Mid range
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a mid range Hoover in my view, and is an improvement on some of the more basic models, having good quality components and decent suction power. There are some very good design features - particularly the bin emptying design which stands out for me as easy to use. I find this is a nice light vac which I can use all over the house without trouble. The cord is a slight pain as I am used to cordless now. It has held up well to some fairly constant use over recent months.

Affordable and mostly effective
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

+ Bagless is always a bonus, and it’s easy to empty+ Plenty of attachments+ Good suction+ Lightweight for carrying from room to room (and using on the stairs).+ Small form = doesn’t take up too much storage space+ Very affordable- Not as good as our usual Miele for picking up fine bits of cat hair (but that’s nearly 3x the price so kind of expected!) It does pick up the main bits though.

No suction, cheap flimsy plastic head and too short a poll for anyone of average or above average height to use.It was surprisingly less noisy than I was expecting and this is about the only 'pro' to this vacuum. I'd recommend avoiding it at all costs and spending more money on something capable. After all, what is the point of wasting money on something not fit for purpose? It'll only need replacing. Spending more on something better is the much more cost effective. What all these 4/5 tar reviews are on about is beyond me.

A compact device, easy to store. Lightweight so not too troublesome to clean any room of the house. The attachment and movement angle for the main attachment is a bit odd, so I'm cleaning at a bit of a stoop, and can see this causing problems for people with mobility issues.Good suction. Easy to clean. Not a high noise level. Good mid-range vacuum product.

Excellent Product Let Down by Annoying Little Flaw
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Although I really like this hoover I have some mixed feelings about it. On the plus side it is without doubt the most powerful suction of any I’ve used, easily out-performing a similar model of Dyson I have. It’s easy to empty and leaves the carpets looking like new. However, the downside is the small piece of plastic connecting the hose to the machine seems, (on mine, at least), to be exasperatingly flimsy, and easily pops out during use. This leaves the cleaner with no suction until it’s fixed, and fitting the little connecting piece back in place is very fiddly and awkward. Unless I’m extremely careful it pops out two or three times per use. It’s a pity, otherwise this would be an outstanding product. Maybe it’s just mine and I was unlucky.

Much advanced

This cleaner from Hoover - Optimum Bagless - is much advanced on their rudimentary versions: which are poor in
many ways. The whole feel of this cleaner is one of premium level. The quality of the components more than matches one's expectations. The dirt container is easy to clean - and the components do not fall out when opening the latch of the container lid. The hose is fairly robust and the unit if relatively quiet. The only way it loses out, so to speak, is that it is corded; whereas even Dyson now is advertising that they no longer produce corded cleaners. However, that is a matter of preference, which I don't share with the rest of the family: I much prefer corded cleaners - irrespective of their mobility limitations.

Top of the line vacuum cleaner
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

We've been using a cordless vacuum cleaner for a few years now and I always knew it was going to take something special to make us change back to a corded vacuum, and this new hoover might be the one.The build quality is top notch - the body is sturdy and solid and comes apart easily for when you need to empty it. The buttons are well made and feel robust enough to take years of use and are reliable when pressed. The hose is flexible and stretchy, but I have no concerns about it breaking, it's long enough to be convenient, although I have gotten used to an upright cleaner, so dragging the body around was a little tough at first but it's something I got used to again fast. The cabling is long enough to reach all around a room easily and I only needed to change my power socket a few times for the whole house. The connection onto the base unit is solid as well. The suction you get is fantastic - it picked up a lot more in its first sweep than our old cleaner did. We don't have any pets, but I feel like any pet hair would be dealt with well. It comes with an adjustable brush on the head that changes the height above the floor - this is useful when transitioning from hard floor to carpets and worked well enough that both were easy to clean.Emptying and cleaning are easy to accomplish - the bagless system means it's quick to just dump everything into a bin and then pop it back together again - I'm a big fan of this type as it's much better for the environment than throwing away bags every few months. Cleaning out the filters is easy too - they can be hand washed and dried on the side, which means the vacuum should last for a long time before you need to replace them. There is a long warranty if anything does go wrong which I find very reassuring with a more expensive product such as this. It's a very stylish looking vacuum, a friend remarked that it almost looks like a space-ship, with lots of good features and is very well made, so gets a recommendation from me.

Hoover Optimum Power Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I was asked if I’d like to review the Hoover Optimum Power Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, and I said yes.

When this arrived the first thing I did was check everything was included.

The box contains the Hoover Optimum XP81 OP25 Bagless Cylinder Vacuum, a 3 in 1 Dusting Brush, Furniture nozzle, Crevice tool, Carpet nozzle, Pet nozzle tool, an Instruction booklet and a warranty leaflet.

