We were fed up with toasters that do not brown evenly so assumed that buying an expensive toaster would sort this - how wrong we were!
Mrs Jane L WilsonDo not buy a Dualit toaster. See the result. Absolutly not worth the money. Nice statussymbol, but crappy toaster, look at the picture. Do not buy! Save your £$€
Amazon CustomerI bought this toaster at the end of January 2018. Since the beginning October 2018 the switch has intermittently been sticking, burning the toast.(i.e after only 8 months) It is now sticking every time rendering the toaster useless. Looking on their website they say if the switch is sticking (so they know this is a problem) you need to buy a replacement switch and have it fitted by a qualified electrician! I’m really disappointed that that I have spent £146 on a toaster that has lasted only a few months. I really want to support British brands though I expect them to be reliable. My replacement will be another brand with a warranty.
NicolaToast does not fit properly as bread must have been smaller when they designed this in 1945.It does not toast perfectly....one side was browning more than the other and it takes forever to toast. Not worth the hype nor the money
The DonAfter almost exactly a year of admittedly good toasting the timer started failing to the on position. Several instances of cremated and even flaming toast later decided to return for a refund before burning the house down.
Amazon CustomerWorked once and then blew the fuses. Not the first time we've had a problem with dualit toasters but thought we would give them another chance.Waste of time sent back for refund.
john westOn my third one now, first one stopped working after two weeks second one arrived and didn’t work. Thanks to Amazon replacing them with no fuss the third one is still working, fingers crossed.
Amazon CustomerThis is a premium product, so needs to be judged as such. Sadly although it could easily be the best toaster out there, it really isn't.Things I like about it (cos you have to say the nice things first right ?)1) It doesn't pop up when done so the toast stays warm.2) The general appearance3) The elements seem to last a reasonable time.Things that really drives me nuts about it1) It makes bad toast. Basically the reason is that it is quite hot so by the time the outside is cooked, the inside is only warm. An extra control to alter the temperature would solve this, allowing you to cook different thicknesses of toast.2) The clockwork timer is appallingly cheap and rubbish. The last "minute" is more like 30 seconds.3) The end panels are not polished steel like the rest. Consequently, although it looks uniformly shiny when you buy it, about a year later the end panels are dull and hard to buff without scratching.4) The crumb catcher is flimsy and they haven't even bothered to weld the edges.
David MilneWell this is the second dualit toaster I've had which has malfunctioned within the warranty period - timer again!! There must be a product fault as it's always the same thing!! Isn't it about time that dualit looked at this. I won't purchase another dualit toaster.
LeeThis was a replacement through Amazon, great service, but had the same fault as original...the right hand side heating element did not work on first use so only one side was toasted. Poor quality control from a beautiful looking but expensive brand. I expected more. Had my first one for 25 years but the timer and elements are different design.Amazon accepted both back and I shall reluctantly change brands now.
Anthony HillWell a few week on from my last review not likeing this much, if you don't look out the bread is under or over done depending on thickness on what is toasting, i would not buy this again if broke so could be with us for sometime!
Mr. Dgt WhiddenWas really looking forward to receiving my Dualit toaster after hearing a report on Radio 4's 'You and Yours' programme. It told of their pride in the product, how each toaster is built by hand and made to last long enough to leave to your children. Our present toaster had just about given up completely so we were in the market for a new and hopefully better one. It arrived today and I was very disappointed to find that the lever that is supposed to lower the bread into the toaster would hardly move because the two platforms that the bread sits on were splayed out so that they fouled the vertical element guards. On top of that, two of the wire lugs that fix the bottom of the element guards were not located in their corresponding holes in the frame so that the bottom of the guards pinched in towards each other . These are supposed to be hand-built, but this one looked like it had been thrown together in as short a time as possible by someone called 'Michael'!Hopefully I will be so pleased with the replacement that I will me moved to write a more favourable review on the Dualit toaster in the future!
Lindsay Sampford'Which' has just given the four slot version of this toaster a Don't Buy award, and thank goodness someone is acknowledging that these toasters are a complete waste of money. I have no idea why people are giving it five stars, and why Dualit are somehow acknowledged as being the best. It's one of the worst I've ever had. I've had it a few years now. It never toasts evenly. I'm frequently given a choice between burnt or not toasted enough with nothing in between. As it has a dial that you have to turn to wherever you think it's always a bit of a random guess, and once the toaster's been used for the first two slices, subsequent toastings need less of a turn, otherwise you burn the toast. Trying to toast large slices, or buns, bagels etc is a nightmare (apparently there's a special cage for buns and bagels but they very kindly don't give it to you when you buy it). And the worst thing of all is that the toast doesn't retain its heat - it cools down very quickly after you remove it.I really suggest you ignore the five star reviews and save yourself some cash.
RosieWorked ok for 1st month then sometimes only toasted 1 side now burning toast I purchased this because dualite.have a good reputation very disappointed
caroline hardakerGreat toaster.. only, - one of the four legs was shorter than the other three, so it wobbled. And quite a lot shorter too. At first I thought maybe it was an adjustable leg, but on closer scrutiny found it wasn't. I could have called for it to be collected and returned for a toaster that wasn't wobbly, instead I went off and bought four leg stops plus screws to fit from a hardware store. Not a great experience!GDPS
GDP ScholtzI have had mine 2 months. For the price this is not worth the money. We previously had a cheap Russell Hobbs and wanted something better with a manual mechanism to lower and raise the toast tray. One of the heating elements is not working as efficiently as the other 3 (2 toast slot) so the toast comes out undercooked on one side. Very disappointed.
ASBought the toaster for my wife as she always wanted a Dualit Because they look nice.( Big mistake) . Most sized don't fit in the toaster, it is so irregular as it either burns the toast or doesn't toast it. I use the grill now , believe me better results. Toaster is just for show not even plugged in .
john wctaylorDoesn't toast both sides even. As an expensive toaster would expect alot more. I have had a previous dualit and had no problem so must be newer model
Teresa O'Donovanslots are not very wide, not worth the £120 i paid for this item,a £15 breville toaster has wider slots than this, not as good as its made out to be.you can not make a toasty sandwich in it ..but the elements are better than most toasters...
sidney blowerThe Classic Vario AWS toaster is a design icon, first designed in 1947 and hand-built in England, as identified by the individual assembler's mark on the base plate. This toaster has innovative features, like the manually operated ejector level, which means that rather than 'popping' the toast up, it keeps the bread warm until you eject it by pressing a lever. It is versatile with extra-wide slots (28 mm) that will accommodate larger items, eg: thick slices or bagels. All Vario toasters also fit the optional sandwich cage for toasted sandwiches and warming rack for heating buns and croissants. Environmentally friendly, Vario toasters are fully repairable and have replaceable parts for a toaster that will last a lifetime. Exclusive to Dualit, ProHeat elements have a protective armour plated layer covering the filament making them virtually unbreakable.
