Probably the worst cylinder cleaner I have ever used. It is cumbersome and heavy and no matter how hard I try I cannot get the attachments to stay on. Just maddening.

Good cleaning

Well, I will never buy a Vax product again. I bought this in 2013 for £129 and although it has performed well up until now I'm really concerned about the ethics of the company.A few weeks ago I unfortunately dropped this cleaner down a couple of stairs as I was vacuuming them and had it balanced on one of the stairs as I made my way down.Since then the cleaner would switch on for a couple of minutes then cut out as if it was overheating, then it would randomly come on for a few seconds and go off again. Very frustrating!! To eliminate all other possibilities I bought a new filter set from the Vax website and did the advanced cleaning procedure suggested in the product instructions. No joy :(So (and this is where my issues begin) I rang the Vax helpline number. I spoke to a very unhelpful member of staff who said all he can suggest is that I buy a new one and offered me a similiar model for £75. On Amazon it's £70!! He said he has never looked inside a Vax machine but he knows there is a motor inside! Duh.. really?I told him I didn't just want to throw it away and replace it as I wish to be a green consumer. He patronizingly told me that all parts would be recycled. (I would prefer to repair rather than recycle) .So I rang a local vacuum repair shop who told me they don't repair Vax's as there are no spare parts available. Chinese made it seems Vax customers are forced into unsustainable consumerism.He recommended me to get a Sebo (German made) or a Nilfisk (Danish) as the lifespan of these are more likely to be the old fashioned thirty years. Having just holidayed in Denmark I like their green credentials so am currently looking at spending £300 on one of their models. A good investment if it lasts longer than three years.However not to be beaten I spent two hours pulling apart the Vax and deducing it is not the switch ( I had an idea that maybe something got dislodged when it fell) You can't fully take it apart as it is sealed at the back and everything inside is sealed as well.