I found the hoover easy to assemble, and easy to store, (mine is under the stairs as there’s plenty of room there).

The hoover is great on both the kitchen, (tiled), and dining room floor, (wood), the suction is great on both surfaces.

When it came to the carpets, I found it better to be on the bedroom carpets then on the living room one, (as the piles longer and thicker).

This hoover has enough wire for a working radius of 8 metres, so that means it can move from one room to another quite easily.

You’ll find this hoover has two removable filters that can be washed and take 24 to 48 hrs to dry properly, (I’ve left mine the latter to make sure they are completely dry).

I was mainly interested in this because we have two Shetland Sheepdogs, (they have long coats) and with it saying it was good for pets I thought I’d see if it was any better than my old hoover. I found it better just as good as my old one when picking fur up on the hard floors, but it didn’t really do a great job on the living room carpet, so I wasn’t too impressed, (my old upright vacuum was a lot better).

This hoover comes with a 10 year guarantee, I was impressed with that, untill I started reading about it. For repairing or service, it has to go back to where they state, if you don’t your guarantee will be useless. The nearest place to us is 20 miles away, which is a real pain especially if you don’t drive. Personally I think this should be mentioned on the product page, as to me it wouldn’t be worth buying this hoover.

Due to the two downsides I’ve stated it my review, (doesn’t pick up fur pro

Solidly built vacuum cleaner with good suction
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I've used plenty of chorded 'cannister' i.e. non-upright vacuum cleaners from a variety of manufacturers and I'll bear these in mind while I write this review, but mostly I'll be comparing it to an upright vaccuum chorded vacuum cleaner using similar motor technology and at a similar price point and yes the manufacturer's name begons with D. I'm one of those people, sorry.Unlike the aforementioned upright this Hoover vacuum cleaner feels reassuringly solidly built and the attachments are very straightforward to use and you don't need to read a bunch of diagrams to understand how it all fits together - unlike the D which feels like it's going to break if you throw it around too much and that sometimes feels like a Chinese puzzle to fit together / pull apart. This Hoover is surprisingly quiet given the amount of suction it produces and it picked up just as much dust and bits during my weekly run around our house as our usual device. However compared to an agile upright the process was hard going - many times I had to pull the container around behind me and although the power chord was plenty long enough it seemed more cumbersome. This must be balanced with the ease with which could get the Hoover suction head into all the nooks and crannies I usually can't get at with the upright (without fannying about with hose and attachments). There's no suction dial to allow for different pile carpets, laminate or tiled floors. Instead there is a choice of two height settings on the suction head and a thumb operated vent on the pipe that lets you throttle to suction somewhat - but I expect is there for emergencies when you accidentally start sucking the edge of a rug or a stray sock into the pipe. I was actually fighting the suction at times leading to the head juddering across the floor rather than having a smooth motion. Bot, that amount of suction is reassuring.Emptying the thing is a piece of cake although like all these bagless vacuum cleaners these days there's a risk that if you're too heavy-handed you'll get the contents

Powerful and bagless with great performance
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

All bits and pieces in the box come individually wrapped including the telescopic pole, hard floor/carpet head, pet hair head and crevice brush. All parts are very easily assembled. The heads themselves do not lock in position at the end of the telescopic pole, but I haven't as of yet found this to be an issue. Once pushed onto the pole, the head stayed tightly attached and didn't come off during use. It's a stylish and modern looking Vacuum cleaner and is not too heavy to pull around during use. The regular carpet/hard floor head performs well enough and is easily maneuverable around objects and under armchairs etc, but I particularly like the pet hair head which has rotating brushes to assist in picking up hair from the carpet. That said, the head itself is on the narrow side so it takes that much longer to cover larger areas.Emptying the Vacuum is easy too. No replacement bags to worry about so cost effective from that point of view. However, I had dropped one star because of the price it is pitched at. The materials used in it's construction don't really justify the price tag.Still - it performs well so far.

A bag-less hoover which is reasonably light-weight, and straight-forward to put together and use. Some useful attachments (including [I think] a pet hair head). Some of the attachments seem to come undone rather too easily. It all packs away into a smallish space, but some of the holders are a bit weak looking (not sure how long they will last).Perfectly good hoover - but not the best we've had.

So, so
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Robust little vacuum cleaner from the Hoover stable; it has a reasonably generous mains cable which is retractable, providing you press the button in the right place. It has the usual telescopic extension tube and two vacuum heads – one large one for floors, both hardwood and carpet, and a smaller one suitably marked with a paw, for dealing with pet hair. There is also a small crevice tool handily stored in a compartment on the back of the hoover.

