We call ours Adolph
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

We call him Little Adolph as we bought him on the cheap as a probably end of line item. He also came equipped with a Europe only charger and an instruction book containing pretty much every language except English., and strangely the first page was in German :-) Consequently he spent his first night sitting on our toilet charging up from a bathroom shaver socket whilst we tried to figure out how he worked. His evil looking little red eyes were not a pretty sight if you needed the loo at 4am

Having let him loose in a few rooms, here's the good and bad bits

Good:
He sucks - but in a good way. The vacuum is surprisingly powerful and his brushes can swallow up next door's cat if you aren't careful
Not as loud as expected. Yes he does make a noise but only gets annoying or irritating after an hour or so
Simple to operate - just two buttons to press, no logging in to him via a phone or internet
He isn't suicidal and can spot where steps are rather than launching lemming like over an edge

Bad:
He isn't very smart and always tries to follow a pre-programmed pattern
Has a tendency to like dark inaccessible corners for no reason
Can't do thick rugs and tends to get stuck on them, cant' complain as very few robot vacs can
He utterly hates coffee tables and for some reason our Adolph wants to spend most of his time headbutting them
Tends to prefer large open rooms, especially wooden floors

Overall:
Not that bad but not perfect. As a low to mid range introduction to robot vacs he isn't bad and watching him get stuck ( which happens a lot) can be quite entertaining. You also still have to follow up with a human and proper vacuum cleaner to pick up the bits he's missed. Really hope Vileda keep this up as the vacuum components and engineering are top notch. However if you're thinking of buying one, save some money by going for a newer or better model

One of my best helpers around the house.
Reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

Vileda vacuum is simply one of my best helpers around the house. Easy to operate, good suction power used on the wooden floor - a must for anyone disliking brushing, dusting but enjoying walking bare feet on the clean floor.Good value for money, too.

Not quite Star Wars - but entertaining

The VR100 comes from a reputable German designer and could prove to be a boon to many households. It is important, however, to recognise that you are not buying an R2D2 here: it will never replace a conventional vacuum cleaner piloted by an intelligent human. Instead, it can be very handy for keeping down the accumulation of dust in between 'deep cleans' that you organise yourself.
After charging for about four hours, the VR100 will run for about an hour. Two cleaning programs are selectable, a 20-minute one "for small rooms" and a 60-minute option "for larger rooms". After every hour (based on a little experience), the machine has to be emptied of sweepings and cleaned underneath. It is important at this point to clean the small windows that detect sharp drops: mine made several lemming-like leaps off the top stair before I found that these sensors were obscured by dust.
The Robot is NOT intelligent in the way it works: it recognises "no, not that direction" (including, with luck, the staircase) and has some logic programmed into it to get away from obstructions. Despite its lack of ability to assess the shape of a room, It proved quite adept at getting into and out of small gaps, such as between chair legs. Conversely, having got itself wedged under a low-slung piece of furniture, it did not have the oomph to drag itself back out: the blanket box had to be raised instead.
Its method of operation is partly carpet sweeper and partly pure suction, through a separate nozzle. It does a fair job of cleaning where it can get to but this is where potential buyers must take care: the VR100 will not work effectively on carpets with a soft pile. If you have loop pile, cord or a stiff twist pile you may be alright. Its ideal hunting ground is vinyl, laminate, tiles or bare wood.
'Shorty', as I call him, also has issues with climbing on to rugs, over thresholds, cables and so forth. The upshot of these limitations is that I spend a good deal of time moving things out of his path (and putting them back later) and
