Vax ECGAV1B1 - Not the everyday vacuum
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

As we all must know, VAX is a well established name in vacuuming and I was looking forward to using this product. It came well packaged with a large sticker giving the warning that it was heavy. It does what it says on the tin as they say. The suction is powerful and efficient both for wet spills and dry vacuuming. In my opinion I would not use this as an everyday/week vacuum as it is heavy, large to store, very noisy (not that I'm too bothered), it has no bag so you have to carry/move the bottom section to empty. If you clear up a spill you have to wait for the filter to dry before doing a dry vacuum otherwise it clogs. Some reviews say they are disappointed that it doesn't shampoo, but in my opinion this is unfair as the product doesn't state this. If you want a vacuum that shampoos, you would select a different model. On the plus side it does have a long lead, has a gauge which prevents further suction of fluids so it doesn't overflow and as it says, is ideal for the DIY enthusiast.I own a Henry and this is also excellent for picking all manner of debris up as well as doing the normal vacuuming that a house needs and is a lot lighter and takes bags. This VAX is in a different league, it is a heavy duty piece of kit and I would recommend for a DIYer or light commercial use (although there is probably a clause in the guarantee saying 'not for commercial use!')5 stars

A powerful and sturdy cleaner
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is one mighty beast of a vacuum cleaner. It arrived in a very large box and looks quite industrial in its appearance and due to its large capacity it is at 7kg also heavy! It is designed for wet and dry use but isn't in itself a carpet cleaner. It was simple to assemble the cleaner comes with a 10meter power cord a long 2.5 meter hose and a variety of attachments designed for different wet and dry uses. We have used it to clean out cars pick up general detritus as well as general household use. I felt it was too powerful on my carpets and rugs but it did lift pet hair easily but for me it wont replace my general household vacuum but I can see it will be my go to for heavy duty and specialist use.

Pros
Powerful suction
Lifts debris and dust so not just for general carpet cleaning
Good for sucking up liquid spills
Large capacity
Sturdy and robust
4 wheels making it easy to move around
When sucking up liquids it has an auto stop system which means you can't overfill it
A long power cord good for cleaning large areas

Cons
It is heavy so not easy to carry around up and down stairs
The suction can be quite strong again making it feel heavy to use (there is a suction release catch on the handle which will drop the level of suction down a little)
To empty this you have to take the whole unit to the bin as there no separate inner that comes out.
When storing this vacuum you need quite a bit of space and its not easy to wind up the power cord.

Overall though given what it is designed to do it is good value for the price and I feel it would stand the test of time. If your looking for something for the heavy duty cleaning tasks around your home then this product is ideal.

Catches don't lock well. Gets clogged easily.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

So this hoover is what I call a site hoover, like a Henry. Basically it can cope with a lot of dust, large lumps and even water.Setting up is easy, simple and fast. The suction is great with just the hose. I found a noticeable difference when using the heads, it is reduced, but still acceptable. I really put it through its paces when we had our builders in doing work. I was really happy with it's suction. The cord is really long and you can wind it onto two hooks on the hoover. The annoying thing with the cord is it doesn't have any hook for the end once it is round round the hooks, so it tends to come unhooked. Also because of how the cord is stowed it doesn't feed well as you move it about.I would have happily given this hoover more stars except it has a major flaw which is the catches which keep it closed are really easy to knock meaning they come open easily. This means the suction reduces at least, but the whole top has come off meaning there was dust going everywhere! This left me so annoyed, just when I thought I was done I had to start over again. This happened regularly. The hose has a bend in it, which I have had items get stuck in. As the bend is at the end of the hose and is fixed its hard to remove blockages.Where the hose joins the body there is a bit inside which stops bit falling back out. This regular gets blocked requiring clearing. Another pain in the bum.It rolls well around a room, but as its heavy and very bulky its difficult to carry up stairs. The suction keeps the same until it is completely full, and the filter inside deals well with dust. I used this hoover when a chimney was removed and the dust from that caused no noticeable difference to the suction. This hooverIn conclusion I would not recommend buying this hoover.

Impressive Vacuum Cleaner ideal for offices or in similar professional environments.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a powerful vacuum cleaner. It reminds me of the type used by cleaners in offices. Its quite large but not too heavy to lift. It glides along on wheels and I have found it very easy to pull along after me.It can be moved around on carpet and floor boards easily. The power chord is very long which impressed me. The cleaner is built out of plastic which is very robust and should last being used regularly. Its simple to take apart which I found impressive as I do not like awkward vacuum cleaners to take apart in order to empty and clean the filter. The cleaner comes with various accessories. A heads for general use which can be used for carpets and flooring and also for getting into nooks and crannies. It has a separate head for use with sucking up fluids. These are all robust and easy to assemble and can be attached to the body of the cleaner for storage.Suction power is good. I found that it was particularly noticeable on carpeted floor.I found it awkward to use on stairs dues to its size and shape but on flat surfaces its very good.I think its more suited as a office/shop/professional vacuum cleaner as its capable of cleaning up serious mess whether its wet or dry.

Best for the house renovator than housekeeper
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

It's a bit of a mixed bag. It feels like it was intended for your average builder rather than household use. It's a bit big (I think I was imagining something a bit more like a "Henry") and it's a bit noisy and the lead it a bit of a pain..It's a bit difficult to move around and also a bit useless for stairs (but again I suspect it was not intended as a domestic vacuum cleaner). However it is very good at the task it was intended for and it picks up everything.