The various tools are a disappointment as they don't lock into place; they simply push on and pull off the extension tube and therefore are prone to falling off. The attachment for pet hair removal is held at an extremely awkward angle but the most frustrating thing about this machine is that floor head. I don't know about you but I like to use a backward-and-forward motion when vacuuming carpets; the brush on this one, however, sticks to the carpet preventing it from being pushed forward. Maybe this is to do with the suction, but the whole point of a vacuum cleaner is to make housework easier – isn't it?

In its favour, the dirt canister is easy to remove and empty, and the filter, being housed in the back of the machine has easy access. The whole thing is sturdy and quite heavy to carry.

There is a 10 year guarantee which on the face of it sounds great, however, don't let that suck you in (pun intended). In case of repair it must be taken to an authorised dealer where any replacement parts are free, but the cost of labour isn't!

Finally – that price. Ouch!

Firstly, this vacuum cleaner has great suction. A lot of modern day vacuum cleaners just don't have this. The attachments are useful especially the one for pet hair which was just fabulous with the hair left by my pet pug.Like other reviewers I felt attachments were a bit loose and frequently detached themselves from the cleaner..I do like this product but I feel it's just a bit expensive and consequently it loses one star for that..

Good enough
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This bagless hoover is easy to set up and use. The flexible hose does come away from the hard brush section very easily and sometimes when you don’t want it to. The brush attachment jumps on the carpet a bit and works better pulling backwards than pulling forwards but it picks up well. It is light to use, easy to empty and clean the filters. The holder for the tubing on the body of the hoover is a little flimsy. Overall a good hoover but a couple of niggles that stop it being great.

Fair but could be better
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

While I was unpacking this vacuum cleaner I was quite excited because it seemed to be very high quality but when using I had a slightly different impression. It has a reasonable length retractable cord making it possible to reach everywhere fairly easily .There are telescoping extensions and assertional tubes. Rather stranfgely they just push i and turn but dont hold all that securely. It also comes with a large head which has a lever which you depress for hard floor or carpet, There is a smaller head with a paw design on it presumably for animal hair. I admit I dont have animals now so could not truly test it but I did try it on the stairs and did find it was not very good on carpet but much better on hard floors. An upholstery tool was also included . This had a small brush at an angle which you could straighten. I tried this down the side of the chairs but I am afraid the tool did not stay connected to the vacuum. True the space was quite tight but if it was more securely attached as my other vacuum was it would have stayed in position. I will say that he suction was very good, in fact so strong that I had to reduce suction a little to cover carpet. I also found the container very easy to empty. It is not a bad vacuum and with a little more thought it could have been a very good one. It certainly looks good

Strong vacuum, though it may not be the best for homes with lots of pet hair
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I live in a 2 bedroom flat with 2 cats flooring that includes laminate, carpet, and hardwood, so finding a vacuum that excels at everything required is tricky. This review is split into an evaluation of how well the Optimum does in each of my use cases.Hard floor:=======Suction is very good, and the head moves easily over hard flooring. It's maneuverable enough to tackle tight spots, eg: in corners and around table legs. My only issue in this use case is that the head is a little narrow (possibly to aid in focused suction) which means it feels like it takes a little longer to clean large surface areas.Carpets:=====Not bad for carpets. Basically the brush is raised and the device relies on pure suction to remove dirt. For carpets I'd generally prefer a rotary device as well, in order to pick up cat hair. It will get rid of most mess on its own, however, and if you don't have pets, it's probably perfectly adequate. This is where the pet hair attachment can come in handy. This does have a rotary brush, making it brilliant for things like cleaning cushions, sofas etc. unfortunately, again, the attachment is quite small, so expect large areas to take some time.Attachments:=========Aside from the aforementioned pet hair attachment, there's also a narrow 'crevice' attachment which lives in a slot in the vacuum. This offers focused suction. Unfortunately, I've found that it often pops out of the storage slot when I'm moving the vacuum around - possibly some manufacturing tolerance has allowed the slot to be a bit too big for the attachment, so it isn't held as tightly as it should be.Emptying, Maintenance, and Usability:=========================Emptying the canister is easy - it pops out on a button press. The filters are also quite accessible, and there are instructions for cleaning them within the hoover, so you don't need to worry about losing an instruction manual. The cable has a fairly powerful winding mechanism, so you shouldn't have to feed it in bit by bit. The hoover is reasonably light, so tackling stairs or movi
