Does a washing machine really need a smartphone to run?
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Don't really know what to say about this machine. I've had it since mid-October 2017. We were interested in it because of the energy saving more than anything else. What I didn't realise until it was installed is that practically everything is supposed to be done via wifi on your mobile or tablet. Um, thing is I don't have either since I have no need of either. Luckily my husband does have a mobile phone, but connecting was very difficult and in the end we had to get a booster to have a reliable connection.

So barring phone use the machine has just 8 programmes - so much for the 700 programme choices boast. Standard Cotton, Whites, Synthetics and Coloured, Wool, Delicate, Perfect, Rinse, Drain and Spin. Yeah, those are your choices. Temperatures and spin speeds are set - I assume there's some way these can be changed since the dial flashes for these once you set the programme, but I haven't discovered the method yet - assuming it's not mobile only again.

And I'm yet to be convinced that any energy saving is made using the Standard Cotton programme which takes five and a quarter hours to run. Five and a quarter hours - really? Whites are nearly three, Synthetics and Coloured just under two. My old machine managed to do all programmes in two hours or less. Despite having higher spin speeds I find I need to do a Drain and Spin as first time around the clothes aren't dry enough to hang up.

The machine washes okay, can't say it's better than my old machine, but not worse. It's quiet, but does seem to vibrate more - that may be due to the higher spin speeds. Door is a bit of a nuisance since it's either completely open or shut, there's no stop point so you can have the door slightly open when you're not using it.

So would I buy another Candy? Sorry, but no. The mobile app craze is gimmicky and simply jumping on the app bandwagon, I'd prefer to have a larger choice of programmes I can select from the dial. There's an old saying: Just because you can doesn't mean you should. C