Vax, the best
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

I have several very light carpets in the house. The lure of a vax cleaner was just too great. My diabolical, shaming carpets glaring at me every day. Begging me to clean them.Well, this didn't disappoint. Very easy to use, though quite heavy, it lifts the pile on the carpet while cleaning, it retrieves water from the carpet as it's cleaning. The attachments allow for cleaning the sofas too. This is very appealing since my children treat the sofa almost as badly as the carpet!Definitely a must have! Highly recommended

An extremely powerful vacuum cleaner than will suck up pretty much anything
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This VAX ECGAV1B1 isn’t a carpet cleaner. It’s a very powerful vacuum cleaner that’s designed to suck up pretty much everything - including sludge and water. When I first saw the listing on Amazon, I thought that’s got to be brilliant to clean up after my DIY projects - and I was absolutely right. I haven’t actually found anything that this product struggles with - and to be honest I have tried. The first time I used it was to tidy up outside after I’d been replacing some fence panels and posts - a bit of sawdust was no problem. So whilst I had it out, I used it to clean out the barbecue (obviously it was cool first) and the chiminea too. No problem at all. It even sucked up the old lumps of charcoal. I reckon if you had an open fire or a wood burning stove, this VAX would be brilliant. Then I used it to vacuum up around the garden tables and chairs. It sucked up all manner of dried grass, leaves and sand from the kids play area. Then I cleaned up around the rabbit hutches - hay, rabbit cereal and droppings. Big black cobwebs in the corner of the garage disappeared in seconds. Nothing was too much trouble for this VAX. The only thing you need to look out for is larger items that can get stuck in the tube, or sharp objects which might damage the unit. There’s even a blower function, so I used it as a half decent leaf blower too. Arguably it might not be suited to everyone’s idea of a home vacuum cleaner, but as a secondary cleaner for larger jobs it’s perfect. OK so it’s not terribly refined - banging out the filter is a messy job and you have to carry the whole base section to the bin to empty it. It’s quite a big unit and it’s noisy too, but I think it’s absolutely brilliant. For me it’s lasting appeal is in its no-nonsense practicality It’ll suck up pretty much any mess, without loss off power.

very effective vacuum
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

We're really pleased with it. This is the most powerful vacuum we've had, and often we have to release the vacuum a bit (with a little catch on the handle) to stop it lifting up mats and the suchlike. It is light, and the casters run freely so its really easy to move around. Another good feature is the 10m power cable which means you don't need to search around for an extension. I was a bit concerned that one of the people who need to use it has a dodgy shoulder, but they didn't have a problem with it and in fact rated it the best they have used. When unpacking it I had a moment of panic because I couldn't find the attachments... however they were packed inside the cunningly named 'tool storage' compartment!

For the DIYer and hobbiest it's the business, but not as your main hoover
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Vax make good vacuum cleaners generally, and this is basically their answer to a Henry, and they've done it well. Very little assembly out of the box is a definite point in favour. There are different heads to use for wet and for dry, all of which store neatly on the back of the unit and a good long lead with a decent coil holder built on. On hard floors it's absolutely magic, getting into edges and really shifting even fine dirt. It makes fast work of wet clean up too, with both muck and water fleeing up the tube. Clean up of the unit afterwards is remarkably pain free too. It falls down hard on one point though; it has such powerful suction that I can't move it over my room sized rugs. It is simply impossible to use this as a normal vacuum cleaner on carpet. That's a shame because in every other aspect this works perfectly, but that drawback turns it into a specialist tool. If you need a wet/dry vacuum cleaner for any reason, this is worth a look. If you need a main vacuum cleaner for the house, look again.

The limited wet use means it's not as good as it sounds
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

This is a good solid wet and dry vacuum cleaner which does what it sets out to do, but has a few flaws in the process. The first thing you notice about the Vax ECGAV1B1 (other than it's name, which should. I think, be shorted to just Gav*) is that it's heavy. Even the box has a warning on it. This could well be an issue for lugging the thing around the house, though if you're into bodybuilding then maybe it's a bonus. The weight is, in part, due to the large capacity and the fact that this can deal with water and other liquid spills, too.The unit comes in parts but is easily put together and the main hose can be lengthened by using different parts or all of the segments, useful for hoovering parts of the house that require a longer reach, though it would have been good to make it extendable like some other vacuum cleaners. There is a filter in the top and a large capacity base for dirt and water.Obviously, all of this would be useless if it didn't actually do its job. We tested this on several carpets and rugs with varying degrees of success. The rugs cleaned up well, even those with deep stains in, but the long haired carpet fared less well but was older, so it might not be a fair test. Unfortunately, if doesn't do a proper wet clean with shampoo, unlike our other cleaner, so is of limited use with more ground in stains. For general household cleaning, the Vax's weight will be an issue in 2 storey houses and it's a large thing to find a storage place for, but if you do have spills or stains that normal vacuum cleaners can't pick up it could be of more use. I'd personally go for a good cleaner which can do a proper wet clean if needed as the added weight is at least justified then.* Look, there's a hoover called Henry, so I don't think Gav is too far fetched and it sounds friendly.
