! We’ve requested a full refund this product. The first time we’ve ever negatively reviewed a product!
Claire DaviesGreat laptop, sleek and nice. Only problem is there is absolutely no space on it, because of the pre-installed software and the updates. So I would recommend online storage or getting a portable hard drive.
L DrummondPerformance-wise this laptop is reasonably impressive for surfing, emails, word processing etc, my wife does very little else with it.The touchpad is dreadful so if you want to use that frequently you will find it frustrating, definitely use a mouse instead.
Colin WAll the details given of the product is not true. Microsoft 365 is only going to last first few days of using it. you can just open emails and google stuffs. Apart from that this laptop is of no use. Pay more, but don't do the mistake of buying this cheap laptop. You are going regret big time if you do. T
MgI bought this model for my eldest daughter 3 years ago and just bought another for my youngest who is starting secondary school. Great personal laptop, it's not wildly fast but for the money, it's a great PC.
Mitchi normally only write reviews when i'm pissed, but this product deserves some praise, especially at the discount price i've got it for. the many bad reviews are all to do with running windows on a machine with 32gb storage and limited processing power! whoever came up with that idea must be insane! instead, i haven't even touched the installed windows, but have replaced it with Lubuntu 18.04 on the very first run. wiped the laptop completely and ended up with an awesome machine that is a joy to use! remember, it must be 18.04 if you want everything to work out of the box!
pros:
thin, lightweight, large bright screen, small bezzel, really nice design, decent keyboard, track pad feels awkward but gets better with use...
cons:
quality not as good as with previous streams! sd card doesn't click and lock, so no longer ideal for memory expansion! there is no power light on the power button. all the external connectors seem rushed and are difficult to use. speakers often produce horrible high pitched noise, probably due to being made too small to handle the power.
in conclusion:
for the price, i can't complain! once Lubuntu is installed, it really does everything I want it to do, and does it good! the only thing it could handle better are hd videos running at 60fps. up to 720p@60fps or up to 1080p@30fps everything is fine, above that it struggles as i think Lubuntu doesn't make use of on-board gpu. although given the screen resolution there is no need to go above 720! for the smoothest youtube experience i recommend using sm player and sm youtube extension. there, even the contrast, saturation etc. can be adjusted... liberty office is way easier to use than office 365! you don't need to register and it's free! so is most other stuff for linux. Lubuntu is very customisable, looks better than windows. so there's my advice. don't be stuck with windows.
